The title got it right. The problem with adding “more housing” is that developers will add more UNAFFORDABLE housing. Here in California where I live there are tons of apartments for rent, but they’re extremely high prices, and people can either not afford them, or can barely afford them. We have an affordable housing crisis. I’d be fine with never owning a home if I could comfortably rent, and live in a dense, walkable area. I plan on moving to Vancouver, and when I visited the most disappointing thing was how spread out it was. It’s near impossible to live on your own making minimum wage if you have ANY expenses other than rent, and that’s a problem. Can’t convince the American single-family home owners to live in an apartment though. everyone wants to own their own house, their own car, have their own yard, their own backyard, everything. It’s just inefficient in the long term. We’re all gonna die some day so I really don’t care about owning a house lmao

Yes, high apartment rent prices is certainly an issue the community is facing. Some people want to rent, and others want to own, and that is ok!

This is why it's so important to get rid of these strict government regulations on zoning laws, like the current one that only allows single family homes on large plots. If we want to lower the cost of housing, we need to build a lot more, build denser, allow ADUs, and build different types of housing. Allowing cafes, restaurants, grocery stores, and other amenities in neighborhoods will also make the communities better and more easily accessible to people.

What's up Jason! Yeah Clark County and the state are definitly pushing for more dense zoning, so that is the direction they are headed. As for ADUS, I get that request a ton these days. Our laws regarding this are not quite as open as Seattle and Portland, but they are trending in that direction. In rural areas you must have an attached ADU. In urban areas, you can build a detached ADU. Costs to build however are still high. Personally I would love to see more ADUs.

The state makes all these rules and regulations to make it harder to build homes. In turn, it makes the price of homes already built skyrocket. In the end the state gets a massive increase in tax revenues.

It does indeed make it harder and more costly to build homes!
