We had done so well under van Marwijk and Renard, especially the latter because Renard genuinely treated us like a family. However Mancini has shown that he doesn't understand what we need from him. He just tries to impose his authorities rather than sympathising with the players, plus his decision to abandon the team while we were doing penalties against South Korea said a lot about his characteristics. It was why some players revolted against him. We are having troubles this time around, and I am not sure if we can hold our good results against Japan at home, leave alone Australia or even China and Bahrain. If Mancini still operates like a Caesar we are certain to doom in our qualification.

Don't rule out Indonesia's chances for the World Cup qualifiers. It seems that you're only talking about the men's senior team, but actually this country was now rising in football. I mean, the youth levels had a notable big results. In the U-23 Asian Cup, Indonesia went all the way to the semifinal after beating Australia and South Korea, but you know that they were so close to play in the Olympics due to the bad referee decisions. More recently, the U-19/U-20 team had made a viral across the social media after beating Argentina 2-1 in a friendly match. So yeah, anything is still possible for us, especially for the home games to be played in Jakarta (GBK Stadium).

Don’t underestimate Indonesia. They could be in the 2nd or 3rd. They have crazy supporters. There’s no way the opponent teams could win at the GBK stadium in Jakarta. Bear in mind that they lost against Iraq in Jakarta because 5 top European based players didn’t play: Jay Idzes (Vanezia serie A), Verdonk (NEC Nijmegen), Jens Ravens (sc nootdordt), Marten Paes (fc Dallas) and others still to come to be neutralised down the track.

We let Vietnam to take over Park Hang-seo, Malaysia grab Kim Pan-gon, and Indonesia with Shin Tae-yong. These teams earned tremendous successes with our managers. That said, however they have their limits and they are not very good at the World Cup qualifications in decisive moments. Vietnam under Park outperformed the rest of Southeast Asia by winning at least a game in the final round, but still didn't qualify. Malaysia came agonisingly close if not for Kyrgyzstan deliberately held Oman. The only outsider that didn't use Korean manager was Thailand, but the Thais had not won either. I think we need to doubt Indonesia first, this is senior level, not U-23.

Would be frank to say, but I think group C, while deeply disappointed with the way how it was drawn, may not be the same like 2018 and 2022, and for several reasons. Saudi Arabia isn't the same like 2018 and 2022 anymore. They have weakened due to constant changes and their struggle to adjust with Mancini's tactics. They look more vulnerable than before. This could be a time where Saudi fragility truly come to play. Japan is still the top team but their Asian Cup form suggest there is a huge worries about them, though I expect they may try to limit that by their effective strikers. Meanwhile, Australia certainly feels rejuvenated by their 2022 World Cup credit, and may become stronger this time around. However, Australia will need to learn from past mistakes if they ever want to make amend of their 2018 and 2022 poor qualifying forms. People underestimated China too much because of their poor Asian Cup and WCQ forms but I think they can fight for fourth place; don't forget that the same China that once held Iran, beat South Korea in 2018 cycle and was responsible solely to Australia's 2022 WCQ struggle, and their coach Ivankovic is an expert of making surprise results. Bahrain can also fight for a fourth place, though it is hard to imagine how they will perform. It's naive to claim Indonesia will go fourth given Indonesia's history of aiming for short term gain instead of long term strategies, something they are still pursuing, Indonesia won't qualify, and that's the fact.

I think bahrain is strong enough to be in 4th place. China is good at defending but lack in attack, while indonesia is the opposite. But Bahrain is somewhat balance in both attack and defense.

Bahrain was given a too easy draw in the second round (facing Yemen and Nepal, which are some of the worst teams in Asia, didn't contribute much). And they haven't done much better outside a meek but acceptable Asian Cup performance. A bit question is how are they going to punch above the weight with the mediocrity they currently possess.

A Spanish Filipino here. I think Indonesia can't even reach playoffs, though I try to be positive as much as I could. The only time a Southeast Asian team won in this phase was in 2022 cycle, and it was won when they were already firm to be out. Those expecting Indonesia to reach playoffs need to be careful to what they are going against. In my own expectation Japan will still stand top of the table although Japan may no longer stay invincible after what's going on. Australia may look dangerous this time around, they have the ability to stay resilient despite being thrown to disadvantages by Japan and Saudi Arabia in the past, and now they are more likely to qualify directly with the reinforcement of those playing in Germany and Italy.

Thank you for making this but Why everyone got that predictions ! Australia never ever qualified directly to WC since they moved to AFC . Also Australia ,Japan , Saudi Arabia played in the same group for 3 WC qualification and Japan always lose to Saudi Arabia and Australia in away match .

Australia qualified directly back in 2010 and 2014 WCQ, but not the 2018 and 2022 ones (only via playoffs). Japan beat Australia twice the last time around, but Japan never beat Saudi away nor even scored a single goal. However, time has changed.

Actually, Australia 🇦🇺 has qualified directly for the 2010 and 2014 World Cups since joining the AFC in 2006. For 2018 and 2022 WC Qualifying, we went through Inter-continental play-offs vs. Honduras 🇭🇳 and then Peru 🇵🇪.

Funny when you rated Indonesia, a team full of foreign novices, to finish in the playoffs. I remember how the Indonesians insulted us Uzbekistan after we beat them 2-0 in U23 Asian Cup, despite presences of their foreign mercenaries (before they confirmed their failure by losing to Iraq and Guinea lol).
