There is a bit of a Tour de France vibe to this great idea Nick. Every stage of the tour we get to see the castles and surrounding areas using an aerial view. It's really cool. Really looking forward to this new series. 👍

Hey, Nick. Just got back from 4 weeks in Portugal visiting my friends from decades ago. I was lucky enough to stay in fantastic country houses (for free!!) near Tomar (Chaos and Seiça). I'm with you about living in the countryside. Beautiful and calming as it is, it would be difficult for a city person to settle there. Got my fix of hustle and bustle for a week in Parede (Lisbon), though, for me, Lisbon has gone way too touristic now.

Beautifully shot and narrated, thank you. We live on the Algarve but have been tempted by this area because properties are super cheap, there are a lot of 'alternative' people, and there is a Clonlara school opening in Idanha-da-Nova (awaiting a license from the Ministry of Education). That said, the small town mentality you mention is rife, and can be difficult, the weather can be challenging, and it's so far from the ocean, as again you mention. Given your interest in education (BGA), perhaps you could interview the folks behind the Clonlara school. Thanks Nick, great episode.

Beautiful area and i certainly understand why people would love to live there. But I am with you Nick, I'll enjoy it all on short trips. Its not for me to live there. I think the castle tour is a great idea for a video series. I think youll get many more views as people visiting every part of the country can use it for short day trips away from their vacation bases.

I could be tempted to live in an area like this *as long as* I could find a well insulated house (from the winter chill and the summer heat). As I commented in your last video, cold outside temperatures in winter don’t bother me, especially if it’s sunny (in fact cold, sunny days are the best days) - just put a warm coat on, problem solved - but I wouldn’t want to spend a cold winter in a badly insulated house with not much heating. It’s hard to ignore the huge gulf in property prices compared to the Algarve. Having said that, I’ve never been to this part of Portugal. I plan to go back to Portugal in October (ish) so maybe I’ll have some time to explore it myself this time and to see how it feels to me.

If you're buying you can always insulate it yourself.
