With the x6 and x8 when plugged into camera, can you have the unit put a sound maker at the start and finsh of the recording for easy sinking in post?

Does anyone know if this has the same ultrasonic issues that the X8 has? The latest firmware update did not fix it. i would like to know for sure before I buy one. Thanks.

Unsure but probably still an issue, which is why it only goes up to 96khz not 192khz like the X8.

How CLEAN are the preamps? Because, obviously, if you have to crank the gain in post, the NOISE FLOOR also comes up. This does not go well on the ZOOM H4 series due to their very noisy preamps.

Great video. I see quite a few amp heads in the background including the Marshall. My goal is to record high gain guitar into my SM57’s into this recorder. Other devices clipped so badly they were unusable. I tried devices which were video cameras and onboard recorders. None of those worked well. Have you recorded high gain amplifier output into this using the XLR inputs?
@Ozpeter2 жыл бұрын
3:49 - the 32 bits helps avoid digital clipping, but an overloaded preamp can't benefit from that - the analog clipping will be very accurately recorded... likewise analog hiss from the preamps if the gain is too low. I think we have to be careful not to overstate the (undoubted) benefits of 32 bit. Is there any built in support for MS mics - so that, for instance, you could monitor in normal stereo while while recording mid and side on the XLR inputs? This would be mandatory for many video people.

I use mainly X8 without its microphones, so I extracted them. Unfortunately X6 have fixed mics, it's only possible turn round XY - AB position, but no extraction. So, length of X8 without mics and X6 with mics is more or less the same.

Thanks for the video. Two things hit my ears, can you please confirm. You said that the aux in input has plug in power. Is it the case? In the X8 that input does not supply power to external mics. Also, on the X8, if you use this input, you lose XLR5 and 6. How about the X6? Can you configure inputs so that this aux in takes over the inbuilt mics but keeps the two XLR ports free for external devices? The other thing you mentioned is that the X6 can be used as an interface with Android or iOS devices. The X8 does not seem to work this way with smartphones. Have they improved on this aspect then? I hope they will fix it on the X8 eventually then.

Solid rundown of features and this is a great little unit. That said, I wouldn't really call it an affordable alternate to the X8 since the price difference is only about $40 at current pricing. Given where the X8 is in the market and taking into account that it dropped in price 4-5 months after release I would be very hesitant to pick this up until late summer. If this were priced $100 less, I'd snap it up immediately. Still, great little unit. I'm shocked at how slow ZOOM is in releases a replacement for the H2n that has 32-bit. They have missed out big time on the $300-400 portable market.

Yep, not having the combo jacks is a deal breaker for home studio + you would have thought the top mic's would have been screw out replaceable. (Sharing common parts across the Portacapture range would have been cheaper and more practical I think) ah well...
@ZiSlepovitch Жыл бұрын
End users' priorities and interests ≠ shareholders' priorities and interests I wouldn't mind having those replacement mics for X8 selling for, say, $90 / pair, let alone the obvious: these mics should have been made out of metal on metal rubberized connectors (or similar) in the first place and not be so fragile and prone to breaking (out of interest, look up how many used X8s are on sale without attached mics). But have you seen replacement mic for X8 around? Me neither. No wonder they eliminated replaceable mic in X6: they can charge you even more to repair it. Wondering what TASCAM support will charge for those when inquired - unless they will tell you to mail in the device for in-house repair at an exorbitant price... Because - see top of this comment.

HI. Great Video! Excuse my English, I use an automatic translator. I would like you to help me understand something that could be a big problem if I purchased the TAscam the possibility of falling back to 24 Bit? Until now I am used to working with ZOOM's economical and entry level product, i.e. the H1-N, which gives me the possibility of working at 196 khz and 24 Bit; now I would like to move to a higher quality, but not to the point of being forced to use 32 Bit, since my computer and software don't allow me to do so. At this point, perhaps, I don't know, I'll ask you further: would it be worth buying a Zooom H5? They tell me it's inferior to the TASCAM X6, but if I can't use 32 bits with the Tascam, then I'd be screwed. How could I do? what do you think?
