Love your tutorials, you've really helped me get a grasp at how to best colour the drawings I create. You could create a course on how to best use affinity designer for illustration, or general use, I'd be first in line! Keep bringing these out, they're amazing. Love to see your work and process behind it all

Thanks heaps! Glad you've found a workflow that works well for you. I've got a few other affinity tutorials in mind. Eventually, when I release my drawing course, I plan to show people how to bring their drawings to a digital workspace using Affinity. There's a lot this app can (and can't) do, and hopefully I'll have a few more videos up to demonstrate that first.

@RSKT_art3 жыл бұрын
So happy to hear that! Procreate is agreat app too though. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. They work pretty well together though! I'm still more comfortable digitally painting portraits in Procreate, although I haven't given it a good shot in Designer yet.
@KreeTerry3 жыл бұрын
@@RSKT_art I find myself gravitating to procreate bc I have a few brushes there that work really well (90% of them from frankentoon, easily the best brushes I’ve found for any software) that I don’t have versions of on designer. But I know that’s just from not using the app as much. The vector work flow is more my speed usually I just haven’t quite found how to best utilize them for me if that makes sense
@RSKT_art3 жыл бұрын
@@KreeTerry ah true. I definitely hear you about the brushes. I guess one big advantage AD has over procreate is being able to easily continue your project back on the Desktop. It would be great if Procreate ever released a desktop version, but even then, it would probably be Mac only.
@KreeTerry3 жыл бұрын
@@RSKT_art at the moment I’m iPad only do that doesn’t really affect me. Though my wife and I are planning to get an iMac soon so that is a good point. I could see myself using AD more of I end up working on the iMac since the holes move straight across both version as well as the different affinity apps. Guess I just need to pony up and grab the frankentoon brushes I’m missing on affinity and dive in. The octopus pack is the one I’ve played with the most in AD and it is really amazing. That pair with the Neptune pack just gives things a unique organic look.

Hey! Sorry, this is an older video..I've covered that extensively in my more recent projects. There's even an hour long tutorial up on Affinity's channel that walks you through the process. Either way, the sketch was dragged and dropped on there and set to 30% opacity. The brushes are Frankentoon's Inks Pro and Texturiser brush packs. Hope that helps you get started :)

Hey, im searching currently for an clip studio paint/Krita alternitive and i really like the UI from Affinity Desinger do you think that i can draw in the same quality in affinity as i coud in Clip studio ?
@RSKT_art3 жыл бұрын
I haven't used Clip Studio much but from what I see, each have their pros and cons. Both offer high levels of quality in the drawing department though. At this current time, however, I'm probably not the best person to ask. Sorry :/
@kerrymitchell39823 жыл бұрын
When you switch back to vector and raster persona. Is the end result a vector ? I am not understanding what happens when you have both pixel layers and the vector layers.
@RSKT_art3 жыл бұрын
So everything that is vector is still vector, and everything that is pixel is still pixel. It's just all happening in the one app. You can jump between the personas and they still stay what they are (unless you rasterise something). At the end of the day, it's going to be exporyed as a pixel image. This is just one method of illustrating that works for me :)
@LunaelleSonic3332 жыл бұрын
So in your experience, how well do the pixel layers scale up on a drawing like this?
@RSKT_art2 жыл бұрын
Pretty well! This is a 5000px squared canvas, so it's quite large and good enough quality for posters. For banners, however, you'd want to go larger (or use an AI upscaler like Gigapixel to aid in the process).

Great video! My 12 year old son is really beginning to push his potential skills in illustration and this has helped immensely as he's also learning to use affinity. Also... how did you get the pencil tool to auto fill as you drew the lines, we cannot seem to get it to do that. When we do it it just draws the line, but then we have to physically select the fill and colour? any tips there would be marvelous.
@RSKT_art3 жыл бұрын
That's so awesome to hear you and your son are working through this! If you have a look at my channel, I have a much more in-depth tutorial for this illustration process on the main page. I highly recommend following along with that if this is the style you're going for (it uses a tenticle for an example too). For your pencil tool question - When you select the pencil tool, there is a little "use fill" checkbox along the top toolbar. If you're using an iPad, it appears in the toolbar at the bottom. Once that's selected you can select your fill colour and disable the stroke. Hope that helps :)

Hi in this video are you still using Graphics tablet Intuos Pro?? i have huion inspiroy Q11K, i just thought i would like to buy new tablet like kamvas pro or something where i exactly see what i am drawing. but it still expensive. i was thinking also about intuos pro. what size do you use?? thanks
@RSKT_art2 жыл бұрын
Hey there. So i'm using one of the OLDER intuos pro models. I think they've upgraded them and have different size options avaliable now. I was using a small for this, but on the older models that's still quite large. Honestly, I think investing in a screen tablet would be the way to go. It's a lot more natural than drawing with a standard tablet, however as you said, it's a lot more expensive. It's worth noting that Affinity Designer is avaliable on iPad OS, so you could always buy an Ipad and an Apple Pencil, and that way you're getting a multipurpose device instead of just a screen that plugs into your PC. Good luck with making the right choice :)
@ProjectCreativeStudio2 жыл бұрын
@@RSKT_art i was thinking about IPad OS long time. but when you said your stylus is connected to the device and must stay charged all the time, and also use battery rapidly so i decided no.

Pretty cool. I'm crossing over from photography into this, which is a pain cos I can take a good photo so I want to be able to draw it today. Like I don't wanna make these kindergarten looking drawings when I know I can do better. Time to hit the books. Also that highlight on the edge, isn't that the rim light from a light source from behind? So shouldn't it be missing from the tentacles in front of the eyeball? I don't know like I said my drawings look like kindergarten drawings.
@RSKT_art3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! You're absolutely right, it's a rimlight, which is usually from a backlight source, but as I said in the video I wasn't really concerned about realistic lighting for this. Sometimes some funky lighting can make a image pop in an interesting ways I do this a lot with illustrations like these, but never for portraits or more realistic pieces. There shouldn't be a shadow on the eyeball either (from the tentacles), it should be reflective. There's a lot wrong with it, but for a vinyl sticker design, it does the job. Definately stay tuned, I've got a few more old time-lapses like this to do voiceovers for and upload, then I'm thinking of making a drawing course that anyone can follow (regardless of their experience) :)
