13:21 No wonder!! I've always wonder how EXO does it! When I listen to EXO, what I've always noticed is how their raps and verses always fit together like a glove. Even though the rhythm of the raps and verses are completely different they still always sound so rhythmic and don't disturb the flow and vibe of the song when either transitions into the other OMG THANK YOU FOR BREAKING IT DOWN!! Baekhyun grew up with music. He started to learn piano when he was young and dreamed to become a singer when he was in 4th grade. He and his friends had a band during school days and he was a very popular guy. He was cast by SM when he was practising for his college entrance exams in front of the college. He has been always a good vocalist. Over the years he improved a lot. When he debuted as a soloist he started his vocal lessons again and changed his singing styles. What now we are seeing is the fruits of the hard work he put in the past two years. He literally sings circles around everyone. He legit sang a song in the original female key. He is that crazy good. He is an avid belter, but he is all about healthy vocalization which I admire a lot. Baekhyun can sing any genre. Ballads, R&B, Jazz and Rock. Anything. He perfectly blends with any vocalist. I don't know if you have listened to All I Got, but that's a song you should definitely check. He has a really amazing lower register too. Check these two collabs he did especially. I've been waiting for this reaction! It's already 4am here. I can sleep after this. What this song does to me is that it seems to bring out the dormant sense of humanity and camaraderie that I've been losing since the pandemic started. It makes me regain my trust in people. I find the pairs of voices and harmonies (it's often Baekhyun doing the high harmony here and on many of the tracks) they use in this song to be completely haunting and beautiful. This song just stabbed me in the heart from the moment I heard it, I actually felt my chest clench. As you continue to look at songs I'd love to hear your thoughts on why a song is chosen to be a title track, what about its structure makes it a good single as opposed to the songs that are chosen as b-sides. I love well-structured albums that take you on a total journey (probably showing my old age here hahahah). I know that title tracks have a certain purpose and that is very intentional. You've looked at a lot of title tracks (and there are so many amazing ones to go) but I almost always prefer the bsides when it comes to what I go back to and listen to again and again... And this album is no exception; I have listened to Runaway more times than I can count

I see a lot of people here are recommending bside songs from EXO’s album - which are all bop btw. But personally I think you should react to all their title songs first just so you can understand more about EXO’s music journey throughout 10 years of their career. And I would love to see you react to Kokobop. Its one of their biggest hit song! It remains the most streamed song (over 700M times) on one of the biggest chart in Korea. And the song also started a whole reggae trend back in Kpop 2017. So yea hope you’ll react to it soon!!

Its not just about the structure but also about the different sound materials and techniques in their music. Why should we jump right to the bsides just bc we know “the structure?” Theres a reason the tiltle songs are the title songs and I want to learn more about that - despite knowing the structure.

I entered here for two reasons; 1. EXO is my ultimate Kpop group and 2. Runway is my fave song of the latest album. But this, man! I was not prepared for what I saw. I love how you break down the song, how you have payed so much attention to my boys and their songs and how much I've learnt from your job explaining. I'm actually curious about that one too cause it is one of my fav songs off DMUMT album but i heard some people thought it was terribly produced. So I'm interested in what Adam has to say about it! Also Gimme Gimme by NCT 127 and Don't Call Me and Atlantis by SHINee. I watched some other producer's reaction to these and i want to hear what another producer has to say about it because there is no way SM made these decisions that he disliked unintentionally.

I think the reason why Kpop groups have such passionate fans is because they really interact with their fans. People initially become fans because of their talent and great music, but they do more than just release music. They have behind the scene videos, they go on variety shows or they have variety shows specifically for them, they are always active on social media, and their merchandise is amazing! Have you even seen a kpop album? Its not like in the west where it is just a CD. A Kpop album has a photobook, the cd, photocards (which are concidered collectables and are highly valued), posters, and sometimes stickers! It is really high quality. There are also lightsticks for each group. Fans buy these and bring them to concerts to wave around. The lights can sync with bluetooth so the whole audience create like a light show. It is really a sight to see! But because they show literally everything, fans get so emotionally attached to them because we get to see them grow as artists and as people. Therefore we don't see them just as artists, but as family too. There are talented Western artists with many fans. For example, I love Sam Smith and Hozier, but I don't feel the same connection with them as I do with kpop groups because they don't market and interact the way that kpop does.

Kpop feeds their audience. You are never hungry. The West once had respect for their fans but that changed with the cost record labels put on the artist. It limited what they could produce plus technology. The guide Kpop follows the west once had but in different formats... the addition of their personal lives is a bonus. Western Record labels put money before the artistry and killed the industry.

No, it's not bec of those childish things that you mentioned. Because some of us, new fans of EXO didn't know EXO exist before nor did we experience watching their concert or videos. Others discovered them bec of this lock down, binge-watching kdramas, others out of curiousity of Kpop bec of this popular boyband now, which led us to discover other groups as well and EXO. Although we heard kpop song before bec of 'Nobody' and 'Gangnam style', most were really not into kpop, until we discovered EXO, and started watching their videos and fell in love with their talents. If you would notice, new fans of EXO are more on a matured side or older. We got hooked bec of their amazing vocals, musical complexity, originality and timeless artistic output. We are not the type of people who appreciates music just bec it's a trend or it has the most views in youtube.

EXO was on haitus for almost 2 years, many stan them for their talents and although being popular, they remain respectful and down to earth. They are truly loved. Despite of no promotion, they sell like hotcake. Thats exo and exol together!

@@dubaduwariwari4717 not sure if u are referring to what I said or in general? but I never said anything downgrade Baekhyun nor would I ever cause he’s my bias and that was what I was referring to was that it’s not necessary to feel the need to uplift ur bias by putting another member down just because they happen to get praise cause I also saw the comments saying how he was “SM favorite” and the other that felt the need to undermine his abilities to elevate another but I also don’t think it’s ok to drag any member just cause u are upset because some fool on KZbin made a shady unnecessary comment cause I promise If they wrote it wether they deleted or rephrased they meant what they said and only did so cause they got negative feedback and since it’s become common place by some “exols” to say that certain members are favored and that somehow justifies people saying shady stuff and tbh it’s getting old and has been left unchecked by others for to long but it’s possible all around to defend ur bias whoever that may be without dragging another

Aside from the fact that i love this song with all my heart, i loved how you explained the significance of every beat and verses in the song. It was a new thing for me and its so amusing. I hope that you can check out *NCT* next! 🔸️Also, just some tips & suggestions based on what I noticed in the live stream 😊 🔹️ Since the comment section was crazy, maybe figure out which songs you will do ahead of time so that people can't complain or request songs nonstop. You could create a community post/poll and decide from there! 🔹️ I don't know if you are familiar with Twitch but it is a good streaming platform that a lot of people use nowdays. And you can stream it on KZbin simultaneously. But with Twitch, you can pretty much watch anything without it getting taken down mid stream. 🔹️ All SM mvs from around 2018 and earlier do not have English ccs!! So if you are intrested in understanding the lyrics, I recommend that you either google the English translations or watching a '"color coded lyrics' video before or after watching the MV!! Just try to find a color coded lyric video not created by Jaeguchi. Same with their bsides. There are always lyric translations out there! 🔹️ Denice was really helpful and I think it's great if you have a second person helping you out with the comment section! 🔹️If you want to understand the SM Culture Universe more, maybe you could do a live stream for that and we can help explain things to you! It can be confusing but it is really cool how they connect everything! I get goosebumps when i find something new 🤣 🔹️ SM also releases "Un Cuts" which are Behind The Scenes videos for their recording sessions, MV filming, and jacket photoshoots. I know you basically see the recording sessions all the time but it might be cool to check it out and share some knowledge on the things they are doing in the studio! As of right now, they mostly have these for NCT and some for SHINee & Wendy from Red Velvet. Also, NCT and aespa are currently SM's most active groups. So i think it would be beneficial to get familiar with NCT's music too if you want to work with them again (and i really hope you do!) Also, it would be cool if you could breakdown songs throughout SM's history to get a bigger picture of their sound! Especially the songs that are considered to be Next Level's ancestors!

The only thing I can say is that the members of exo do know how to sing from their main vocals to their other vocalists and rappers, that's why I follow their songs since their debut in 2012 and I became fans of exo, the kings of kpop since their days. that I am fans of super junior kpop gods who also sing beautiful, exo's vocal mains are Chen, Baekhyun and DO and the vocalists are xiumin and suho and the vocal rappers are chanyol, kai and sehun but they all know how to sing and rap until the main vocals and vocalists .thank you for taking into account this super group which is one of the big and famous popular groups from all over asia.

The response of people to K-pop is truly intense, and K-pop has created some of the strongest fandoms in the world. So the thing you said about fans responding to EXO this intensely applies to a lot of K-pop groups, not just EXO (don't get me wrong, I am an EXO-L, and also a multistan), but the 'loudness' depends on how massive the fandom is (groups like EXO and BTS have the strongest fan voices because of their popularity), tho the level of intensity remains. It's common for fans to call the groups they follow 'legends', 'kings', creating works that are a 'cultural reset'. So it's great to see a more constructive approach to appreciation, because without voices like yours, nothing will cut through the noise in appreciating releases in K-pop. Almost everyone's just practically shouting that the group they follow is 'the best'. Hope you're able to filter through the comments and just enjoy the more constructive responses. :) Though it's sometimes fun...ny (if it doesn't get too stressful) to witness some of the uhh fights. :)) * grabs popcorn *

What I love about this new album is how all the guys have grown vocally and consistent to Exo’s previous songs they just continue to take their craft to the next level. Baekhyun’s voice and range is simply out of this world. Kai’s voice is superb and is perfect in this song. D.O.’s voice is like butter and im ecstatic to have both him and Xiumin back from the military. Speaking of Xiumin, I’ve missed his beautiful tone. I love hearing more of Sehun deep voice. Plus Chanyeol’s voice is always amazing. Then add in having Lay’s vocals! I mean he can do anything. Thank you for reviewing!
