@@richbiles230872 why thank you, kind sir. I think their road car division is doing great (upcoming Purosangue notwithstanding) except 2 conflicting models in the F8 and the 488 Pista. Their V8 engine have won multiple engine of the year awards and their V12 is just spectacular. No complaints on the transmission, Vehicle Dynamics or the chassis front either. But I'd love to know the reasoning behind your opinion.
@richbiles2308724 жыл бұрын
I agree with all of your points. However, I fear for their future. Firstly, the California was essentially a badge engineered car and made for, what I consider, to be cynical marketing reasons to increase their customer base. A sign of things to come? And now Ferrari is to build (I feel nauseus writing this) an SUV. I've heard lots of rumours regarding the dismay and anger that dyed in the wool Ferrari personnel have felt after reacting to their master's (Fiat) Ferrari road plan. Enzo must be turning in his grave. I'm not one of its biggest fans but it's sad to contemplate the distinct possibility that Ferrari will never create a car as mad as the F40 again.
@richbiles2308724 жыл бұрын
@@subarnosinha8042 one more thing just to illustrate my (possibly pathological) hatred of Ferrari's risible marketing; they claim the prancing horse emblem/logo symbol was chosen by Enzo because of his admiration for an Italian fighter pilot war hero (the Red Baron?). The alternative story was he chose it because the prancing horse is the emblem of both Stuttgart, Porsche's home and the automotive manufacture. At the time Enzo founded Scuderia Ferrari Porsche were (and still are to this day) the most prolific and successful racing car manufacturer in the world. His admiration of Ferdinand Porsche, the automotive engineer, the man himself and his car company was no secret. Which version do you believe?

I looked at an Exige / Evora but in the end went for the Cayman GTS (the 6c, 3.4). On paper and the price of the Cayman is very much a sports car but the looks and the sound seem to say otherwise. I'm a car enthusiast but all my neighbours and non-car friends think I've bought a £100k supercar. I get countless comments and it really stands out in your typical car park. Thought I'd highlight this just incase anybody else is looking for a semi-supercar or a halfway house. Also, when buying my car I got a bit bogged down with youtube videos, reviews and browsing auto trader. It's easy to become deluded and disconnected from reality. So trust me, if you buy a Cayman or an Evora, if it's your first car of that sort then I expect it'll feel like a supercar either way.
@claudedickson98594 жыл бұрын
The Evora is best thought of as an alternative to an older exotic. Compare the Evora to a Ferrari 360. Cost to acquire is about the same, depending on the mileage of the 360. But the Evora would be MUCH cheaper to maintain and drive and easily the better daily driver. Compared to a manual 430, the Evora is a bargain.

Good review. JayEmm. I bought my white Lotus evora 400. And agree with everything you said, least favorite feature is the seats. But then your dealing with recovering the leather costs to match interior on a different seat. Also I was surprise to find the gas/brake pedal to atad to close. brake pedal should be atad higher than gas pedal. So took the alum pad off of gas pedal to lower. One could cut invert gas pedal pad to get another 1/2”. Brake pedal travels down before engaging. Even after full 4 corner bleed, Was surprised that there is no adjustment for brake pedal height. With lotus speciality being track use. At the end of the day exactly what you said. Most evora 400 people want a simpler process in footbox. To love the car for its handling. Looks, great exhaust and improved interior. I actually found the pedal better on the lotus evora s. Which oddly had a smaller footbox. So funny thing is on the 400 - they could of nailed it. Also find the footrest to left of clutch in the way. Better if not there. Maybe this is a US car thing. Since left hand drive. I’m investigation how to remove footrest box. No luck on info. Even my 94 Rx7 has adjustment for clutch and brake pedal height. So Lotus is funny extreme on some things -but miss the equation mark on others. But as you said so many other things to love. So one needs to invest more money/time to make perfect, which as you said needs to be that way out of the box. Love to get your opinion of lotus exige 380 a full drive and cabin comfort or a lotus evora S model seat and footbox comparison with lotus 400. I did see your other comparison but seems to not talk footbox much. If ever in these parts. And have time look me up. Bojoe777@gmail.com or I can telephone number. Hi JayEmm, great work, please let me add a comment regarding the "Camry-Engine": nobody mentioned ever the most important technical fact, why this Toyota/Lexus engine is best suited for a true sports car: this 3.456 cc V6 has a bore of 94mm and a stroke of 83mm, what means it is a real hi-rev sports engine, with its bore being larger than its stroke, by definition. Surprisingly, the BMW M2/M3/M4 or the VW Golf GTI have just the opposite, a larger stroke than their bore, which means they derive from pedestrian everyday cars (which we knew, but still worth mentioning) and they are not designed to rev high whatsoever - they all only play with the turbo.

@@JayEmmOnCars they may do well (I did not know that) - but this bore/stroke ratio fact might be worth mentioning in your videos for people who have difficulties accepting the "Camry engine" in a true sports car. I do have a question, too: I found a brand new, 3km driven, but Mid-2016-built Evora 400 Gulf Heritage livery here in Germany in a professional collector´s garage. It is a genuinely new car, smells like new, plastic foils are there everywhere, it is beautiful. I could buy it for about 90.000 Euros - it has been standing still for 4 years now. Or, I could buy a 2020-model (or even 2021 now) Evora GT410 or even GT410Sport for about the same money, in any colour except the Gulf livery. Which is the better (quality) car overall: a 2016-built but brand new Evora 400 or a 2020/2021 Evora GT410(Sport), for the same money? Thanks in advance, best regards, Balazs (Frankfurt/Main)

@coreyshamilton4 жыл бұрын
Aftermarket intake fixes that. Plenty of whine then!
@JayEmmOnCars4 жыл бұрын
K&N intake fixes that and with the exhaust in quiet mode there is plenty of whine inside the car

JayEmm on Cars, good to know. Hearing the supercharger screaming away always makes me smile when I plant my foot down. It’s childish, but I can’t help it. Glad to know it’s there.

Are these Lotuses actually reliable? Let's say 8k miles a year, 5-10 TDs, 3 year period. What actually breaks?
@yachtrock83994 жыл бұрын
Depends on the year. Overall as stated in the video it's small things which go wrong that aren't expensive compared to Ferrari, but are frustrating. In almost every Evora you will have A/C issues, interior rattles, and minor exterior trim panels cracking. Some years have issues with wiring harnesses causing weird electrical problems. The parts that count are made well, and they are fantastically engineered cars with a much different feel from Porsche/BMW. However there are a lot of small things they cheaped out on which have to be dealt with over time.

@@yachtrock8399 Right so you get in the car and it could break at any time leading to a fault that will cost significant amounts to diagnose... It's not sounding great.

@yachtrock83994 жыл бұрын
@@moimoi4725 All well and good, but if you track threads on Lotus forums, there have been as many as 8 concurrent AC issues threads running at once. The 400 made significant improvements on many of the previous issues, but they can still happen and aren't always cheap to have them fixed. I had your experience as well with my S model, and would have agreed with you until my AC, brake switch, A Pillar trim, and Sail panel trim failed within a month of each other. All are considered known and common issues. Out of warranty the dealers want exhorbitant amounts of money to fix them. The known issues may not seem a big deal to some, and they don't happen as often on the 400 and up. But they can and do happen frequently enough that it shouldn't be ignored. An NA or S model can eat you up in repair costs out of nowhere, and if the 400 drops a supercharger out of warranty, you're looking at a massive bill to set it right.
@ghaniabid4 жыл бұрын
I watched this video then watched back your 'SOLD' video. In that video you sounded utterly fed up with Lotus as a company and understandably moved on before the warranty on your Evora ran out. I also came across an article you wrote for Drive Tribe where you compared the Evora (reluctantly) with a Cayman GT4,. The GT 4 's went north with their prices and still sits at £70k compared to £50k for the same year Evora 400. An interesting question, since affordability is in the title, would you take a £35K Cayman S, over the £50k Evora 400 of the same age and mileage?
@JayEmmOnCars4 жыл бұрын
A Cayman GT4 was only a good buy if you were the first owner - otherwise you could have lost about £40-50k on one. The Evora did depreciate but in a more predictable way. These days, tough call. I do like both cars

Really contemplating on whether to get an Evora S or a 400.... Just is the huge price difference between the S and 400 worth it...?
@ThorburnJ4 жыл бұрын
I looked at an S Sport Racer before buying this 400 - for me it was worth it as I preferred the more aggressive setup, noise, chargecooler, etc. If I was doing more long distance driving the S would be a good option.

@@sonicsabbath You probably want a 400 with the better auto box, for that scenario.
@techyd84114 жыл бұрын
For longer distance driving I’d actually say S1 n/a as the ride is a degree more compliant from the S with the 400 a former setup again. The current new GT410 (not the GT410 Sport) is I am told back to N/A suppleness as they have fitted touring dampers... If you’re choosing between S and 400 I would say 400, I prefer the interior of the S but the yellow consumption compared to 400 is pretty poor, the charge cooler really helps with temp management. Unfort I no longer have my S, I’ll be getting an Evora again for sure but it will be a 400 or 410!

Not convinced at all about the looks of the new evora. The original Evora when it launched in... 2008? 2009? looked absolutely beautiful, the lines going up to the roof and to the back are fantastic. Best looking post-Elise lotus. I saw one of these brand new on the road last week and just looked a bit tacky. And supercars are all about looks so I don't think this is a budget supercar.
