I was a big fan of AEW at the start, i guess i really liked that it was a viable alternative to what was goin on in WWE. But I have to admit i haven't watched a minute of their programming in the last two years, i think they were trying so hard to just not be WWE that they never actually decided exactly what kind of organisation they wanted to be.

Exactly. I think that's always been the problem. Like DQs for instance. Vince had every other match end in DQ just to have a rematch next week for the opposite guy to be DQ. So Tony decides there's almost never gonna be a DQ in AEW. Even when no one stays in the ring and almost no one follows rules in regular matches. So when there is a dq, you're like....why? No one was disqualified when they pur a guy through a table or interfered earlier. Or they do no DQ matches for no reason and no build and it doesn't mean anything cause no one is ever disqualified anyway. If WWE does something and it's bad, it doesn't mean that the extreme opposite is good. Just bad for different reason. They can't decide who the want to be. Everything is just reactionary to WWE and whatever Meltzer says and contrary to what a lot of the IWC likes to pretend is the case, Meltzer has never wrestled in, booked for or run a wrestling company.

It won’t. They recently had to cancel a show which was likely due to not selling enough tickets, if you look at fan videos at AEW shows theres always tons and tons of empty seats. It’s not financially sustainable paying millions per year for wrestlers when you cant even fill a stadium that was booked at half capacity anyway.

Him leaving WCW the first time caused The Radicalz to leave, they all believed they had a future under Russo and him leaving caused them all to jump ship. When he came back, he lost every reputable talent who hadn't been a main eventer except Scott Steiner and Booker T, who he solidified as main eventers before it shut down. Russo gets a bad rap, for every "nonsense on a pole match", he got a credible young talent on side and started filling them with self belief. He just lost too big of a hand when the Radicalz jumped ship, Benoit was the best mid carder they had for years, Malenko wasn't far behind and Eddie and Saturn were considered underused and had a lot of potential in them.

Everybody has their own theories on what AEW needs to get 'back on track', so I'll give mine too. I think they need...stars. Sounds so simple, but they need stars that draw money, sell tickets and will actually do the legwork in order to promote the shows, and the company itself.

They have stars, the problem is tony khan immediately blowing his load as soon as he gets his hands on a newly freed agent, puts them in a dream match without any buildup, then forgets all about or ruins what makes them appealing. He's got big names from Japan and squandered them, he had the hardys and did nothing with them, when Bryan danielson joined, immediately in a dream match with omega, no real build up, just "this is it, your dream match of omega vs danielson!" and that was that! That should have been at least 6 months of build up to that match, and he's been mostly a B tier player since, and the same will happen with lashley. He needs an experienced head of creative and if he really wants to be a good booker, he needs to spend a few years with his eyes open and mouth shut and try to learn from someone with experience. That's my opinion, anyway 😁

The best thing that aew could do is recognize Vince McMahon is a genius and reset their whole obnoxious mentality. Vince is the only person who knows how to break through the wrestling ceiling, those little things he did like insisting his performers be called superstars was because he was aware that casuals are 95% of a potential world audience, and they aren't tuning in because it's wrestling, they're tuning in because of the show presentation. So, to them, he wanted his performers referred to as superstars as if to say "stay on this channel, the other channels have programs with only stars, we have SUPERSTARS". Everytime aew has a character do a promo where at some point they go "I'm not a superstar... That's all blown out of proportion as well, watch Mark Henry best Randy Orton for the world heavyweight title, his post match promo, he refers to himself as a professional wrestler, absolutely no "omg I can't believe he said that" reactions in the crowd or anything. That's just iwc marks. They get a thrill off saying "forbidden words ", like they're 7 year olds. That's what aew tv is like to casual, watching a bunch of 30/40/50 year olds get all excited because they said naughty words they weren't allowed.
