If you stay back like Tanaka tells you, he’ll start talking to the officers in Japanese, and they’ll leave you alone. Of course, you’ll end up killing them anyways later. But I always listened to Tanaka. He’s a real pal.

fun Singaporean trivia: while the layout is fictional, judging by the location in game, your mission starts off at Beach Road and you make your way towards Arab Street (as evidenced from the Sultan Mosque at 15:29). you eventually stop at what appears to be Raffles Hotel (which has a similar structure design and layout to the actual building) for the Axis Summit.

This mission has stunning similarities to a mission in Medal of Honor: Frontline. An officer in heart boxers informing everyone your an impostor. A chef trying to kill you. The devs of Frontline must've loved this mission.

This was always my favorite mission in the game by far, but I’ve only recently realized something that makes it even more interesting. I never actually understood what Shima was planning when I was younger. The most I could gather was that he was obviously motivated by greed and gold, but then I realized that what he’s actually proposing is the overthrow of both Hitler and Stalin’s regimes. Kandler and Borov, then, are traitors to their dictatorial regimes back home who have risked everything for this plan to succeed. I know we wanted to gather intel on the summit but...did we really have to stop them? The war could’ve been all but over on the western front by 1943 without Hitler and Stalin in charge. I kind of get the feeling Shima was planning a coup in Japan too, he would’ve had to know that once Germany was defeated, Japan would be next, so he would need to quickly consolidate power and negotiate a settlement with the allies. Of course we’ll never know now. But still...it‘a a really intriguing alternative history possibility

The only way this scheme could have possibly helped the Japanese is if the new German regime continued to fight the Western allies. Otherwise, all Shima has accomplished is freeing up 80 percent of Americas war effort for use in the Pacific.

It’s a one shot kill 95% of the time, even if you shoot them in the midsection. Very good for getting the drop on enemies, which is what it’s designed for. When I got compromised, I would always switch to the Colt.

Interestingly the Welrod is supposed to be a bolt action pistol that uses a detachable magazine, it's not supposed to be a single shot weapon like it is in the game

I find Rising Sun unique because it's set in a part of World War II that's not normally explored that being the Pacific theatre, Rising Sun was actually one of the most underrated games in the series

I have no clue why they made the Welrod a single-shot. Historically it had a magazine in the handle, you just had to cycle the bolt after each shot like a bolt-action rifle and it'd load the next round. I think it had like a 10-round capacity. EDIT: So, when I was a kid I never understood what the hell they were talking about at the summit, but I almost wish they didn't have the real German guy come and ruin your cover so you could work as an agent on the inside, helping the Japanese take out Stalin and Hitler - only to then cross the Japanese and expose them.

I guess it was probably done for balance reasons but IRL the Welrod was a repeating pistol, and had a 8 round magazine. Then again it was also known to be very finicky with feeding each round so single-loading may be the better option

I play this game till the end of the server went down. I still miss it till now :( i tried to mod the game with ps2 emulator and manage to connect to my own matchmaker server. But i couldnt manage to send a server list. Its still a project i hope to get working in the future
