Interesting, but it doesn't really look like the inflated designs you get in Illustrator. There is light and shadow and depth, for sure - it looks dimensional, but there's no pillowing effect. It doesn't look like its inflated with air - it doesn't look like a balloon, in other words. It looks like a piece of hard, molded plastic. It's a start, but I am looking to recreate the pillowy effect. The shadows need to be deeper, the light more curved and diffuse, the bright highlight more sharp. I've just gotten Affinity Designer and I was wanting to make this effect after seeing so many inflated designs on CF so thank you anyway... I wonder if it can be tweaked even more to get that real balloon inflated effect!

It's not Illustrator. It's a workaround. It's nowhere as easy and as refined as Illustrator... but you can spend more time on it, add and adjust the effects, group the content with the effects and add more fx to the groups [add another bevel with just shadows set to multiply or add an additional 3D fx for strong rim lights]. This was recorded as a mini video to answer a social media question. It's an example that it is [sort of] doable in Affinity Designer. Best of luck!

Very cool ideas, thanks for sharing! I always thought of bevel as one of those left-over 90's effects (not that there's anything wrong with that), but you seem to have gotten some really great results with it.

It is an effect that gets used too much and quite often in the wrong way. It can easily look tacky but it can also give you quick results that look good. It's a fine line but definitely worth playing with.

Same, but it got quite a renaissance with the acidgrafix phenomena that was the hottest trend on IG two years ago. Especially chrometext.

Did you know if you click fx logo the square in the layer you can just drag it into the others instead of the menu bar

I do... but it's a v2 exclusive feature and this video was recorded in v1 as the key effects [bevel and 3D] work just the same in v1.

What's not working? Is it the KZbin display of the video [which seems fine as it has been viewed over a thousand times] or the content [which seemed to work when I recorded it in Affinity Designer v1]...
