I think it is because in American Pro-Wrestling, trios matches were traditionally called Six-Man Tags whereas 'trios' is a spanish lucha term so champions of Six-Man Tag Matches/Divisions is a good way to remember how the terminology is used. Also NJPW uses Six-Man instead of trios and their longstanding relationship with ROH probably helps justify the terms used. It seems to just be a preference thing.

Honestly, these ROH 6-man belts shouldn’t even exist anymore… It’s bad enough there are both AEW and ROH tag titles on the weekly shows. Then we ALSO have the ‘Trios’ Tag belts to water things down. And then these ROH ones as well. How are you supposed to be able to take anybody seriously as THE top team, when everybody has belts?? 🤷🏻‍♂️ The Bucks and Hangman have been absolutely irrelevant for god knows how long, but because they need to feel validated, they have belts now.
