This song is definitely a grower. One thing SM does well with Aespa, they always come out with a title track where theres a catchy hook and a key dance move. The chorus gets quite addicting after a few listens. The only part that threw me off the first time was the last chorus after the dance break. Felt off, but again, after a few listens, it honestly grows. At this point I like this song over Next level.

I think what makes aespa and Savage appealing to me is that it feels dystopian... Like, a new sub-genre of k-pop called dystopia-pop. Like put me on a motorcycle in Cyberpunk 2077 and inject Savage into my veins man. This is their first release that immediately grabbed me, whereas Next Level and Black Mamba had to grow on me after weeks or even months.

I respect the honesty, but everything that people might dislike about æspa, is actually all the reasons why I like them. Their "weird" concept, "weird" sound, and "weird" visual are what I live for!!! Cuz almost all the other ggs (other than RV, imo) out there today are sooooo boring!!! Yeah, you heard me! I've seen & heard all they're doing, 10 years ago, all the sounds they make, 10 years ago, by different artists, and they still keep doing the same thing! The same "(trying too hard to be badass) girl crush" concept with not-so-innovative music, every single time they release something. Or the same "cute/pretty/trying-to-be-sexy" concept with the same "cheerful" themed songs every single time. I mean, where's the creativity? I like that æspa (or the company, I should say) is not afraid to be different. And the girls are all so talented, and I love that even though some members are better at some things than the others, they're not put in a box where they only have to do the things they're best at. And I also love that they don't seem like they're *trying too hard* (to look badass/savage), they come, they get the job done, and they don't need to "look" savage like some other ggs who try so hard to act "tough" and look like "badass". I really appreciate that about æspa! Of course, I'm entitled to have my own opinions just like you guys, and no offense to other ggs (other than RV, cuz they're awesome), I'm just merely pointing out the reasons why I like æspa. And I respect all artists' hard work, so despite my opinions, I respect the other ggs too. Anyway, thanks for the reaction.

Not everyone agrees which as always is fine, not everyone likes the same music. I agree the high notes in the end were too much with the music, but I've learned to love it. I’m still getting used to Aespa overall. Their visuals are something else, without a doubt. After listening to their title tracks, I see what people mean when they say these girls can sing- they’re talented asl. Live too. Probably the best vocals in this current generation of k-pop, I can’t speak to the former gen’s cuz I’m relatively new to k-pop. I felt the exact same way as y’all upon watching the MV, but there was something about that “zuzuzu” part (the chorus?) that did it for me. After 2 more listens, I couldn’t stop listening lmao. I don’t fully get the point of the song, I’m still getting used to this universe, don’t know how to feel about the avatars (except Naevis, she cute but idk what purpose she serves lol). I still need time with Next Level tbh😭 its an adventure in itself lmao. Black Mamba, however, is phenomenal. Great debut song. Giselle is the main rapper and should be having most if not almost all the lines. Karina is the leader, main dancer, center and her lines as a rapper; especially in the album aren't cutting it for me. See the thing about Naevis and the ae's is that it's a part of the storyline for aespa. If they got rid of them then you wouldn't have a connection to the lore aside from the lyrics of the song. I totally understand that SAVAGE is not for everyone just like NCT 127 STICKER wasn't for everyone upon first listen, but you have to keep in mind that the whole thing behind aespa is their lore and the SMCU. Out of all kpop groups that try to have some kind of lore behind them, aespa's is the only one that is strong and consistent for each MV they put out.

I can relate to your comments guys, it's also a matter of taste and it did grew on me a couple of listens later. I'm not an aespa fan, i stan another SM group, but i kinda know what SM wanted here (bear with me pls). Vocals are great, and their concept is unique, no matter how their sound is seen as "abnormal" or as an "anomaly" in terms of structure, it's different from everything at this moment (at least ggs). The "lack" of attitude can be smth SM wants due to the concept, we will see how it evolves later. Regarding the "lazy" choreo i think i know what SM tried to do. The girls ofc are great dancers it's just the section where the aes (virtual members) appear must be PERFECTLY sinchronized with the real members. I see the choice of dance moves as a method for SM to make the rendering of the scene and vfx to sync almost perfectly and show up as real (as all 8 members are in the same room). This sync is quite difficult to edit and expensive tbh. SM mentioned them being also a tech company not only music production (see aespa camera tutorial video) therefore they like to showcase the new tech they invested into or even methods of filming, visual effects etc they patented maybe. They're smart also because they used the camera movements, specific sounds/words and visuals to make it catchy, easy to grasp, immitable (for example TikTok challenge). The producers also like to play with a lot of things, and genres, it's interesting. I don't like SM too much for other reasons....but i must praise they're pioneers in a lot of things and concepts. And even if you see it as experimental at 1st it will actually work and start a trend. In the end this is how you will get noticed, keep in the game...by starting new things, trying. Oh also the album: for some songs i feel the touch of another SM gg, f(x) example YEPPI YEPPI has smth from their song Electric Shock. They were having an experimental sound too back then. But overall the album is quite different from anything kpop these days.

With songs like these you need to block out the instrumentals because it is always too much going on (NCT STICKER, that damn flute is annoying af but aside from that I have no problem.). I focus on the vocals/rap and liked it better on second listen. The best part was the R&B anime section, Karina and Giselle back and forth, Winter/Ningning vocals. I’d say worst was the ending because it’s too many noises happening at once while they are almost trying to outsing each other. I am sure that after a few hours you will have had the opportunity to listen to it again and you will like it more and in a couple of days even more .. it is not a first listen song but it needs to be listened to several times to understand it definitively ..

I 100% agree on these opinions yall have, both their tracks next level and savage suffer this same problem to me where you wana listen to the GREAT parts of the song, like ningning and winter singing + adlibs on savage was everything I was looking for from them, giselles rap sounded savage asf but you gotta get through a whole minute of the really weird sounding hook. To me savage hook was better sounding than next level but it still isn't something I'd just wana listen to. Also a point you made about the beat changing all the time, I love their music but I'm not sure who weaved in that dubsteppy sounding beat towards the end of the song but that just WASNT IT MY GUY. Their other tracks in this album are very good I'll also say, but one thing you said about next level that also applies to savage is "it felt like they got to the next level and they didn't stay there it went back to the hook" thats exactly how I felt about savage. Right when it got savage it didn't stay savage Ps: Lucid dreams best song of the album hands down

@@eli2416 I don’t understand your comment. Every single reaction of ours is from a open state of mind. There is no motive to just disrespect a song. Afterwards we in fact do listen to the song off camera. I have listened to this song some more and I still don’t rock it with. So I stand with my initial statement.

Ever since Black Mamba. I did NOT feel at all with Next Level the same addiction I did Black Mamba. So I went into Savage expecting low and higher standards. Aespa is confusing. I love Savage a HECK OF A LOT more than Next Level. It's just I dunno all over the place and confusing. Although I did order all versions of this album because I truly love Aespa and want to support the girls.

Ace perfectly said my issues with the song. The word "savage" makes me think of Megan Thee Stallion's song, so hearing the valley-girl "omg don't you know I'm a savage" opening line was... well, I saw the word "savage" lose its meaning in real-time.

truly apprecicate your honest review. obviously not all kpop songs are going to be great - even if they're from a big 3 or 4 label. people act like they have to be fully on board with every project from a group that they like, but the truth is there are songs from our favorite groups that are gonna be bad, and we're entitled to our own opionions on the matter. this doesn't mean that this takes away from their talent or diminish their efforts or other projects. it just says that no one's gonna hit a homerun every time. fellas, i always appreciate your feedback - espcially the critical reviews. you guys have helped me better disssect what and why i liked what i liked, and what i disliked. awesome job.

It may not be for everyone on the first listen. If you like aespa, you will listen to it more than once. Once you listen to it about 5 times, you will be hooked.

I liked this song right away. I still like it. I should listen to the whole album. Re the video: I thought it had too many gun effects. I’m sure there’s a novelty factor in using guns in K videos. I wish they wouldn’t aim them directly at the viewer. We 🇺🇸 have an unwritten rule to never point a gun, real or toy, directly at someone’s head. I think it’s a good idea. Anyway, thanks for your honest opinion.

I get that it’s a weird song, but I loved the vocals, I felt that the energy was really consistent throughout, the rap was solid, and I really got the passion and energy. It’s a song I’ve pretty much not stopped listening to since it dropped. That said I do appreciate your honesty. So many reactors are clearly just reacting for clout and playing things up for views.

The problem with your suggestion is that without the AI concept, people are going to call them "Blackpink 2.0" because that group is already doing the "Bad-Ass" concept. To avoid this, SM needed to do something to make Aespa stand out without falling into that trap. Prior to the release of their first single, people acted the same way you guys were. They didn't believe the AI concept would not work and that it was dumb. It wasn't until the release of "Black Mamba" that the public changed their minds. The song was a huge hit, making Aespa the first K-pop group in history to use an AI concept. Apart from the 4 music videos, they did a three episode series on their concept, known as the Aespa lore, that you can watch on KZbin. Now they're taking the AI concept and doing something different with it, which I like because it shows they're doing something different without gettingnrid of the thing that makes them stand out.

The first time i listened to it i also enjoyed only certain parts of it, because it felt rather disjointed. Also had the same problem with Next Level at first, but both songs definitely grew on me now that i've given them a few more listens. The B-Sides on the album are pretty dope though.

Really like Aespa and their potential. Really like the girls and their visuals are on point. Parts of the song I like but it's off. I felt the same about Next Level. This group can really blow it out the park but the material is....confusing. I wonder how they feel about their music. I love Ningning... she's my fav and I don't like AI either. They don't need it.

All SM groups have a thing and AI is theres. I want to see where SM is going with it since Black Mamba introduces us to the villain, Next Level has them realizing they need to find the villain and can take them on and Naevis saying she'd open the portal, Savage has them traveling to Kwanga to find what caused the virus and acknowledging Naevis's sacrifice for them to succeed. I hope they develope a video game or something that has all this music because it works so well.
