Wow ! Rob your video is so clear and concise and I'm amazed by the different ways I can adjust / edit and IR image that I didn't know about previously until I found your website and KZbin channel. Thanks for explaining these controls so well.

thank you Rob - this is an excellent video. I have a Canon pocket camera that's been converted and I've been struggling to get the best out of it with Affinity. Thank you for such a brilliant video.

Thanks Rob, really helpful. Recently bought AF2 (been using Luminar Neo) but, though I’m still learning AF2 it’s growing on me as my main photo editor.

I have AF2 as well (yes, I am a software gear nerd too)! Thanks for this. Note, too, that Affinity (all products) keeps things up-to-date but not painfully so.

Thank you Rob, been waiting for a video like this for IR in Affinity. I find the Persona a bit puzzling as I’m more of an LR user so thanks again for this video which I will use for reference to get to grips of IR in this product. Regards.

Just what I needed, along with Capture One! Thanks! Have you tried Zomei's IR filters?

I have not tried them personally. I have helped a few people diagnose bad images shot with them and would not recommend.

Thanks, Rob, another great video. Question, I see you're using a 590 nm conversion, would a 720nm image have differences in color? (I'm using a 720nm camera), thanks.
@robshea
@robshea 9 ай бұрын
The main difference is that an image shot with a 720 nm filter will have less color saturation than an image shot with a 590 nm filter. Of course, you can always increase or decrease color saturation while editing.

are all of the beautiful ir photos you see painted/manipulated in a similar fashion as this? is there no editless, or straight out of camera(ish), solutions?
@robshea
@robshea 3 ай бұрын
Here are some straight out of camera solutions. For monochrome images, use a 720nm or higher filter and use a monochrome profile in your camera. For color images, use a full spectrum converted camera with an IR Chrome filter. You can even shoot in JPEG if you set your white balance in camera.

@@robshea thank you so much for your time/reply 🙏🏽 i’m considering buying a 590nm converter e-p5 + i might try to play around w/ the in-cam pre-edits + if the colors don’t cooperate, i might try a 700nm lens-filter + go monochrome

So maybe I can find some help here: I just recently picked up IR Photography with my dads old LUMIX camera. I am trying to edit just like it's told in the video, but AF seems to not identify the blue sky on the RAW images I try to work on. I am using an old Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5, with the 720 filter by Hoya.

You could turn up the ISO to focus and then turn back down for the shot. You could try manual focus. If your camera supports it, I recommend peak focusing with the peak color set to blue. This makes manual focus a breeze.

@@robshea Thank you very much, that helped me out quite a lot. I am trying to get deeper into the topic, but feel like I already reached the limitations of my old Lumix. Theres quite some pixelation happening. Highly appreciated!

Sure, WB fix is Ok for 5-6 image/day edit. But when have as on Real Estate a lot to process, is not good. So, we need a fast and good method to fix WB - have real colors not, comercial colors. Do you have it?

Is an infrared workflow dependent on the filter fitted to the camera (say a 590nm or 850nm)?
@robshea
@robshea 9 ай бұрын
Infrared filters from 550 to 750 nm can use the same color workflow. With filters 750 nm and higher, the resulting image will be monochrome and you can use any black-and-white workflow..

The question I have here is: What software does Rob Shea use 🙂
@robshea
@robshea 9 ай бұрын
I primarily use Lightroom Classic. A few years ago, I started receiving questions about other raw editors. I was curious, so I decided to start testing other raw editors for use in infrared. I'm re-reviewing most of those editors now and preparing a big round-up.
