Probably the best people I've seen playing Secret Hitler on KZbin, it's nice to get to hear the thought process and not have everyone shouting or having random conversations going on while the game is taking place. Am disappointed to see that this seems to be the only video of these guys playing Secret Hitler... would very much like to see them do more videos playing this if they like the game! :D

The discussion and the rule read at 21:20 is about making sure everyone know you picked one randomly. The procedure is this: 1. President draws three cards.. 2. President discards one card by selecting it while looking at the face of the cards. 3. The president passes both these at the same time to the chancellor. 4. The chancellor looks a both cards simultaneously and selects one to discard, while looking at the face of the cards. 5. The remaining policy is then passed. The no-talking rule is to avoid covert communication between chancellor and president, but also to speed up the game. The statement about "telegraphing your hand ... using unusual selection procedure" is about how you pick the card. While you are not allowed to talk, a small amount of "unplanned" sighs or losses of poker face are not against the spirit of the game. Once the policy is passed you are going to talk about the process anyway,

28:48 Passing two liberal cards gives information to all the liberals that he probably is not a fascist. 38:41 voting against every goverment in the beginning can be very smart for way to get more information and slowing down the pace of the game.

I have the non-Kickstarter version, and I noticed two major differences in the components for the Kickstarter edition. The rulebook is stapled on the long side instead of the short side, and the envelopes open on the short side instead of the long side. I have to argue that both of those adjustments are improvements over the non-Kickstarter version.

Cori was so obvious all three games. Her tells are so clear. I really hope she never plays poker. XD Ben's play in game 3 to lie about getting a Liberal and a Fascist card in order to set up Cam and Ian was freaking brilliant. My initial reaction was that Ben was the fascist, because his body language suggested that he was definitely lying... until he revealed his lie to pin Ian. Man that was great. And if I may stroke my own ego here, I accurately guessed the Fascists/Hitler within the first few rounds of each game. ;)

55:23 "Cori investigated Cam for no reason" Nah, it's actually a pretty good idea to check the next President. It can go either way to be honest. Makes sense to check somebody suspicious from a previous government, but it also makes sense to check a future government.. In the group I play with, it's usually the next President being checked, unless we get really lucky with the plays and there's a check still left in the mid-late game and somebody's been REAL suspicious and we already have some clues as to who Liberals are.

Lack of knowledge and certainty leads to doubt and fear, which in turn lead to least optimal solutions. This game should be called "Nash equilibrium".
@57thorns5 жыл бұрын
When Graham became president in round four, it would have made sense to vote down the government and allow Kathleen as president with Graham as chancellor. This also shows why it can make a difference how you pick the first governments, they got hemmed in with 4 suspects and the two people who passed the only liberal policy both not eligible for chancellor.
@OmniLiquid5 жыл бұрын
When in round 3 Ben throws out the example of rubbing belly and patting head if you're a liberal and Cori and Ian do it immediately even though it was hypothetical, I thought that was a genius ploy, but it seems none of the players noticed.
@NiteAngyl8 жыл бұрын
Well Serge, that was quite an... interesting move at 1.55.05. If anything, it helps me, and hopefully others, more in understanding the gameplay.
@Tusalu8 жыл бұрын
Ben's crazy move could have worked, but he didn't follow up on it properly. His idea was to obscure the fact that the next government getting 3 fascist cards would be incredibly unlikely. That worked and Ian seized the opportunity to claim he got 3 fascist cards, which Cameron obviously denied. That should tell Ben (and everyone else who believed him) that Ian was likely lying, and if Ian was lying Cameron was telling the truth. He should have this clear to the table. Also Serge claiming that Cameron AND Ian were fascists didn't make a lot of sense, considering those two had just contradicted each other.
@Jim-ee6du3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the entire point of Ben's Gambit was to prove that the next 3 cards were not all fascist, and so if Ian said they were fascist, Ben could then prove to the table that Ian was lying. The issue is that after proving that Ian lied about receiving two fascists, Ben then proceeded to decide that Cam was clearly Hitler and try his best to exonerate Ian. So what then was the point of the gambit other than to muddy the waters for the liberals? Really cool that he tried it anyways.

I've seen this, and I can't remember how it goes, but at 26:10 Graham adamantly telling Cam to show his affiliation and not his role seems like a real fascist-to-Hitler thing to do.
@kilo39894 жыл бұрын
Also, 38:50ish "Voting against every government that you're not a part of is not liberal!" is the exact opposite of the Avalon meta I was raised in. Admittedly a different game, but there the thought was "I know I'm a generic good guy, I don't know about anyone else, therefore I should be on any mission worth voting for."
@kilo39894 жыл бұрын
1:32:55 or so--wait. Ben's dead, Ian's dead, and Cori and Cam both are verified Not Hitler™️... then that means... *gasp*
@Gearhead2216 жыл бұрын
1:06:40 It's actually more likely that at least one liberal policy shows up, considering that it's only an 11% chance that all 3 policies will be fascist ones. This means that there is about an 89% chance that at least one policy is liberal. But these statistics only apply if everyone told the truth, which is highly unlikely. So this may have been all for nothing. I really do have no life.
@KingHeadbang8 жыл бұрын

Regarding the 5-player game, there's no need for thumbs. There are only Hitler and the other fascist, and Hitler knows who the fascist is. So they just open their eyes and identify each other.
@arnaudbouret55628 жыл бұрын
It's terrible how I found myself doubting Cameron in the first game and thinking "guys, you can't always trust someone who plays clearly liberal early, that's also what a good Hitler does to get people to elect them later on" - and then got him pegged when I went back to Cori "clearing" him. Cryaotic had it right on his streams - if you are a fascist, never "clear" Hitler with an inspection, you don't know whether it's going to come back to bite you in the ass in the late game. Serge was almost throwing the second game - 2 fascists v. 1 liberal, you can outright say "Oh, by the way, I'm Hitler, Cori is the other Fascist, and sorry Cam', there's nothing you can do about it, we win this game because you're never getting elected again ever." It's so easy to get used to hiding as a Fascist that few people realize that when they have majority as Fascists, they can literally declare "game over". Got Cori and Ian pegged without too much difficulty third game, but Cori was so deliberately deciding not to mention Ian in the discussion of whom to shoot when everybody else wanted to shoot him I thought she was protecting Hitler, when she was actually Hitler. Which may have been her mistake - as Hitler, had she immediately agreed to kill Ian, Cam' and Ben could have trusted her more, and both of them had reasons to doubt Serge. It doesn't win her the game instantly, that said. Cameron's play was very effective, doling out his information piecemeal as a liberal, but he only gets away with it because nobody jumped on it - he's accusing Ian of lying and refusing to give out information, which is really fishy, and only Ben's play, putting Ian on the spot as the probable liar (thanks Serge for the meltdown :p ), convinced me Cam' was a liberal trying to get more information.
@Flamingbob258 жыл бұрын
I think the problem in game one was the fascists played their hand way too hard early one then were not really defending themselves later, like the people who were talking were mostly the liberals, and Cam, it was sort of like everyone just excepted Ian and Cori were fascists and they excepted they were screwed.

Well what gave Serge away as the fascist was the 100% change in game style. As a liberal as was loud and drew a lot of attention to himself. As a Fascist he was completely silent and only talked when he had to. I had no clue who was the second Fascist in the second game. I have had this happen to me in the werewolf game. When I was a villager I was always trying to get myself voted up to be killed, but when I was the werewolf I kinda went silent and someone picked up on it and killed me quickly.
