That's funny because all my friends thought I was weird too. We probably had a completely different demographic of friends but one of the wonderful things about music is it is a bridge. You and I may or may not have any other music we both like, but for this one song, we know we can slap high fives and enjoy the groove. Me and my aforementioned friends are bunch of white dudes who listened to metal, southern rock and some country. I know this song is considered hard rock or something in that neighborhood, but the looks of the lead singer wearing makeup, his hair, the almost bubble gum pop sound to their music is what my friends frowned upon. I was undeterred though and unapologetic. I didn't give a shit how the band looked. I just liked the music. The beat and the rhythm of this song pulled me in and I couldn't resist - and didn't want to. To me, hearing a great new song is comparable to a seeing a beautiful new watch. I know I love a new watch as soon as I see it, and I know I love a great song as soon as I hear it. Here's to hoping I see a comment of yours on another song we both like here on youtube. Cheers!

Everyone goes through the occasional phase. I, myself went through a Goth phase about halfway through high school. I've learned 2 lessons from it: 1) These phases can (and usually do) help you discover who you are, over time. 2) They tend to open your mind to new ideas, cultures, art, etc. - essentially broadening your perspective. In my case, it helped me exhume a part of myself that I concealed & buried when I was about 6 or 7 because I was very different from Everyone around me and knew I'd become a target if I didn't "blend in".
@erikurizita2 жыл бұрын
I was a goth all through my middle and high school years. I didn't wear all black, but my mentality was one in the same, so I got lumped with them. it taught me to never turn someone away cuz their different, and to appreciate what I had, because there are people with less. and the gothic kids already thought we had so little as is. Then those weird ass Emo kids came in and destroyed Gothic as a group. Now everyone things Goth and Emo are similar. Goths are fixated on death because it comes for us all, we were usually kids who experienced adult situations as children, or who were forced to grow up early. Emo is just a phase kids go through when they realize they ugly and love isn't blind and wanna kill themselves over it. Nothing like a Goth.
@L.Alchemy2 жыл бұрын
@@erikurizita That's one of the reasons I ultimately rejected labels unless it serves some purpose. Trend followers present a poor image out of their need for attention, while those of us who simply embrace who we are have to waste time & energy combatting any association with that sort. I almost feel sorry for them bc they still haven't figured out who they are, and are desperately grasping for identity & validation. If it weren't for the fact that I spent so long hiding those parts of myself, I doubt I'd feel any empathy for the majority of them.
@jillianoconnell92512 жыл бұрын
I was a hippie. A Hip hopper.. Gothchick, Alterna-angsty-Courtney Love, Club kid at Limelight n Tunnel,. All those eras have a part of my soul. You can be all those parts.. Why do u worry about labels? Free ur mind and don't judge fit in to a certain label. I have this wonderful freedom of not giving any fucks what anyone thinks of me. Once you stop defining urself and others it's beautiful. I am all these personalities, and still me.. I love all these different music genres, the fact that I feel like Joan Jett one day and Stevie Nicks the next and on and on . No one can put me in a category and I love that.

My family and I first heard this song at the Hard Rock Cafe while travelling from Texas to Florida in November 2007. My son was 9 at the time, I was 36. Now, at 21 and 48, we still jam to it.

I turned 30 this year, but I still belted out, 3:34 like I'm 14 years old with high school in the morning. I'm glad this kind of music is starting to come back around now, there was a decade of pop drowning out power, chords and making everything sound so generic, reused, and tired. I know everyone nowadays says this, but God I am happy to be a 90s kid.

Lyrics: This is what I brought you this you can keep, this is what I brought you may forget me. I promised to depart just promise one thing, kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep. This is what I brought you this you can keep, this is what I brought you may forget me. I promise you my heart just promise to sing, kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep. Ohoh ohoh ohoh ohoh ohoh kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep (Ohoh ohoh) This is what I thought, I thought you need me, this is what I thought so think me naive, I promise you a heart you promised to keep, kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep. kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep. Hey, miss murder, can I Hey, miss murder, can I Make beauty stay if I Take my life? With just a look they shook And heavens bowed before him Simply a look can break your heart The stars that pierce the sky He left them all behind We're left to wonder why He left us all behind Hey, miss murder, can I Hey, miss murder, can I Make beauty stay if I Take my life? Dreams of his crash won't pass Oh, how they all adored him Beauty will last when spiraled down The stars that mystify He left them all behind And how his children cry He left us all behind Hey, miss murder, can I Hey, miss murder, can I Make beauty stay if I Take my life? What's the hook, the twist within this verbose mystery? I would gladly bet my life upon it. That the ghost you love, your ray of light will fizzle out Without hope Hope We're the empty set just floating through wrapped, in skin Ever searching for what we were promised Reaching for that golden ring we'd never let go Who would ever let us put our filthy hands upon it? Hey, miss murder, can I Hey, miss murder, can I Make beauty stay if I Take my life? Hey, miss murder, can I Hey, miss murder, can I Make beauty stay if I Take my life?

My husband introduced me to AFI back in 2007, when we first met: "There is a band you need to listen to, AFI, Sing the Sorrow, listen to that album!", and I did and realized I had seen this band on TV before (Miss Murder), the imagery in the video stayed with me. You know, back when TV used to be a thing for being introduced to new music lol. My husband just gushed about this band and that album (he actually went to the same clubs as these guys and hung around the same crowds, my husband said Davey was super nice when he met him). I think Decemberunderground and a couple of years later Crash Love were the two albums I would listen to a lot while writing my first novel. And drew some illustrations to their music as well. Good times ♥ I mean, I still do. Just recently started listening to their discography again on regular basis ♥ Just wish some of their vinyl pressings were more available. Dropping 500e on an album is just not something I can do right now. Hope you have a good year 2021! I am so happy you came across this song as well ♥

The Answer That through Shut Your Mouth era was just straight in your face hardcore punk. Their style didn't start to shift until Jade Puget came into the fold. Their golden era to me was Black Sails, Art of Drowning, and the All Hallows EP. Sing the Sorrow was okay in its own right. It was different, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I mean, it was 2003. But, when Decemberunderground came out, they had completely lost touch with their roots and gone way too far into the pop side. That was kind of the beginning of the end of AFI for me. They haven't really put out a spectacular album since Sing the Sorrow.
