Is anybody else getting issues when using smart actions where your line/vector point starts to wobble/shoot around between first/last keyframes? It's a very frustrating issue and the only way I can try to fix it is to keyframe almost every frame for about 5-10 frames to keep it but then it just stutters close together because I cannot get it perfectly smooth. There must be a resolve to this. Please help!
@RSKT_art15 күн бұрын
So I definately get that problem too, you're not alone. They touch on it a few times in their tutorials. From what I've gathered, it can be an issue of two smart actions influencing the same beziere, but most often the issue is changing the beziere handle instead of just moving the vector point. It's a weird issue that I hope gets ironed out some day, but now I try my best not to move the beziere and not tie points to multiple actions where possible. Not ideal, but it works most of the time.

there isnt a merge selected/visible either when right clicking layer or going to the layers drop down on my AD2?

I'm also a Moho dabbler and have been testing Affinity Designer. That first video convinced me that the combination of those programs is not the best idea. This one showed that Moho's own drawing tools are adequate. I like the pen tool in Designer, it has better control than Moho's, but hiding parts of lines and varying line width is so much easier in Moho. Even for still cartoons, Moho is a good option. I was able to duplicate Victor Paredes' dinosaur that looked hand-drawn, this Mantis is a bit over my head with all the controls, but it's explained really well. I don't know anything about violent Soho either, maybe that's the price of being an old American who lives in Germany.
@autofocus45563 ай бұрын
Can you still get the same control if you import affinity designer vectors separated into different layers or does it screw up everything once imported into moho?
@RSKT_art3 ай бұрын
To some extent. If you were to design the character with its outline and colour on separate characters, then it should work pretty much the same. However, if you're just exporting them as images, it might behave a little different. I think drawing inside of Moho offers up a lot more creative freedom. It just takes some getting used to.

@RSKT_art3 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! Yeah, styles are a tricky thing to wrap your head around, but once you understand it properly it can drastically speed up your workflow. It allows you to make changes to strokes, fills, and other things with just the click or two of a button. I'd highly recommend reading through the manual and experimenting with a practice file to help get the hang of it.

im so late, only just learning affinity ~ but when doing a bigger piece, do you do one section at a time? or do the full image? hope this made sense...
@RSKT_art3 ай бұрын
Hey! So my workflow is basically draft > line work > clipping masks > shading > shadows > highlights > colour correction. You can see this process in a few of my other videos where I do larger pieces. If you want a more in depth look to this illustration, check one of my webinars I made for Affinity's official channel. I do a larger piece while also breaking down a smaller piece at the same time. It's basically the same as this video but way more in depth. Hope that helps :)

I'm new to graphic design, and just beginning to learn. Are you using some sort of touch screen and stylus to draw this image? It would seem difficult to produce this kind of freehand drawing by dragging a mouse around. Towards the end of this presentation, you freehand the printing of words while recapping the tutorial. And I thought, "no way is he using a mouse to print letters!". Am I wrong?
@RSKT_art3 ай бұрын
I definately am! I'm using a crappy old graphics tablet in this video. In some of Moy other videos I'm using an ipad pro. If you look through my other videos though, I actually have one that shows you how to illustrate like this with just a mouse and keyboard (which I actually do a lot). Affinity has some really cool stabilising features that make it really simple to illustrate using just a mouse. Definately check it out :)

@RSKT_art3 ай бұрын
Yeah the clipping masks can be a bit strange sometimes. You basically want to make sure the clipping mask layer is selected, and when you go to draw on it, you need to draw inside of it. It doesn't always work though so sometimes you just click anywhere to create a pixel layer, and then drag it inside of the clipping mask layer so it's nested inside of it. Hopefully that helps :)

I used Adobe animate for a long time. My personal experience is even after all the updates, it's a program that just scratches the surface of a lot of great tools without giving you more advanced features. That said, it's still a great and fun program. Personally, I find Moho's bone tools and drawing tools are 100x more fleshed out than Animate. I'd reccomend getting a trail of each one to see what works best for you though.

Hey, so it should mask out properly when you draw on the canvas, but sometimes this issue happens for. me too. If it does, drag your new pixel layer onto the vector layer in the layers panel. This is legitimately one of the best Moho tutorials I've seen. Excellent job. It really helps to see an artist's perspective of the software rather than a developer's. Do you happen to have much experience with other software that does 2D rigged animation? I'm strongly considering using Moho, but I'm curious how it stacks up to free options like Grease Pencil.
@RSKT_art5 ай бұрын
Thanks so much, and sorry for the late reply. So I actually had been trying to use Blender to do this sort of 2D rigging when the 2D animation UI was implemented. While I think grease pencil is amazing, it couldn't quite do this. Fortunately there is a fantastic KZbinr who's been making a Blender plugin that let's you do smart bones and actions. I haven't looked into it yet, but it looks cool. Either way, as far as Moho goes, I think it's great. I do think the UI could use an overhaul, I wish there was a outliner, and I wish some tools were easier to use. That said, none of this undersell what it is. It's a great tool for both solo Animators and teams to make quality animation! Definately give it a go!

Hey! Following along with your tutorial I'm noticing that something must be missing in setting up Smart Bones. For some reason, my actions for torso turn appear as "Regular" instead of "Smart Bones" and I can only animate the turn by scrubbing through the timeline while the action is highlighted. Whenever I try to manipulate the bone in the Mainline, nothing happens. I don't know where I'm going wrong, but it seems like maybe there's an extra step in here that would link the bone to the associated animation when in the normal timeline?

Thank you for this video. I found your explanations extremely helpful. I've just bought the 3 Affinity apps. So far I am very impressed. Affinity Designer is very fast and quite easy to adapt to. One downside to Affinity Designer though is that I miss the the ability to blend between objects - which as a Freehand user from many years ago, I used a lot. Adobe back then bought out Macromedia and although FreeHand lived for a while there, Adobe let it die.

Good question! Make sure you're in the pixel persona when sketching. If you're still having issues with that or the vector line work, try making your document larger. I often find the smaller the resolution of my canvas, the more it corrects the stroke. The larger the resolution, the less it seems to. Hope that helps! :)
