Thank you for this video. I noticed in my home panel I have both breakers with the white test button and the purple test button. Why would the installer use both types versus just one type? Would cost be the only determining factor?

The main difference between a purple button breaker and a white button breaker is the type of protection they provide: Purple button breaker A purple button breaker is a dual function breaker that combines ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) and arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) protection. GFCIs protect people from electric shock, while AFCIs protect the wiring in your home from electrical fires. White button breaker A white button breaker is a combination arc fault circuit interrupter (CAFI) breaker that protects against parallel and series arc faults. CAFI breakers help prevent fire hazards caused by damaged electrical wiring.

That is the information I found online online describing best the difference. I believe a lot of times it can just be what code is asking for and what is planned to be on that circuit. Other times it could be what is available honestly. I’ve seen a lot of places being out of one kind and only have any other, but they need to get the circuit wired so they obviously use the right amperage but may or may not get the exact Type breaker as far as color code

My panel is around 40 years old. Wouldn't i have to upgrade to a panel like yours to install the plug in breaker with no pigtail.

It does depend on you you panel. Not sure how the panels looked 40 years ago but I’d guess they are different. And sometimes even just brand to brand they have a different “type” of breaker that they accept.
