It seemed the umps had money on them in the first half. Every slight touch, combined with a little acting was resulting in a free or 50 for Carlton. Free kick count was 15-5 at one stage but worse part was most were coming in forward 50 for them.

The way St Kilda is set up behind the ball is elite. Their pressure is elite. Their athleticism is elite. Their ball movement was great. There were some beautiful kick passes by Hill, Higgins, Wood, Sinclair. Their small/half forwards were excellent. Ross the Boss is taking Saints to the finals.

IF ... I'm going to make a big call in round six ... THEN ... it's this: underdog Blues are certainties to beat Saints. Still reckon they finish top four. IF ... in early February Anthony Caminiti wasn't among the 830 footballers whose names were on an AFL club list ... THEN ... by mid-April he has incredibly established himself as a key member of a team which has lost just one match, by one kick. His three-match sanction for belting Nathan Murphy leaves a massive hole in the Saints' forward line structure.

Voss's game plan is so ridiculously predictable and so inexcusably slow for the sheer amount of talent he has at his disposal (no pun intended).

The way Carlton play reminds me of Geelong in 2020 & 2021. They were good (better than Carlton) but got predictable. Good teams could then pick them apart, load on the pressure and wait for them to bang it forward to no-one in particular where the opposition would grab it and run it forward and score on the rebound. Hence 2021 pre-liminary final where a star studded Geelong kicked 5 goals. Further, I think Micharl Voss is a control freak. He's got his plan and wants to do it his way. Geelong 2022 changed the way they play: more like Geelong of 2007. Fast organised chaos that every team member is on board with and which is really hard to defend against. Throw in a couple of gun tall forwards, a few dangerous crumbing forwards and a switched on back 6 and you are hard to beat. The later model encourages everyone to trust each other and play for each other. Carlton were so busy controlling the game that they seemed to send a message to each other to stand still, play wide and safe and then have to bang it forward to a well organised defence that by then Carlton had given loads of set up time to. Negative play means less scoring shots per quarter and you wi never win games that way.
