Thanks for another useful video. Your clarity and expertise is priceless. You have helped me live with my PAF, ectopics, ablation and current questionable heart function more positively. I have picked up so many useful tips from you re. lifestyle changes, Kardia device and magnesium supplementation (to mention just a few). With the way the NHS has been decimated over the last few decades you really have offered a lifeline that the NHS is now too overstretched to provide. Again thank you so much.

I deal with this from time to time. It flips and flops, somersaults, speeds up. I noticed it happens when there is gas/bloating. I'm 46. I'm 6'1" ~280 lbs. I also suffer from Sleep Apnea, I do use an Airsense 10 machine. My Doctors know about this from my past, but they never found it critical. I, to this day, get unnerved when an episode happens.

Hi Doc I came to see you in 2010 after an episode of AF and we discussed life style changes which resulted in me losing over 6 stone and becoming more healthier however the eptopic beats seem to get worse and I tried and tried to get back to see you but I am out of area and my financial situation changed dramatically. Just before the covid19 hit I had another episode of AF resulting in me being rushed to Doncaster hospital for observation. Previously my GP suggested I go on bisprolol for the eptopics and lansop for my BP which had started to creep back up. My weight unfortunately has gone back to what it was and my recent cardiology meeting basically said get the weight back off and stay on the Bosporol for life. I am concerned that the weight isn’t the real issue as he wants me to loose muscle as well and that when I asked for the calcium test and a treadmill test like you gave me he refused saying I am low risk of group 1. However they offered me an anti coagulant but said they would not take it. I am so confused please can you help as you have been the only doctor that has helped me. My mental health is taking a beating here with no answers. Your videos have been a great help but I think I need more investigation and this video has backed that up. Many thanks doc!

Dr. Gupta, I’m so glad you addressed this topic. My brother in law has an ILR and it’s for a year, which I called crazy. You quoted an 8% pickup with monitoring for a year and then 30% for 3 years. If you are having one AF event every 36 months, is that something you would treat with a daily anticoagulant? I understand the uselessness of 1-30 day monitoring for paroxysmal patients, but I can’t see that infrequent of events affecting your CHADS score. Would you give it a point?

I use the Kardia for years now. Its very good at telling me the difference between AF and Tachycardia. Before I started Bisoprolol daily, I would go tachycardic then AF would start. If I suspected tachycardia I could use Kardia to test for it. I could take Bisoprolol and stop the tachycadia and not go into AF. Heavy lifting after eating would set off AF. Hope that all makes sense.

I have paroxysmal AF diagnosed 2 years ago. I have yet to have symptoms. I cannot detect my own pulse. Could you please do a video on detecting ones own pulse. I get a suspicion that I am having an episode and use my Kardia to confirm it. Lately I am getting a lot of episodes and sometimes get unclassified analysis, this morning a had a takekardia reading. I have a loop recorder but I hesitate to poll it because I fear my cardiologist will want me to come to his office in Fresno and I do not want to go there during the epidemic, I am 76 years old. I can't figure put what sets it off.I suspect it is digestion related. Rhythimol was no help. I am thinking of trying Chinese herbal medicine.

Thank you for your knowledge and videos. My mom is 76 and has had AF in recent years. Usually has noticeable episodes about once a year but lately she has been hospitalized and they are now seeing V Tach. With CV-19, we cant go in to be with her or talk to doctors on her behalf. She had an episode a week ago. Had to shock her to get normal rhythm back. Now she is back in the ER with AF and V Tach. I don’t understand what’s going on or if the seriousness of this has grown.

Did your mom face any other health problem with hole.May i know at what age did she notice about hole in heart. As in my case i was shocked when doctor told me at age 37, 3 months back. Doctor did ASD closure with device but after few hours device embolized and then performed open heart surgery. Now I am okay but having Afib and going through some restriction in recovery stage due to surgery. Having heart beat 115 which 85 before surgery. I think it would be better if I kept hole open since i found many people kept it open and having good life.

hasham khan Hello hasham My Mother died at 67, she suffered hypertension most of her life, but nothing any worse regarding her heart, was also a T2D and on insulin, which was not necessary.. as it makes people fatter, and can affect the heart. Mother never suffered altitude sickness, like I did once on a mountain trip.. She suffered angina in later years, never had seen her with shortage of breath.. so was diagnosed with a hole in her heart at the time she suffered a cerebral vascular accident (Stroke) I Helped Doctor with putting in a Central venous pressure line, this is how we found her condition, but it was too late by then. My Mother's Family had a lot of heart issues.. Mother's Father my Grandfather suffered with Mitral valve issues, he died at 32 of a stroke, Mum never knew her daddy.. he died just6 months before she was born in 1929. You suffer tachycardia now more so, I wonder if you should have just left it alone.. Ask Doctor on here he may know what the answer is to regulate the pulse rate..

Get another opinion Dirty Horse! I had AF for a number of years before I mentioned to my Cardiologist that I was interested in looking at undergoing a Catheter Ablation, and when I mentioned it to him he gave me all the negativity associated with Catheter Ablation. You see to this particular Cardiologist it makes sense for me to continue visiting him perpetually as that way he does not miss out on Consultation fees and the kick backs he gets from the Pharmaceutical Industry! Mark my words, some of these characters are just in it for the money! So I finished up getting a referral to visit a Catheter Ablation Specialist and successfully underwent the surgical procedure three years ago and now I am off all medication. Believe me it doesn`t hurt to get a referral from a normal GP to visit a Specialist who deals in Catheter Ablation surgery! And the surgery is virtually pain free! All the best to you!

Sanjay, thanks for your great vids. I have had no known AFIB for over 4 years. Back in 2017, you did a vid about mediterranian diet supplemented with 4TBSP of EVOO. Has your opinion changed since then? Also, I am trying to increase my HDL, which is 17. My total is 70 with 53LDL. I know alcohol is a risk factor for AFIB, but if you were me would you consider small amounts of red wine for this? By the way, I am taking only metoprolol tartrate, diltiazem and aspirin at the time. I am 70. Have never used alcohol before.
