Affordable Homemade Solar Filter for Your Camera Lens!

Both are DIY options so the question is, do you use a mounted filter or a cardboard hat? I explain the differences and why they're both useful and when.
One bit of advice I didn't mention in the video is that you can use tape to fix the zoom and focus of the lens in place so that it stays static when you remove and add the threaded filter onto your lens.
Second bit of advice, I don't show it in the video but you can use black tape, paint, or anything opaque to wrap around the seams of the eclipse filter tube to make sure there is no light leak. I always forget that step until I do my testing!

I bought an 8x8 sheet of thousand oak solar filter material. Made a filter for my 102mm refractor, 3 inches, 2 filters for my 50mm binoculars, one filter for my 50mm finder scope, and filter yo cover the front of my rigel quik finder. All for 15 dollars and labor and odds and ends . Conversely, I ordered one for my W.O. 80mm refractor. 114 dollars.

Nice! This is the most cost effective way to do this. And wow! $114 for an 80mm filter is crazy. I'm sure it's really good though.

These are not homemade. It calls for a Solar Sheet which you cannot make at home.

That is correct, solar sheets cannot be made at home, nor should anyone attempt it. However, you can make affordable alternatives to expensive filters by getting the parts seperarately and putting them together.

So I can’t use the solar glass because the solar sheets are sold out everywhere for me but I have a bunch of solar glass
