I mainly play black and thrash metal styling and Jades compositions, play style, use of melody with aggression and intricate work has been such a deep influence on my own playing, especially the late 90’s - early 00’s compositions. People may not realize it, but his influence is felt by far more than just a few in the extreme metal community. The man is a true craftsman.

Same. I play proggy death metal and there's honestly a lot to learn from his compositions around this time

This comment here! I have been a huge AFI fan since this EP came out in 1999, and my brother borrowed it and their back catalogue from a classmate who loved them. My brother was a guitarist and learned how to play this and a few others off Black Sails and Art Of Drowning. Seeing Jade's use of barre chord variants and using sometimes all 6 strings for a chord just gave AFI's 1999-00 records a beautiful, haunting, complex, rich, atmospheric, ambient quality that was just so perfect for the songs. Jade's work since then is far more refined, elegant, and tasteful than the older stuff, but he still showcases his talents in numerous ways on the guitar. Pink Eyes is one off the Blood Album I really dig his work on, kind of a nod to his hardcore roots in late-90s AFI and before.

I remember when I first started learning guitar. Maybe a year or two in I felt confident enough to get away from super basic things so I got tabs for a bunch of AFI songs from Sing the Sorrow because they sounded relatively simple. Man, let me tell you AFI songs are not easy...like at all. Even 12 years of guitar later I still think a lot of their songs are hard as shit to play.
@reynutz3 жыл бұрын
You might need to practice more, not even a diss. I've been playin since '04 and I'm just barely learning how to correctly play a lot of punk tunes I grew up with. Practice everyday man, you got these songs. NO PROBLEM.

Them barre chords had my hand HURTING when I was learning AFI lmao I always respected Jade for his technique and ability to mimic both leads and rhythm live; not easy at all to learn but very good at practicing and building stamina

Sometimes it’s not about how much you practice - playing this kind of stuff is hard and sometimes need the proper guidance. Other guitars players or maybe take a couple of lessons. Bad habits can really inhibit your ability to strum/pick quickly.

Heck yea, I've always loved AFI and Jade is a huge reason why. I remember when he first joined the band, I was pretty nervous actually because I really loved what Mark was doing with the band but Jade just made band so much more complete and helped make AFI stick out from a lot of their contemporaries by doing so much more than power chord riffs. He can solo, his rhythms are spot on and inventive, even his chord voicings a great.
