What is the purpose of having rules or referees if the referees do not enforce the rules and allow everyone to do whatever they want to do? There is a reason that rules and referees have existed in professional wrestling since it's inception. Beyond adding realism to what the fans are seeing, it also ensures that every match is different. It prevents you from having a show where every match spends multiple minutes on the floor. It prevents you from having multiple matches with pointless interference. It prevents every tag match from turning into a brawl with everyone in the ring at the same time. It makes those things mean something when you choose to do them. It gives many more options from a booking standpoint. Even ECW had matches with rules. When everybody does everything and every match is the same, it makes all of it mean nothing. It desensitizes people and makes them not care. When people don't care anymore, they stop watching.
