Pretentious movie critics are guarded about their opinions. As far as movie reaction for me? My opinion doesn't really change about a movie after seeing it a 2nd or 3rd time. It's best to have an initial reaction anyway because normy movie goers will not see it 5xs.

Mr Melancholy changed the show from its original version to streaming as a gaslighting to the decaying Owen. Also, the musical guests appear at the bar mentioned in the Pink Opaque, and the show’s episodes always had a live band . If you listen to the lyrics, the music actually sums up the themes and trajectory of the movie too.

@johnking5433 that payoff was explained in large coloured crayons. No nuance, just a very short bullet point summary. For a movie so long and greedy with its own time it felt like a short reddit reply for a dissertation. Great acting and nice aesthetics but for me there were so many themes yet all were shallow in their exploration. Ie The addiction theme was explored less than a netflix mid series. Oh well, whatever I say will have some people tell me I'm wrong. The problem with a hyoed movie is people get carried away and if revisited a year later I'm sure they would have forgotten they even saw it, let alone their favourite parts. On that point, I absolutely loved the scene of Brody/Pearce following the Italian excavator up the mountain. The echoes and shadows of the war were so close by. Yet that made me yearn to actually see those events, for they would have been far more interesting.

I just watched it and i love it. I didn‘t want it to end … yes the ending is a little theft, the abrupt Prologue threw me off at first because we want to See more of Lazlo.. I can‘t stop thinking about it, the Images but especially THE SCORE ❤ can‘t wait to See it again!!!

Anyone comparing this movie to "The Godfather" or "There Will Be Blood" is mentally incapacitated. They're an insecure idiot trying to sound cultured. It's ok to like it, but to compare it to those?? Probably the same people that support "Emilia Perez's" 13 Oscar nominations... Stop it....

How was this movie even hyped, even more, how did it win awards?! This is one of the most overhyped, overrated movies I’ve ever seen. Saw Anora, that was at least entertaining, but the fact that these two films are supposedly the best Hollywood has to offer just goes to show how far they’ve fallen.

The main problem I had with this movie is that Guy Pearce's character is a psychopath - it asks you to believe that a world renowned architect would put up with him for years on end to make a sneak memorial with little to no pay. It's an absurd idea.

She didn't need to over act as it was about sadness of losing a way of life. Also this movie was made in 18 days.

This may sound nitpicky but I didn't know you as a film critic and I have to say that the fact that you don't know how to pronounce the name of the main actor (Ralph Fiennes) hurts your credibility.

You put Wolf of Wall Street way too high. It’s at the bottom of his filmography. That film is overrated.

As I'm rooting for Fernanda, I'll explain why for Brazilians the film is problematic and this is not the fault of any of the actresses, but rather a prejudiced view on the part of the production team towards the Mexican people when saying that Spanish is the language of immigrants, who did not study Mexican culture and that everything was produced in France. With Brazil, French producers already produced a film in the 60s with this same speech and this film also competed for the Oscar! Other than that, touching on a topic as heavy as the missing and their families, including a former drug trafficker who, just because she became a trans person and left all her "hatred" behind, became a saint, and he is also responsible for that suffering and transforms the victims in idiots! It's a movie! Yes, but an offensive film!

It isn’t a big Hollywood movie - it’s an atmospheric, independent art movie shot in 18 days - if you don’t like it that’s your biz but don’t judge it for not being Star Wars or The Godfather or Spider-Man because that’s not what it is - you seem to be annoyed that an apple isn’t an orange

I think that “one scene” caused me to get lost with where the movie was going. Not saying that the scene wasn’t needed but it almost distracted me from where the movie was trying to land and toward the end, it felt rushed and too many ends were left untied

There were good studios in the 90s and early 2000s that people felt they could rely on, as well. A Miramax logo used to mean something other than a bad feeling about Harvey. Focus Features too. Lots of other ones.

I kinda fail to see how anyone waxing poetic about A24 has drawn the line to Gregg Araki films. They were all I could think of when I first saw Euphoria, and obviously has truckloads of that A24 aesthetic. Black Bear is producing the new Araki film and I genuinely hope it gets released on A24 so those who don't know his work can finally get to see his genius.

The Brutalist was objectively not a great movie I am a huge cinephile and this movie was just not great The acting was awesome considering what the actors had to work with but the movie as a whole was just not even good. For the most part I sat there for 3.5 hours kind of mad at myself for buying a ticket to watch a movie just because of “buzz”. I wish people would stop hyping this movie up. It was a miss for me. Yes the actors deserve some praise here and maybe the score too but that is where it stops for me. When it finally ended I was grateful it was over and mad I wasted 3.5 hours of my life. All that said, Emilia Perez was utter trash and at least I can say that The Brutalist was at least so much better than Emilia Perez.

I'm Mexican... First, Why a French director is making a movie about Mexican Culture/Social problems with such ignorance ? Everyone in Mexico is hating this "Taco Bell" portray of Mexico as a country. The worst part is that none of the actors are Mexican and the movie was not shot in Mexico, the movie was shot in Paris. Furthermore, this movie is about mocking Mexican culture/society and truly portrays a "Garbage" image of our country. FYI: The Mexican journalists at Cineteca Nacional located in Mexico City Jan/14, were waiting for the French director Jacques Audiard and talk about the film and he didn't show up...COWARD. In short, this film is stupidity at its finest.

I gave at 1 on letterboxed. I am not joking when I say this is the most offensive movie I have seen in ages. It has nothing to do with AI or Zionism btw. I just think Brady Corbet is a horrible pretentious visionless inept director. It's an awful movie. Ugly too.
@Itsalwayscloudyincleveland5 күн бұрын
Completely agree. Corbet is so full of himself, you don't even need to see his interviews where he tries to come off like the next Bergman or Tarkovsky, just watch The Brutalist and you'll see how hard this film tries to be "important" and "grand." But it's all a facade.

Cut out all the sex and drugs and focus on the immigrant story and the brutalist philosophy. Then you'd have a great film. I felt like the drama was fighting with the big ideas that make the film special. Also, you're focusing a lot on the reception of the film, which clouds the merits of the film itself. Fair enough. Here's a related point. I probably wouldn't recommend this film, or even discuss it, to/with a lot of people because of the sex and drugs and assault stuff. It would be easy to recommend a film about how architectural styles that emerge from WW2 still have political resonance today. But this film doesn't let you decouple those ideas from with an extra hour of dramatic embellishments that would turn off a lot of people.

Once you can fully grasp this concept, and look around… You will Understand that these “ Ridiculously fictional“ flicks are there too Make you buy more shit and keep you dumb. ALL OF THESE, Mildly captivating “waste of 2 1/2 hours“, are put out and pushed by the big corporations that own everything from the studios to the bag of candy With the new superhero, or those stupid underwear you’re wearing are simply a $$. They or have financial interests in all of those businesses. YOU are just a 🐑, Sheep. BV$

Thank you for an honest review! I just got through watching it, and I, too, was really disappointed. Pam Anderson is OK, but she doesn't carry the film, nor is it an award winning performance. The co stars however do and I was surprised at how short it is. People compare it to The Wrestler, and I definitely can see why. Both plots are very similar except The Wrestler has more meat on its bones.
