I worked with Angela in " Gypsy " when I was just twelve years old. The lady you see in this , is exactly how she is on or off the stage. She sat me on her knee in her dressing room and is just the most lovely person.

What a beautiful and gracious lady. I love her . She continues to give to us and how little we have given back. I would love to see her. It is sad that we have to grow old but it does not seem to hurt her as she continues to bring joy to each of us. God Bless her and keep her safe and healthy. May she live for a long time.

From the moment I saw her in Gaslight, I knew she is already a big star. Then, I realized later that she was Jessica Fletcher, Mrs. Potts and so many other memorable characters. I feel the reason why Miss Angela Lansbury is precious to us audiences is that she was a part of our childhood growing up and lives as adults. For decades, she shared her abilities, talents and generosity without compromise. A true representation of the great entertainers of the Golden Age of cinema and stage. RIP Miss Lansbury is surely missed.

Even though I was born in 99, when this era of Disney movies was basically over, all of the oldies are my favourites (Beauty and the Beast being #1) Nothing can compare to the beauty of hand drawn and hand painted animation. No matter how good movies like Tangled/Frozen look, it's the authentic, pure look of the old school Disney movies that will live in peoples hearts for the longest ❤

BEST era of Disney is like she said, when these movies came out. Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Jungle book, Tarzan. I grew up with those movies and I still love those the best. Pre 2000.

In fact, DUMBO was the last Disney animated film to win an Oscar (1941) until THE LITTLE MERMAID (1989), which set off the Disney Renaissance. TLM won two Oscars (Score and Song, "Under The Sea"). The four films to follow (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, ALADDIN, THE LION KING, POCAHONTAS) also won in these categories. A Disney film didn't win again until TARZAN (1999) took home the Best Song Oscar. Then with the advent of the Animated Feature category, Disney/Pixar has won almost every single time.

Anyway, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST does have the distinction of being the first and only animated film to be nominated for Best Picture, an honor it will likely hold forever since animated movies now have their own category and Academy voters may be reluctant to pin it against live action films, considering the backlash they received back in 1992.

Angela is quite right actually; B&TB; is one of the last animated films to be hand draw and hand painted in every single frame from the first to the last. It's credited as the last which in fact is partly true. It is actually the last animated film to be done fully be hand. Other Disney films however only used that system for a part of the production. Pocahontas was in fact the last animated film ever to used the hand drawn and hand painted system.

The jungle book wasn't actually part of the disney renaissance, it's way older. Also, the Little Mermaid, which came before Beauty and the Beast won an oscar for best song as well as best score. But Beauty and the Beast was the first animated movie to be nominated for best movie at the Oscars (and well worth it too.)

Besides the inaccurate Oscar statement, she makes another factual error. She says that "Beauty and the Beast " is "hand drawn and hand colored animation, one of the very last." In fact "The Little Mermaid" was the last Disney film to use the XEROX process to copy the lines to cels, which would then have to be hand painted. By the time "Beauty and the Beast" came around that method was ditched in favor of CAPS, in which the drawings were scanned into a computer then digitally inked and painted.

She moved to America when she was very young and made a conscious effort to lose her accent (if I remember correctly from her interview with Downstage Center) so while her enunciation is pretty American, there's an English quality to her inflection and some of her vowel sounds. Definitely a hybrid of both.

Angela's facts are a litte dodgy. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST was not the first animated film to be nominated for an Oscar. The very first one, SNOW WHITE, was nominated for Best Score, but still received an honorary Oscar. Their second attempt, PINOCCHIO, won two (Score and Song, "When You Wish Upon A Star"), From then on, their subsequent animated films were nominated and sometimes won the Oscar (i.e. DUMBO, BAMBI, CINDERELLA, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, SLEEPING BEAUTY, SWORD IN THE STONE, JUNGLE BOOK).
