So the two biggest clubs in Melbourne, Collingwood and Richmond, get merged (which would likely result in 50%+ of their supporter bases getting pissed off and turning their backs on the league), Melbourne and Hawthorn get merged (plausible, though two incredibly popular teams), yet South Melbourne, a team that moved to Sydney to take advantage of an untapped market to stay afloat, is left alone? Interesting...

The Melbourne/Hawthorn merger was based on the one that almost happened but the Collingwood/Richmond one was a bit random tbh, but they are what if scenarios for a reason, they’re meant to be the unlikely happening
