Agreed! This Essendon Team and the 2005/2006 west coast eagles team arguably the greatest teams put together and both teams only took home one premiership when they both should have taken home way more in there era

I was there with my boss who was a life-long Essendon fan. Towards the end of the final quarter, being a Carlton supporter I was absolutely elated. But looking at my boss was like being with a grandparent as they suffer a stroke. A most unedifying spectacle and something you feel helpless to fix. But for me, it was one of the most wonderful days in my life. Good ultimately triumphing over evil. He never got to see another Essendon premiership before he died. Tough luck, boss.

The arrogance of those who were around us was palpable. It slowly dissipated, however, as the Lions moved it up a gear and bent Essendon over. It still pleases my heart all these years later.

Hmm, and its interest that years down the track it's revealed that they used an intravenous drip which was used at half time to pump oxygenated blood back into their system. Quite a coincidence that their second half was so full of run. Performance enhancing? The AFL later told then to stop doing it once they found out as it didn't look good on the game.

IV is used for dehydration like drinking water/Gatorade..Much more efficient and extreme but hardly cheating when not illegal. AFl is a game of skill afterall not who is most hydrated. Oxygenated blood is blood doping and banned by the IOC and different!

It was saline that was being pumped through those IV drips, not oxygenated blood. The AFL banned the Lions from using those drips before the 2001 finals series. Essendon were simply beaten by a better team. Can't just keep wheeling out excuses to try and cope with a Grand Final loss

Because Brisbane lion had $500,000 in their salary cap more than Essendon ,that they were paying Alistair Lynch plus Michael Voss, if they didn't have that 500,000 Alastair Lynch and Michael voss wouldn't be playing in the grand final, Brisbane ions had a bigger playing List , you saw what happened when they found out Melbourne Storm was pain players under the table, they took away, two of the Grand final win,
