A lot of people bust on these. I love mine. Compared to a UV5R, the programming is simple. The repeater I use is 27 miles away. I can easily hit it on low power. I never use anything but low on this because of the auxiliary jack. Most of the time, if you can't hit a repeater on low, high won't make much difference. Doubling the power doesn't even come close to doubling the distance.

I bought one of these just to give it a shot. It has a lot of great features, and even has potential for satellite operations. After receiving it, I turned it on and listened for a while and used it to check into a net. I did not notice the fan run while it was in use, and I was trying to pay attention. How often do you notice the fan run on yours? Thank you

I have not noticed mine kick it either, but I also found out both of my BJ-318's are faulty and only output 1-2W (even set to high power) on VHF, so that could be why the fan doesn't kick in. Curious if you were on VHF or UHF and whether you have tested yours on a power meter for VHF? Also, if you just checked into the net and were not talking extensively, it might not have got heated up enough for the fan to kick in.

Good review. Looks like a nice little rig. After you use it a while let us know how it is on intermod. Some of the Chinese radios have difficulty with that, especially in rf rich environments. N9QIL
