I fly a north wing solairus. Soaring trike. Your making those electrics lookin good.
@tomfrey12583 жыл бұрын
If you want an electric Drive, just go for it! You can adapt the Geiger Drive on just about any Trike :)

Hi it is an Aeros combat Topless with struts. Tremendous Handling. The Geiger System is very reliable and has lots of safety features.

With the fairing the trike has a lower power consumtion of about 10-15 percent and I have warm feet 😊

Now you need to figure how to turn that motor into a generator when thermaling or just gliding. Probably too much drag though.

Hey Tom. Thanks for posting another video of your Aeros Ant. How much of a difference does the set of fairings that you have added help with it's performance? Is it really noticeable? Mike

Gday mate , just bought the ant last week was wondering where you got the fairing from , looks sweet 😎👍🇦🇺
@tomfrey12584 жыл бұрын
Hi, we made this fairing ourselves made by Klenhart design, but you can buy a cute fairing from Aeros see my other video the new HPD20
@tomfrey12584 жыл бұрын
Did you buy electric?
@justhangini67064 жыл бұрын
No it has the Corsair 25 hp with fox 16 t . I plan on making an electric self launching unit for my hang glider . I have lots of 6 to 10 cell rc planes , is it the same type of set up in your ant? Eg motor , esc , and battery but scaled up.

congratulations for thermal flight do you fold the rear wheel sometimes?

+Tom Frey Can you earn altitude without power using slope rising wind etc?
@garrykennedy54846 жыл бұрын
You can if the thermals are strong enough. Ridge lift or slope lift is possible also.

+Garry Kennedy Thank you for the response. Around 45 years ago, an American guy told me about thermal bubble. I heard from other guy that a veteran pilot of a glider can fly for 3 days. 3 days were limit because the pilot had to sleep(^^;). An electric trike is very easy for restarting engine(electric motor). Therefore a veteran pilot can fly for a very long distance, I suppose so.

Cloud suck can be very bad. There was a guy that was gliding and got sucked up into the clouds and was up there for a very long time. I forget how long, but it was several days. He had frozen solid like a popsicle and landed in a farmers field. The farmer saw him land and said it looked like a good landing but the pilot wasn't moving, so he went out to him and found him sitting there totally frozen solid. Amazing!

+Garry Kennedy Thanks for you advice. It's a very terrible story. I thought there were many troubles which I could not imagine. Now many air trikes don't have heaters but if there is a heater air trikes will be much funny.

The second problem is oxygen. Over 12000 feet you need to bring some with you.

Request 2 hours flight time: I am testing with 3 Batteries now...1.5 hours engine time +whatever you get on thermals :)
@gliderrider5 жыл бұрын
That is such a sweet setup! How is it holding up?

Can you make XC flights purely on thermals or is it to difficult with this "machine"?
@jimdavidson89557 жыл бұрын
That was a huge thermal! Who makes that fairing? Is it also from Aeros?

Good afternoon Tom. I need to know what power and voltage of your engine? And what type of batteries? Thanks.

The Motor is a Geiger HPD 16, Peak Power 18 KW, climbs with me 3,5 m/s and outclimbs the 35 HP Engine of my Friend. The Batteries are 2 Lion Battery Packs 68 AH each with a sophisticated and safe Battery Management System. For more specs see www.geigerengineering.de/avionik-elektroantriebssystem/produkte/

Is the 55kph the limit of the motor or the wing - what is the max trim speed of wing? Cheers, Patrick

Beathful images!!
@tomfrey12584 жыл бұрын
No, its is not the same setup like RC Planes. The Drive Unit HPD16 or HPD 20 is a powerful brushless engine with direct drive, RPM 2200 or 2500 so very high efficiency with a direct drive. It also has a BMS Battery Management System which communicates between Controller, Batteries and electric Motor. So a very high degree of safety. Just see www.geigerengineering.de/avionik/downloads
