I really enjoyed your reaction with Rocko- thanks! Voice Play is a group from Orlando Florida and their members and frequently featured guests have all worked as performers for Universal and/or Disney theme parks. They work without a record label or contract by choice to have complete control of their creative expression and manage the demands of touring vs family life. They do all of their own production from their studio, PattyCake Productions, located in the Oviedo mall in Oviedo Florida. They are more theatrical than other two top acapella groups, Pentatonix and Home Free, and are often called the theater kids of acapella music. They really do rock covers so well as legendary band, 'Chicago', liked their cover of "Nothing Else Matters" so much that they reached out to them and Voice Play sang two concerts with 'Chicago' back in November. I think you both would love Voice Play's covers of "Carry On My Wayward Son", "In The Air Tonight" and "Whisky In The Jar".

They are from Orlando, Florida - been going since late 1990's. They can tackle any genre. They are not backed by a label (like Pentatonix) by choice to follow their own creative direction. So they do most of what you hear and see themselves. The arrangement is amazing - they always do their own spin but pay huge respects to the original. More VP would be absolutely wonderful 🥰. Very lovely reaction. 🌹🕊

One note for you on this song. Although Eli and the feature Omar are both high tenors, the highest part (near the end) was sung by Cesar, who is billed as a baritone. All of the members and a lot of their featured performers have very large ranges. (Geoff, bass, and Layne, the beatboxer, are about 5 octaves each.) Voiceplay is based in the Orlando, FL area. They often say that they won’t cover a song if they don’t think they can add value to it. I know you’ve reacted to Nothing Else Matters, but I’d love to see Mr. Reedy’s reaction.
@lkayh11 ай бұрын
Someone will mention this if they haven’t already. This is part of a trilogy, beginning with Warriors by Imagine Dragons, and ending (so far) with Seven Nation Army. I’m not sure the story is all that clear but the theme is the same-post-apocalyptic, struggle to survive kind of theme. The cast changes become a bit more poignant with that in mind. Steven Tyler’s wild scream can’t be duplicated, but I love the fact that it was Voiceplay’s baritone who actually hit that note. We all expected Eli to do it because he’s their rock tenor, but he took low harmonies, and the featured guest (Omar) ceded that part to Cesar. I’m glad you like Voiceplay, and I loved this reaction!
@joeysmith508611 ай бұрын
I've always hated this song being covered because of that unduplicatable scream too. Just something about Tyler's voice when he did that, that makes it so good. But this is also my favorite cover of Dream On, for so many reasons including them actually hitting the note.

Loved Rocko's reaction! It's always fun seeing people being introduced to VoicePlay, especially when they have the context to see how impressive a group they are. VoicePlay are firmly of the opinion that if they don't have anything to new to bring to a cover, they won't do it. No point if you're not going to change things and put your stamp on it- might as well listen to the original. So their covers will always give you something you've never heard before, and honestly? For me, that has been the absolute redemption of some songs I didn't like at all. VoicePlay always put songs in a new perspective, while still maintaining what made the song so intrinsically recognisable.

They were recently invited by the iconic band Chicago to sing with them on one of their anniversary tour concerts. Their “Metallicapella” cover (Nothing Else Matters) caught their attention. If he has toured with Kansas and Journey, may I recommend their cover of Carry On Wayward Son. It is older, and Cesar (with all the hair) wasn’t with them. The baritone at that time was J None. Omar (in the center ) was their guest artist in that as well. It is one I go back to over and over. They also did a cover of Don’t Stop Believing. My favorite (there are a few other recordings of them live, but with cell phones😕) is the one that they did at Camp Acapella with more than 100 students joining them. Even if I didn’t like the song I would still love that video because of the joy that’s so obvious in sharing their passion. It features the original lineup when they rebranded as VoicePlay so was done prior to 2017. By the way they are located in Orlando Florida, and all have performed at Disney and/or Universal Studios so dressing up is nothing new to them. This was pretty basic for them. The bass, bald tenor and beatboxer are in their early 40’s and Omar and Cesar In their 30’s. Geoff (bass) and Layne (beatboxer) have known one another since middle school. They cover a huge variety of genres and take risks the others may not. They are completely self produced with no support other than from their patrons. The bass singer and the beat boxer historically have done about 95% of the arrangements. Whoever does the arrangement is responsible for the entire production: arrangement, video direction and editing, venue and costumes and even make up if necessary as well as the initial sound edits. It is sent to Ed Boyer for the final mix who also mixes for all the large a cappella groups including PTX and Home Free. The bald rock tenor is their tech wizard and has been handling the lighting and digital backgrounds if necessary and has arranged two on his own as well as co-arranging on a few of them. He will also be doing more of the arrangements in the future. His recent arrangement of Creep is heart wrenching. I will be keeping an eye on your channel to see if you cover more of them as well as the bass singer’s solo channel. He recently did a haunting cover of Wicked Game.

Excellent reaction! I would love to hear or see Steven Tyler or any of Aerosmith to see this and give their opinion! That would be epic! I concur with another comment you should react to any of these. "Carry on my Wayward Son" by Kansas, "Creep" by Radiohead, and lastly "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica (with a special twist) In the acapella world, VoicePlay are considered the theater kids. They do full makeup and sets almost always. There are 3 top tier acapella groups. Pentatonix who came first and do mostly Pop, but can do all genres, and also have a ton of Christmas music. They also sing their originals, do covers and have a female voice in their core singers, Next is Home Free which are generally the country genre group, but they do all with incredible arrangements and singers, and then VoicePlay, that I mentioned above. I really enjoyed this! Thank you.

@@lorriredmon8212 You can find one of their first albums (Time Machine) under the old group name. At the time it was just four members: Geoff , Layne , Earl and a young man named James. I mention it mostly because they covered The Lion Sleeps Tonight in that one as well. I could not imagine them doing it without Earl, and was astonished to find out that J, who has recently been reassigned as a bass singer for the Navy m, took the lead and got pretty high up there! I believe it was released in 1997 when they were just out of high school. It has a lot of songs that I grew up with and I’m really old. So I love to listen to that album even though technically they’ve expanded like crazy, that talent was showing even back then.

I'm another of the Mysterious People In Black Clothing (Thanks to NPH at the Tony awards, best nickname ever). Mostly worked tech at various houses and for a variety of companies, did a bit of roadie work working for a rental house. Lots of festivals, Cons and the like. I liked Rocko a lot, you both remind me of the folk I've worked with over the years. I was mostly curious if he was at the Aerosmith show back in, like '87 or '88 at the Concord Pavilion where G'n'R was opening, and Axl's mic went on the fritz, he freaked out and stormed off stage, the band just kept playing, Slash stepped to the mic and kinda gave a half apology, like "What the fuck can we do?", Then Axl came back on stage, subdued, thanked Aerosmith of the loan of a mic, and they finished the set. I knew another roadie who worked at the pavilion who dished that Steven Tyler read him the riot act before booting him back on stage with a good mic.

Orlando - they've been doing this for 25 yrs. They have all worked the theme parks (Disney, Universal) and learned that the audience really likes the theatrics. Some of the ones you might enjoy are VP's Carry On Wayward Son (Kansas), Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), In My Room (Beach Boys), Queen in 5 Minutes, Creep (RadioHead), Don't Stop Believin' (Journey, where they went to an a capella camp for kids and played with them, had them sing (it's a great way to see VP), the post-apocalyptic trilogy - Warriors (Imagine Dragons), Dream On, Seven Nation Army (White Stripes), Vikings - My Mother Told Me (from a thousand yrs ago) and Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound), video games - Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Halo theme, Sleeping in the Cold Below (Warframe). Recently Geoff has done some of his solos, Sounds of Silence (S & G), Wicked Games (Chris Isaak). Last year Chicago got wind of VoicePlay's Nothing Else Matters and invited them to be onstage doing some of their songs for their Chicago and Friends in mid Nov 17-18. When they came on stage, one of Chicago's players wanted to know where the drums were, they'd help set it up - Eli pointed at Layne for the drums.

I loved your guest and Reaction.also. He also has quite the resume. Have you heard of postmodern jukebox? They are a music collective put together by the Pianist Scott Bradlee. The musicians and singers change to fit The song being performed. Scott does all the arranging. He takes "modern day" songs and He re-arranges them in Styles of music From the past. My absolute favorite cover is postmodern jukebox featuring Morgan James Covering dream on. It is by far my most favorite cover of any song I have ever heard. I'm working my way through their catalog but I know That they covered centuries by fall out boy. There is a Reactor Whose channel is called mortius. He did a reaction/Analysis with Marwan Ayman. They also do all their own arranging. Marvin did the arranging for centuriesPeriodic. I found it very interesting About how he arrange it and The little subtleties that he put in.
