Glad I’m not the only one that wanted to like this but felt so disappointed sitting there in the movie theatre. Definitely one of those pretentious movies that takes itself too seriously. And I also agree that the last five minutes were the most impactful but the buildup of the film did NOT contribute to the pay off whatsoever. You’re right about the last five minutes being able to stand as its own short film because even without all the context of the film, that scene was powerful. I found myself confused that I was crying too because the rest of the film doesn’t evoke any of the same emotions from me. Thanks for keeping it real and not being like some of these other pretentious movie reviewers that eat this sh*t up lol

Anytime Andrew hahaha, I really wanted to love it but I have to keep it real on here. Glad there are people who love it but it just did not hit the way I wanted it to. I appreciate the comment and welcome to the channel!

If a film's trailer makes me cry I know I'm going to adore it. Luca never misses.

Oh my goodness I felt fun watching this movie too. I was like should I ask the person next me in the theater to explain what I just watched. I could not get into these movie. I thought it was horrible. But if you enjoyed and understood, good for you. ❤

Man I had SO much excitement for this buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut. I didn’t like the suspiria remake. I felt like it lost some of the artfulness it had despite being a genuinely good modern horror. It wasn’t a good modern suspiria. But I am gonna watch queer bc the book is great but I’m not expecting a ton. Great video

Thank you! Totally get it, but hopefully the film works for you! I know a few people that I talked to who read the book prior really loved what Luca did with it, so I hope you fall in that same camp!

This was a hit for me, but I didn’t like the Suspiria remake At All.

Glad you liked it! I know a lot of people didn't love Suspiria, but I think about that movie at least once every other week it seems like lol!

To me, this isn't very much of a review. I have no idea what you actually like so much about the ending, and I'm even more in the dark about what you didn't like, aside from feeling like the movie is too long. (I find the latter an interesting criticism, especially as you mention liking "Challengers" & "Call Me By Your Name." Both movies may have shorter runtimes than "Queer" but simply regarding how all three are edited, the other two movies are frequently much slower paced than almost any given 5 mins of "Queer." In fact, I was surprised how quickly "Queer" moves, whereas the other two spend much more time languishing in various scenes.) We are probably coming from very different places. For me, "Suspiria" contains technical virtuosity nearly to excess, while it is often distracted with weak shoe-horning of its historical period, certain subplots, and a superfluous expository ending. "Call Me By Your Name," meanwhile, is for me like a beautiful postcard of Italian summer countryside, and then when you turn the card over, it's white, blank. So much of the movie is surface, overly reliant on lush photography & moody music, while beneath it is sanitary, empty. I've seen it twice in full, then half of it once. I do quite like "Challengers," and "Queer."

It's definitely on the shorter side of one of my reviews because this a segment from a 3 1/2 hour video I did breaking down every movie I saw at Toronto, so I apologize if I didn't get super detailed on everything since I wanted to keep every movie I talked about as Spoiler free as possible. I just think the ending of Call Me By Your Name alone triumphs over anything Luca attempts in Queer, but again that might just be different taste. I think the needle drops he used in this most recent one didn't work even close to how well they did in CMBYN, but that's the tiniest aspect of what matters to me when watching a film. At the end of the day in the simplest wayL CMBYN and Suspiria make me feel something that Queer feels like it wants me to feel, but I just couldn't. Glad you loved it.

I agree with you about Luca being hit or miss. Not had the opportunity to see Queer yet. Hopefully soon.
