Militias in the Panjsher Valley are mounting the largest, and possibly last, resistance against Taliban rule in Afghanistan. The armed groups have vowed to keep the Taliban out of their province - an area that historically resisted the Taliban the last time it was in power and became a staging ground for Northern Alliance fighters.

@@cadler5885 only way for civil war not to happen is taliban to rule completely differently, more inclusive to other Afghani tribes and less islamic. But that's not gonna happen. They clearly stated over and over again that they want islamic country. Civil war is only question of when not if. Thing is tho that thanks to USA talibans are now equipped like never before..so this war will be in vain. I am afraid they will take over Panjsher Valley too coz of all the equipment. Remember Taliban of today is equipped with latest weaponry compared to early 2000s. Also China will back Talibans up so they won't be isolated struggling with economy etc..so tthey will be able to use more funds for eliminating resistance.

This time the situation is much worse then under the last Taliban rule. The US used this region to attack and defeat the Taliban the last time , so the Taliban sees it as a big security weakness. The Taliban are much better equiped this time. More motivated to take it down. Have got them surrounded and the supply cut off. It will not take long, if the resistance doesn't get help.

My careful analysis is that they can just stay 8 to 14 hours. Battles normally starts before an hour before the dawn. Then around 11am to 12 decide the battlefield position. While Taliban are attackers so they will decide the time. Panjsheris are defenders, they will get tired easily.

Many of the former Afghan special forces are now in the Panshir Valley. They are US trained and are passing along their knowledge to the others. The problem with the Afghan army was not training rather it was corruption in the leadership, poor pay, low moral, and being under resourced. The problem with the US support was that much of the money was wasted by contractors and corruption. That is where the US messed up

I would want to correct that... there is nothing wrong with the US training, the Afghan special forces, trained by the Americans are great soldiers. However, it is like blaming a doctor who works with alcoholics, train them and try to get them on their own feet, saying that when person X fell back into alcoholism, it was THE DOCTRO´s BAD TRAINING. The doctor can have the best training in the world, but if an alcoholic don´t have the will to change, that training won´t help!

I guess the Soviet did that during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, I believe the Taliban did that during their rise to power until the US invasion of 2001... but Panjshir during its long history of wars and sieges has never been conquered..
