Could you do a comparison video on building your own gaming headset using higher quality relatively inexpensive headphones combined with 3.5mm boom or in-line microphone cables? I recently put down my Sennheiser PC 37Xs for a pair of Philips SHP9500s combined with the V-Moda BoomPro microphone cable. I got the SHP9500s on sale for about $60 USD, and the BoomPro mic was around $28 USD, and the combination is easily comparable if not even better/more comfortable than my PC 37Xs. As far as I can tell, the BoomPro mic is also comparable to Sennheiser's. I have received zero complaints from teammates when gaming for extended periods of time (3+ hours in a sitting). Sound cards and other DAC/Amp audio solutions also make a HUGE difference at these price points as many on-board audio solutions and drivers make inexpensive or mid-range headsets just sound atrocious. Even just a $100 internal sound card like the Creative SoundBlaster Z or a simple external Class T amp by the likes of SMSL (like $60-90) can amplify the signal enough to make your cheap equipment sound much better. Maybe another video idea = inexpensive headphone amp that really improve audio quality for those best bang-for-the-buck headphones and headsets. Maybe less than $130-150 total audio solution?

If you aren't really safe with the hs50's,the plastic part that covers the adjustment part breaks easily and after a few months the clamping force drastically lowers. Also your ears touch the drivers which becomes quite uncomfortable after an hour or so,and gunk gets in the mesh on the sides.

Hey Dmitry, really like your review videos. Would like to ask if you made comment on the microphone quality listening to them directly through the headset (I mean like for example commenting on the Sennheiser's mic listening to the sound drivers from same Sennheiser headset) or have you pre-recorded all the microphones sound and then listening to all of them from only 1 headphone/monitoring speakers, maybe like a referencing headphone. Don't get me wrong, I really think your opinions on the microphone quality are 100% on-point, just wondering how do you compare the microphones so accurately.

I am both a passionate gamer and a music enthousiast. Sound is a big deal, as you won't buy a 50$ monitor... One has to put what needs to be for quality. An AKG K702 is about 120$ and nothing can compare to this pure clean professionnal quality. Modmic it if you really need a mic like that, or use a nice external microphone like a Yeti Snowball which costs less and has no flaw, be it for voice chat or voice over and you have the best audio quality one can buy for far less $ than those "pay the brand" sponsors "gaming" whatnots.

many people choose to use regular headphones that have a detachable cable to attach their own microphone to. a common example this is the philips shp9500 with the v moda boom pro microphone. that’ll run you about $115 in the U.S. tho. it’s just that when you’re in the $100 price range for a good gaming audio setup, going for a headset is pointless when you can get a good headphone and a good microphone for the same price, whereas you’re most likely compromising on audio quality and mic quality on a headset. محمد السعدي

To be honest: In my opinion I would never get something else than a HyperX Cloud standard wired headset in ANY price range, unless you plan to listen to music while doing NOTHING else. It sounds great, the mic is ok and for very different tonality you can swap out pads like crazy. If you can cheaply source brainwavz sheepskin pads from somewhere you can even get a nice balanced sound with a pretty wide soundstage for a closed back headphone. If you really want to step up your game get serious and buy headphones for at least 150-200 bucks. Everything below will most likely be more of a "sidegrade" than an upgrade and just isn't worth the extra amount of money, especially not in the headset market. Until Audeze Mobius arrives at my doorstep and proves to be awesome I would never recommend "high end" headsets period. Sennheisers have not been stellar price to performance wise and beyerdynamics is toooo "special" in it's tuning to be more than just a glorified device for gaming only. The Clouds are good value for the money, even for headphones in general and for a real upgrade just save up your money for a few months or years and get a good headphone with a decent Dac&Amp combo.
@Kill0rbAg6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but I disagree. The audiophile market in itself is a very niche market and we saw with Audeze and (sadly) Ossic X that the demand for this is not low. And to be honest, I don't see how the price is too high in relation to the market it targets. Quite the opposite actually. You get a Bluetooth headphone with LDAC a detachable mic, a somewhat public friendly design, a 3D function that is reportedly superb and to top it of a 100 mm Planar driver with Fazors. I don't see how these are features that most people will never use or the broad audio and gamer market doesn't care about. Quite the opposite actually, it's more like the ultimate crowd pleaser. LDAC will automatically be used via Android, most people nowadays that don't have a clue about anything want Bluetooth in general and the headset function including the 3D Audio is exactly what the gamer market wants, top it off with a probably high end sound (as far as closed headphones are concerned) and you have far more to offer than Sennheiser or Beyer in the same price bracket. I'm still fearful of the sound quality though, since I'm a bit skeptical about the Cipher DAC&DSP solution including the fact you won't be able to use your own audio chain but I'm open for it and looking at Audezes track record the worry is slight at best.

Why not just get some monoprice modern retros and a detachable modmic, it will be a lot better than all of these headsets.
