Ah Afife i loved her character. I love love she start to be against her in 3th season but in the end she has understand that Hürrem is not like Hatice said. She was loyal to Süleyman. I love that she died by saving Hürrem. One of my most favorite characters. Rest in peace Sabina Toziya. I will never forget at her character Afife.

Afife died as hero, she was manpulated by hatice and Shah and mahidevil but managed to free herself and followed her master, she followed justice, she knew who's right here, she followed hurrem sultana who suffered on the hands of those tyrants and turned to tyrant to defeat them which she did, she's a dragon, true valide sultan. This final interaction does indeed sum up their relationship. It was tempestuous at first because Afife was just accepting the biased word of Hurrem's adversaries about her without finding out Hurrem's side of things. Afife thought she was just doing her job in pleasing the Sultan and going along with popular opinion by supporting Suleiman's then favorite ( later discovered rival dynasty spy ) Firuze . Hurrem of course was understandably not happy that Afife was favoring and protecting the childless slave/ concubine Firuze over her the free legal wife, Empress and mother of 5 of the Sultan's children. Things began to change when Hurrem in a polite but hurt fashion called Afife out about it and made her realize where her true loyalty should be if she was truly to be" just" in " just doing her job". Afife changed towards Hurrem from that point on and came to highly respect her for her deep love and devotion to the Sultan. Great respect and understanding began to flourish between them as seen here.

I like this scene, Hurrem asking forgiveness. I remember in one of the episodes, Afife Hatun saying something about justice and Hurrem telling her that it should apply to her as well. So many injustices to her being an outcast and every body else treating her bad and so she fight for her right and fought she did to survive.. and yes she earned the respect of Afife Hatun and Afife Hatun telling them Firuze that Hurrem is person of her own, her love for the Sultan is so enormous that she had to fight for it..

That very scene where a clearly hurt Hurrem rightly but politely called Afife out on going by biased words of her without hearing her side while also protecting and favoring a lowly childless slave/concubine ( Sultan's favorite or not ) over the Sultan's legal wife/Empress and mother of 5 of his children was actually the very turning point in their relationship. It indeed later showed in the scene where Afife warned Firuze not get big headed over being the then favorite of the Sultan to think she could take Hurrem's place with him because that WASN'T ever going to happen. Many other woman had come and gone over the years...just as she likely would too but Hurrem always remains. Hurrem deeply loved and was devoted to Suleiman over everyone and everything ...and he knew it . Afife told Firuze this is why Hurrem was the one he rightfully and respectfully always had and always would hold the highest over all others....including her.
