@@616Entertainment It absolutely was! You answered a lot of questions I had for it as well as showing unique footage I had yet to see anywhere else so far. As someone who mostly plays a fantasy booking style of game with my own CAWs, I'm mostly disappointed in the limited creation options. That said, I've been looking for my No Mercy fix these last 20 some years so I'll still probably get it eventually as soon as I figure out whether to get it on PC or consoles 🤔!

I bought the Elite Edition and have been playing since the early unlock this morning. I've been having a lot of fun with it and echo your thoughts exactly. I've seen a number of mixed reviews floating about, so it was refreshing to see someone else who enjoys the game as much as I do. Is it a little barebones in terms of match modes and character creation? Yes. However, the actual wrestling gameplay itself is top-notch and reminds me of the N64 classics I played as a kid.

Great review, I love the breakdown of everything. The game looks like it plays really well, albeit doesn't look as good as WWE 2k23. Now they just need to beef up other details like creative department (especially create a title) and things like commentary and I think it'd be a major contender. I do hope they keep their promise of making this a live service style game where they are just constantly updating it and sticking to the one game.

The online is a joke. There are so many problems with this game. And it's been out for over a month and know we have no idea when an update is coming if one is in fact even coming out. The dlc dates turned out to be lies. This is trash and should not have come out for at least 6 more months.

I just noticed that "Fight Forever!" is the tagline in Street Fighter V Arcade Edition's back cover. Also, I'm glad this game seemed to turn out well. I'm probably not returning to this genre (and I haven't watched a single AEW show ever) but wrestling fans deserve a fun game. The most recent one I've played is 2K19 and it was the least playable piece of interactive media I've ever experienced in my entire life.

Thank you so much for this review, Ian. I’ve been excited for this game since its reveal, and after hearing everything you said, I just got more excited😁. Hearing you legitimately say that Fight Forever does indeed play like the AKI games, brings so much joy, as this is what I wanted for years, and now that it’s possible, I can’t wait to recreate the fun magic, all over again. It does suck tho, hearing there are no multi person ladder matches and no cage matches, as those would’ve been insane for this game. Here’s hoping in the future, that they add those options, as well as more creative suite options, and I’m very excited to see future roster members that are gonna be added. I truly hope AEW considers making ROH and NJPW wrestlers as DLC options as those would definitely make this game, all the more crazy and wild, in the dream match department, or nostalgia department for reigniting old feuds and that. Review was Spot on. In a months time, I've put in over 115hrs into fight forever. The gameplay is addictive as hell, fun, easy to pick up, but deep enough for true competitive play. There are definitely issues, and hopefully... HOPEFULLY yukes and AEWGames address it (lack of CONTENT like match types, shop items, creation items, gameplay tweaks, ect), but if they do... This game could end up being a truly great wrestling game.

Cage match omission is truly nuts! I don't need commentary during matches. It's typically bad anyways. Crowd sounds amazing. The actual wrestling is top notch. Feels slightly faster than No Mercy, but slower than HTCP. Perfect middle ground.

I hope they patch in some kind of Universe mode. It’s not really that special of a mode. Just something to keep track of rosters and shows instead of having to do it all with pen and paper in exhibition like we did as kids (like I did, at least). A very basic mode to structure a few shows and monthly PPVs would go a long way in giving this replay value. Or the ability to edit career mode rosters like SYM and HCTP. After watching the whole video, the career mode has sold me. I’d love a Universe mode, even a very simple one, but the career mode here looks like more fun than we’ve had in a long time and it looks like you have more control over your path with little things like competing on b-shows, rather than the heavily scripted and linear modes that started with the first Smackdown vs Raw. Still, a universe-type mode is needed if this game is gonna be treated as a service for several years. I didn’t just play exhibition in 2k19 for 3+ years. As barebones as universe is, it keeps things somewhat interesting without the tedious record-keeping or booking everything in your head.

I got this yesterday since I preordered it and I’m impressed with it honestly. I was a little worried when I’d read online that there were issues that delayed it but it’s exactly like a modern day WWF No Mercy. People doing various reviews get caught up on the lack of creation suite content or the lack of gimmick matches. But they forget, this is a base game! The Smackdown series on the PlayStation consoles were great but try playing the original game, it was severely limited in creation suite compared to what it eventually became. Same with any series of pro wrestling games on any platforms. Also, this game will have many dlc additions and updates so things can always be fixed and/or added later on. AEW Fight Forever gets gameplay right in a way that even the 2k WWE series has not and also doesn’t have the same amount of bugs that all 2k WWE games have been notorious for having. This is a very impressive game for what all it offers for AEW’s first attempt at a video game and it offers us true pro wrestling game fans a much needed alternative. The 2k WWE games are fun too but we’ve needed something different for years and now we have it. I can’t wait until The Wrestling Code is released next year too. Variety in anything is great and AEW Fight Forever gives us all that and then some.

I am eating crow, I didn’t expect a lot of the game deals channel I watch to have reviews of the game. But yours remained the first and most prominent. Initially I wasn’t feeling it. My biggest fear came true as I felt it’s TNA Impact once again, as the signatures and finishers gets the spotlight while normal grapples remains generic moves that everybody has. BUT. After this review and you given a positive insight and liken it to No Mercy(I’ve never played No Mercy) and playing a little bit more, I’ve found the magic and can’t wait to play more…although the lack of gimmick matches does hinder its creativity. I don't know if you've played wwe 2k22 or 2k23 but they are almost a complete redo of the series the overbearing simulation style gameplay restrictions are for the most part: If you want to jump off a ladder in a fatal 4-way tlc match with andre the giant through another ladder bridge go ahead. So although this game severely outdoes WWE, 2k have actually been implementing fast arcade style gameplay.

I played 2K22 and couldn't have a fun Hell in a Cell match. Going near a ring post locked me into a walking animation for like 3 seconds. The AI kept locking into the animation over and over. One punch would have me selling off to the side, toward the post... locking me into an animation. It's not what I want. I really enjoyed 2K18. That was the last one I spent time with.

Match types that need to be added- Cage Matches, 2/3 Falls. Six Man Tag, Backstage Interactive Brawls, Tornado Tag, First Blood, 6 man Battle Royal, Gauntlet and Table Match Add another 16-20 DLC wrestlers like Hager, Samoa Joe, Claudio, Acclaimed, Lethal, Swerve, Gunn Club, Toni Storm, Hayter, Athena, some legends like Taz, Arn Anderson and Billy Gunn Finally I’d like to see create a show or ppv, where you take control of 8 matches or so book them and have show pyro and run ins and interviews backstage, injuries etc.

I've been playing almost none stop for two days now. I jumped in Saturday and played through Sunday. I haven't played a wrestling game in over 20 years! But playing this game blew my mind. This game is AWESOME!!!! The level of detail (aside from physical character creation features being a bit slim) and selection is simply intimidating. Each and every wrestler has their own moves and match their real life counterparts from taunts to basic moves to special moves to finishers. I am IN LOVE with this game. I really hope it sells like hot cakes because I can't stop gushing about it.

I have this game on Xbox Series X and I can definitely vouch for most of the things you said in this review. For someone who played the hell out of WWF No Mercy back in the day, the mechanics felt very familiar and while I agree that there isn't quite as much content as we would like, what is here is very good. I will say that some of the dialog in Road to Elite mode is absolutely hilarious!

So after attending AEW Dynamite for the first time in my hometown Hamilton, Ontario Canada last night I already had this game pre-ordered. Watching the game footage in-arena before the show was aired made me so happy i was picking it up the next day. Got it today and messed around with some of the exhibition matches and some of the other modes. You are so right with that pick and play/No Mercy style. Just like No Mercy and the games in that series, even if you are not a wrestling fan, I think non wrestling fans would like this game for the simple game mechanics. I haven't gone deep into the game yet and still yet to get into RTE.When it comes to the creation suite, I think its perfectly fine for me because when I tried with doing one on WWE 2K23 I found it too overwhelming as I don't need that much detail for my CAW. I agree yes there can be some improvements as well but so far I am satifisfied with the game. The only downside is here in Canada they did not offer (well ast least on the physical copies) the Elite Edition and was just the standard pre-order bonus of Matt Hardy. My friend got the same game digitally for the same price on the Playstation Store and managed to score the Elite Edition. I just hope that later on we can also get the same DLC here even if it has to be purchased. Great review of the game as I was holding off on watching any reviews of the game until I played it myself.

Pretty good review! You, Assemble, DenkOps are like my go-to guys for genuine feedback about the game. Personally I think the lack of crossplay was what held me back from getting it (it's a Sony thing, not AEW's fault) and the game could use some time to cook in the oven before I buy the game, but I'm glad the game isn't too terrible as the reviews elsewhere make it seem.

I've been having an issue where I kick the opponent and rather than setting the table up and putting them on it, my guy just drops it. That wasn't happening when I first got the game, it's strange.

As a creation fiend I'm definitely disappointed to hear the creative side is lacking. Making wrestlers is my favorite thing so I'll probably wait until they add more options. I love creating my own wrestlers and creating attires that aren't included in games and not having that opinion or to change color options is a disappointment. Creating wrestlers,belts, stables and even adding custom music is some of my favorite stuff to do, such a disappointment.

The tribalism with modern wrestling is truly weird…well any tribalism tied to consumerism is weird. Growing up, I tried to consume as much wrestling as I could and didn’t care about the logo on the ring apron. Mind you, if I didn’t like something, I would just stop watching it and focus my attention on what I did like. This game looks fun and that’s what I need in my wrestling games. Great review, Ian. You got me to buy a copy.

Excellent review Ian, and totally agree with your statement especially towards the end. I have seen a lot of negativity in regards to the creation suite, and some would argue it's warranted. But I think a lot of folks forget that this game was created in around 2 1/2 years. Plus, it is getting season passes (hopefully since they have announced season 1) and will not be released on a yearly basis. Which means this release everyone got is just the building blocks to what could be one of the best wrestling games out there.

I love the game, but it's certainly in need of updates and expansions. I was very honest. AEW haters are the only ones apparently not listening when I go into what I'm unhappy about, hahaha. I'm crystal clear about what's not good and what needs work. But the marks act like I'm shouting 10 out of 10! lol

They have said in the past that this will be a base game that’s regularly updated and has many additions opposed to being a yearly release, it may take some time getting used to but this will be a win win for sure 😊🤘

Yearly sequel no, but I wouldn't be shocked to see it be a bi-annual release similar to how EA initially handled their UFC games. The revenue stream has to come from somewhere, and paid DLC can only provide so much.

I think this was a good start for an AEW game. I'm really looking forward to seeing a roadmap for their plans going forward. Gameplay feels like good return to arcade. More emphasis on balance is needed. Too many times there is an apparent rubberbanding effect when I've got the upper hand. Anytime I try to extend the match out past that 5 minute average duration, I end up losing to a light strike grapple. Now couple that with a farcical mash button pin escape that feels unescapable after some arbitrary damage counter, there's not kicking out. I feel like we need a more tangible way of trying to kick out of pins. Yes, the creative suite is limited. But my biggest disappointment was something you touched on: being able to alter wrestling attires, if even just color swapping. I figured that featured would be a given. Hopefully it is something they plan on including in the future.

Not a big fan of AEW but still wanting this game to be good. I do not enjoy how 2K plays anymore and so many of the mocap moves look bad or lack impact. Can already tell just from seeing footage of the game that the moves being animated makes everything look great. If this even captures SOME of the feeling of the great old games (and you say here that it does), that's a success to me. Fans of wrestling games would always say, when it came to wishing a new game would come out or for licenses to change hands, that you have to expect a new game in a new series is not going to be great at first. So if create modes are lacking or career mode isn't great, that's unfortunate but expected. No commentary, again I can see that being a time/resource heavy thing that gets left out of a first game. I'd rather have no commentary than repetitive and distracting. To your point about 1v1 ladder matches, I saw someone on Twitter say they encountered multi man ladder matches in the career mode, but didn't see any way to unlock them or make it available for the rest of the game. Strange. Sucks that there is no cage match. We've been asking for years for a wrestling game that feels like AKI. I feel like people have to support this game, or forfeit your right to complain anymore. You can't hold out for perfect. It sounds to me like this game did enough right to deserve support. If people don't buy it because of things they perceive as missing or negative, well, don't expect a sequel or ongoing support. I know they said they don't aim for this to be an annual series and they plan to just support the game with updates, I don't know how much I really believe that. It would be nice to think that missing things can be added afterwards, but I won't count on that happening. There is talk of a paid "battlepass" kind of system where maybe they can add content and continue to bring in some money, I'd be willing to support that. If all of a sudden there is a new "season" for the game and it adds a cage match or whatever, that will be cool.

I purchased the game and it performed up to my enthusiasm, It reminded me of No Mercy, but there is something that I miss in contemporary games, even this game, and I only found it in No Mercy and some Japanese games in 90s. It is the level of jumping from the top of the corner. Jumping in those games actually suggested that a heavy body rise into the air and hit hard on the floor of ring. It was great every time, and I haven't found a game since No Mercy that has mastered this feature.
