But Charles V. pressured the Pope did not let it!!(see 1527 Sack of Rome). Divorce was very common those days. Henry was desperate to leave an heir England would love and adore and he believed that was a son. The irony that he did indeed achieve that it just wasn't the heir he thought it should be. Each is a manifestation of his guilt for sins 1. His abuse and abandonment of Mary when leaving the Catholic Church and shameful treatment of Catherine during miscarriages and infidelity 2. His wrongful execution of Anne, the pressure for her to have a son forcing her into madness and pain, and subconscious neglect of Elizabeth for his reminder of Anne and simply being a girl 3. His high expectations and treatment on Edward for loving the symbol of him and the idea of him vs him as his son, and his pressure on Jane to have a son at all costs so he would not set her aside. He would have if Edward was a girl… we all know that as a fact. Nice touch on him only calling out for Anne vs Jane and Catherine. And Anne’s little signature smirk as if she knows that Elizabeth will bring about a Golden Age. She did gain an broad education for a girl in the Netherlands as a lady for Margaret of Austria where she was called my Petite Boleyn. Then she was maid of honor to Queen Mary of France and later Queen Claude. She was the opposite of the English rose like Jane blond and blue eyed and considered exotic. She was courted by Henry Percy that historians believe she loved but his father disproves. She was the subject of poems to Thomas Wyatt. “I thought you knew.” She looked so heartbroken when she said that. Her face changed so significantly when he mentioned her “crimes” vs her smile when Henry stated how proud of Elizabeth he is. It was the worst crimes she was accused of. Incest with her brother, adultery, witchcraft, treason. Her uncle and dad just let it happen. All of those men accused with little to no evidence executed even her brother George. I always thought she couldn’t have been guilty because of how ridiculous it was to be accused of all of that and the justice system back then. Then mentioned Katherine Howard who suffered the same fate. Jane pulling Edward from going to Henry then mentioning his childhood with Henry VII, the apple doesn’t fall to far from the tree. Remember Henry was the second son and never meant to be king. “He was only a boy… you have killed him!” He thought his legacy was supposed to live though Edward. She looked so broken for the fate befalling her son that she barely got to raise or hold. It must have been terrifying to know what happened to her predecessor and her fate if she failed. Then Catherine mentioning Mary had no children or husband to love and he sent away her only chance, Duke Philip. By the time she married she was in those standards an old women as queen and it became hard to conceive and find a suitor. She suffered a phantom pregnancy. Then “You sent me away once, though I loved you. But I was still your wife in God’s eyes and still am.” Something he denied. I clapped and screamed Tell him! I like to think Mary became Bloody Mary due to the trauma he put her through. Maybe she did consummate her marriage with Arthur, we will never know, but I believe they were happy for while. Virginity sadly was greatly coveted for brides and the double standard for men. Consummation was so important. Sadly though they didn’t realize that bleeding doesn’t even automatically mean virginity loss. Some women have faced injuries that break it or they had a more fragile hymen. They might have falsely thought she was not a virgin due to the lack of blood but it could be due to health reasons like stated above. On the bright side she had Mary the light of her life. She died alone and unloved by her husband separated from her daughter as punishment for not signing that she accepted the divorce and made her beloved daughter a bastard with no claim to the throne. Katherine and Mary weren’t allowed to write to one another. Then all her lost babies. Stillborn, miscarried, died barely a year old. The humiliation of watching him wench with dozens of women and seeing them everyday and not being aloud to say anything or voice her pain. How humiliating to see Henry Fitzroy celebrated and elevated more than Mary ever was. Henry called Mary his pearl once… so sad what happened to their relationship. He even forced Mary to wait on her infant sister. His other wives must have also been terrified. Anne of Cleves in this show even said “if I don’t please the king will he kill me?” I believe that could have been something she said. Germany and Cleves court was very different from England and more restricted for women. They showed in the show for example how Anne didn’t know how to dance. She was not given a formal education and could only understand German which was a serious turn off. It was confirmed through Oliver Cromwell’s letters that Henry hated her even more after the wedding night and left it unconsummated. He was very much disappointed by her appearance even though most likely she was pretty. He even accused her of not being a virgin. Luckily despite the humiliation she was taken care of. And Katherine Pare was supposed to marry Thomas Seymour (who because Henry made her a bastard would sexually abuse Elizabeth when she became Katherine’s ward) it was never fully confirmed but I believe it was true due to research. She lost her first husband. Then she got to marry a man twice her age as a the second wife. Then Catholic rebels dragged him away for refusing to help bring England back to the pope. They threatened her second husband with killing her and the children. The king then believed her husband a traitor and took his estates leaving her penniless and homeless. He was released with no charges and then died to her sadness. She cared for him until his death. She did love him for she was rumored to mourn him greatly and carried his copy of the Bible until her death. She ended up becoming a member of Mary’s household and then the King fell for her. She loved Thomas Jane Seymour’s brother she felt it was her duty to marry Henry as he proposed. Who refuses the king? Katherine must have been been so scared. Katherine Howard was too immature to know what she was getting into. She was a member of the Howard family and cousin of Anne Boleyn via her mother Elizabeth Howard. They are one of the oldest and richest noble families with ties to old royalty. Henry was intrigued by her most likely for her youth which believed to be helpful in having sons. Most likely her family wanted to use her to gain influence like Anne Boleyn. Most likely her, Anne, and Jane were pawns to gain favor and influence. It wasn’t uncommon for fathers to sell off their daughters for favor. Take Mary Boleyn for example. Henry called Katherine his rose without a thorn and jewel of womanhood. She was very frivolous which showed her immaturity and childishness which is normal for her age. She was said to always wear jewels and fine french gowns like her cousin Anne. She was planning to marry Culpepper who called her in his letters my little sweet fool. The affairs were orchestrated supposedly by her ladies in waiting who included George Boleyn’s widow Jane. And people claimed to witness her sexual behavior before she was married. Apparently when arrested she actually did scream in panic and was manhandled to her her to the tower, who could blame her she was a child. She actually practiced placing her head into he execution block! Poor child. Her affairs were confirmed but back then they also maybe could have been via coercion. She was a child and Henry by then was old and open sores that smelled and was severely obese. Worst part is King Francis of France actually wrote a letter stating regretting the lewd and naughty evil behavior of the queen and actually warned him that the lightness of women cannot bend the honor of men. What pigs! While Jane was considered his favorite wife, a combination of the fire and passion of his marriage to Anne and the actors chemistry, truly made us believe in their love. They all loved him and paid the price… Catherine would have been happy with Arthur I think. He was said to have been pleased to look upon the face of his bride and wrote to her parents that he would be a devoted and loving husband. He died from sweating sickness. Since Catherine’s dowry wasn’t paid by her father her situation as a 16 year old widow was confirmed. Henry VII considered marrying her when Elizabeth of York died in childbirth. He married Elizabeth to unite House York and House Lancaster after the war of the roses, which ended with Richard III. It was also to weaken house York. Fun fact Henry VII was a serious mama’s boy with Margaret Beaufort. Unlike his good for nothing second son, he was reportedly faithful and loving towards his wife despite the circumstances of which they married and had no mistresses by historical accounts.Then when Isabella I of Castille died it made Catherine’s value lower as a potential wife. As Castille was inherited by Joanna the Mad her sister and Aragon was smaller and not as wealthy. And since her dowry wasn’t paid she lived practically as a prisoner in a remote estate. She was mistreated and cast aside when he died. But if he lived she wouldn’t have been cursed with Henry, maybe Arthur would have been a much better husband. Poor Catalina. Jane should have lived so she could perhaps glue the family together with Mary and Elizabeth being loved. She did want to reconcile him with his daughters. Anne should have been proclaimed innocent and should have been there to raise her daughter maybe as simply the Marquess of Pembroke and watch her form a legacy. She did get the last laugh. “My Elizabeth shall be queen, and my blood has been well spent!”

@Italok 657 Thank you! I’m a HUGE geek for Tudor England. It’s one of the most complex parts of European History for we know so little yet so much. Most of all Hollywood’s many interpretations. These few scenes truly speak volumes on the general history. Henry VIII truly is one of the most notorious monarchs of England. He changed so much of the country that it influenced today. Divorce of royalty, Church of England which eventually became Anglican Christianity. Leaving the Vatican, I mean the pope and Vatican was so corrupt then. The pope pulled the strings and controlled many countries and their monarchies. Look at the Crusades! Breaking away from him was unheard of! He was practically the Dictator of Western Europe. I’ve always loved analyzing his character especially Hollywood’s portrayals. Who’s your favorite Queen? Mine is Catherine of Aragon because Hollywood does her so dirty. Portrays her as a old saggy woman obsessed with Catholics. She was a devoted mother and a beautiful woman in her youth that faced many tragedies. A daughter of the fierce Isabella of Castille who with a Ferdinand of Aragon united Spain. Anne Boleyn though is probably Hollywood’s favorite to portray because of the little knowledge of her leaves so much to interpret. Manipulative and Ambitious or Proud Witty who did Love Henry. Especially Elizabeth who was her final vengeance. Her story definitely deserves fame. My only favorite thing that tops Tudor England is the analysis of why in history and still today women were considered weaker and lesser than men? I mean what truly started it all? Side note: maybe in heaven all the wives started an I Hate Henry VIII club.

@@via-anghelmagahum2586 I am obsessed with the Tudor period. I think it's a fascinating period in History. As much as I want to respect and see through Henry's tyranny I'm unable to forgive him. It is a fact that women were placed lower than man since ancient times, It break my heart to know that, I really wish things would've gone otherwise. But I shall thank Henry for the changes he provided in England. This we shall thank him for. My favorite wife is Anne boleyn. Since when I was a young kid I've been obsessed with Anne's portrayals which I think is really weird when you're a 12 years old Brazilian boy... but it is a fact that her story and legacy has made her the legend we know today. Unlike Katherine she faced death in the most brave and profound way, I don't think she had any regrets before having her head cut off. Well, I wish I had enough words to describe how much Anne inspired me as a young kid and teenager, but my English is still a work in Progress, I've got to thank the Tudor Dinasty as a whole for inspiring me and giving me authenticity and autonomy to accomplish many wonders. I know Katheryn Howard was just trying to avoid the block but remember when they questioned her and they said if she admitted all her faults she'd be given mercy? Maybe if she would have admitted that and agreed to a divorce, she could have married Thomas Culpeper. Or maybe Henry would have killed them both anyhow? I don't know but K Howard and T Culpeper should have been together...i think they really did love each other and it was such a shame that a wonderful girl like Katheryn was stuck in a situation where her youth and beauty would have been completely wasted on the king.... I hope Thomas and Katheryn are together and very happy

@@italok6577 I don’t think it’s weird at all to be so interested in Anne Boleyn and her portrayals. Anne was soo strong facing her execution. Henry VIII did many changes in England that have shaped the world we know today. Like him many historical figures have good and evil deeds that influence history for better or worse. It’s up to us to see which outweighs the other. Take Andrew Jackson, Christopher Columbus, Isabella of Castille, Frederick of Prussia… Do we love them for the changes they made and their influence on history or does the evil things they did while alive outweigh that?

That is an urban myth. Henry's last words were when his attendant Sir Anthony Denny asked the dying king if he would like to have the archbishop perform the last rites. Henry replied "I will first take a little sleep, and then as I feel myself, I will advise upon the matter." (i.e. "I'm going to take a nap. I'll see how I feel when I wake, and decide then.") When he awoke Henry was no longer capable of speech, but when the archbishop asked him to show by some sign that he trusted in Christ, Henry "did wring his hand mightily." (squeezed his hand hard)

I come back to this video every few weeks, it’s so chilling. I absolutely love how every queen tells him truths that he needs to accept/shocking pills to swallow. Catherine tells him that god is on her side, that she will always be his true wife, and that he doesn’t speak for god and his interpretations of the Bible were wrong (such a slap in the face considering Henry believed in the divine right of kings and was raised to go into the church before his brother’s death and was taught to be a expert in the Christian faith). Anne tells him that she was innocent, and that his judgement was wrong... forcing Henry to truly realize how poorly he treated her and abused the law. Jane tells him that his perfect son will die young and that it will all be his fault, making him come to terms with his poor parenting and obsession for a son. The world is unfair, children die, it doesn’t matter if the woman who gave birth to them was his “true wife”, it doesn’t matter if the child is a boy or girl, sickness will kill whoever it gets its hands on. These scenes make him confront his own wrongdoings and hypocrisy. His actions were not pious, nor lawful, nor for the good of his family, they were for himself and now he can’t hide from his selfish deeds. Thank you so much for posting lol

Henry stripping away her title making her view in a poor light and seen as poor marriage material. Watch her father marry over and over just to be treated very poorly by some of her step mothers, and having her father case her aside for his other wives children. Yet like a true Queen she still tried to pass on the Tudor name and bare a child. She die so tragic if it wasn’t for her father creating the Church of England ,I have a feeling she would of had left a different legacy behind not like her sister Elizabeth, but maybe one that didn’t make her look so cruel.

@@SymphonyBrahms Actually there was. It was queen Matilda, but what Henry was afraid was of what had happened to her. Queen Matilda lost her throne after a civil war and feared that would also happen to Mary. It doesn’t excuse his actions by a long shot but he does have precedent as some evidence.

The unfortunate reality is that he couldn’t just be happy with what he had, because he was raised with the expectations of having sons to expand and continue the House of Tudor. His very existence of being born into this world of royalty already doomed him to never be able to just be happy with what he had. If he had been a commoner, I’m sure his life would have been happier, he probably wouldn’t have ever cared about having girls, he wouldn’t have been so desperate to have to have boys.

Unpopular opinion: Elizabeth and Mary were better off for their father's neglect of them. This brought out their best qualities instead of suppressing them (as Henry undoubtedly would have done). Mary was the picture of poise and grace, very much like her mother. She was as loved by her people as Katherine before her. Despite the hardships throughout her life, she conducted herself like a true queen. Not even Duke Philip or Henry himself could sway her from her convictions. Elizabeth, of course, would go on to be one of England's greatest monarchs. Given the mess she inherited from her father, the Golden Age she brought about is a near miracle. She's not like Henry and that's to her credit. It's so great that both her and England's longest reigning queen are named Elizabeth - it's like a true 'f you' to Henry. Every child needs love and validation from their parents. History will never forgive Henry for his treatment of women. But it was a good thing Mary and Elizabeth could prepare for their future in peace, instead of being mired in all the BS that went on in Henry's court. They proved him so wrong.

That is why Henry VIII had all of his children be rasied away from court. Henry VIII knew how brutal it was and is. Henry VIII was protecting his children by not seeing them or forcing them to be at court. He knew what he was doing. His children were allowed to group up away from all of it until they were needed.
@KL-ki8db9 ай бұрын
@@AnnaBellaChannelWell at least he had good intentions for Edward, the majority of times he sent Mary and Elizabeth away from court was because they “displeased” him in some way and for Mary it was mainly because she wouldn’t back down from her mother’s marriage being legit.

I love this! ❤️ King Henry VIII's three main wives telling him off was brilliant and cathartic! From Catherine of Aragon to Anne Boleyn to Jane Seymour, all of them gave that tyrant the long overdue reality check that he deserved. It would have been great to see the ghosts of his parents Henry VII and Elizabeth of York and the ghost of his older brother Arthur tell him off too. But this scene was still very impressive! Henry Viii may have been a great man of history but he was a terrible husband and a terrible father, a fact that will never be forgiven or forgotten.

Henry VII had more reason to lock his second son away then Henry VIII had to Edward. Henry VII was trying to protect his children from the aftermath of the Wars of the Roses, especially because their claim to the throne was so weak due to him being a maternal Plantagenet rather than a parental (both of the Yorkist and Lancastraian families were descendent from the Royal Plantagenet Line, which ended with Richard II). So many were willing to kill Henry VII and his children simply because of that. Henry VIII can make no such claim. It was simple "luck" that he became king at all: Henry VII had to fight for his right. He may not have been the best king or father, but he did what he had to do to survive a world that wanted him gone. The son truly didn't become the father and his three children (possibly more) paid the price.
