​@@grumpywilliams I mean, I agree it changes the meaning of the song. Maybe as high art the original is better, but I just find this more fun to listen to. The lyrical percussion is just more satisfying and the melodical backing track adds some auditory interest. Personally I tend to prefer rapping which goes over a melody, though I realize it can distract from the lyrics which is why most rap songs which are intending to be a message have very simple melodies, derivative melodies, or none at all. Gangster's Paradise is probably the most notable exception I can think of, being on the more complex side of original rap melodies and having a strong message but even so it's fairly simple if you compare it to say, (just to pick a random example from one of my playlists) She Loves You by the Beatles. Still though, I tend to prefer mashups which put rapping over other songs or rap songs which sample original melodies (while still providing enough changes to be seen as a distinct product). For example this is a perfect example of what I like in a mashup, and U Can't Touch This by MC Hammer is an example of the second possibility, sampling Superfreak while changing the instrumentation and isolating various elements.
