If you bought Kroger in 03, with a margin of safety, it was a lousy investment for 10 yrs. Sometimes a margin of safety is a signal of problems ahead apparently

There is the news of Discovery merging with the AT&T spinoff of HBO somewhere next year, which could explain the move in stock price.

Seconded. Would make me sleep soundly without having to put in my time, which at my current modest holdings is better spent increasing my salary.

What a great video. I'm fairly new to investing so this video showing real examples of what margin of safety actually is, was very educational. Great to see examples pulled in real time from a pool of well known companies...and not just a power point slide like other channels out there. Can we request more of these type of videos? Maybe like once a quarter do the same thing, pull a dozen or so high margin of safety companies form the S&P 500 and refresh/explain how margin of safety can help not only with growth but limit downside losses as a defensive strategy too.

Chuck has already done this for quite some time. You will find the previous incarnations in the channel's video history.

Another great and inspiring video! Even thou' that some of the companies, that you showed up have high amount of debt (60% or higher), they're all good opportunities to dig in deeper to see if the investment fits your strategy, portfolio and long-term vision of where your money should go. Love the content, I'll be joining the Fast Graph community soon and might boast it over a youtube channel one day, since I do share a lot from your investment philosophy. I do recommend one interesting book called - Richer, Wiser, Happier. There are some great insights there also. Keep up the great work, Stoyan

Hi Chuck, you mentioned when talking about Allstate that you would want to know why the drop in earnings is predicted by analysts. Any tips on the best way to drill in and find that information?

Another fantastic video thank you for your time. Do you have a video explaining economic stock cycles related to a margin of safety? I've read that there are relatively predictable cycles, especially in energy, housing and consumer staples but it'd be great to hear your thoughts on how to judge where one might be in a cycle to increase your margin of safety.

Carlos Mota: Thanks for the question. As Mr. Valuation, I am a long-term investor in great companies that can be purchased at sound and attractive valuations. I was originally taught by my mentor never to put a time limit on your investments. Although I am not against options, I have never used them in my own portfolios. It would break my heart to own a great business that I purchased at an attractive price and then have someone call it away from me. regards, Chuck

Great video Chuck! I recently invested in UNUM and ASB (regional bank). I can rest better seeing another value investor validate my investment decision. If you don't mind, please do regional banks. I had to decide between ASB, FNB and PB. PB's financial condition is so good I though it was too good to be true. I went for ASB instead. Would appreciate your views.

Thanks again for your valuable insights. I have a question, if i look for example at Mckesson 3-5year forecast of free cashflow, there is N/A analysts, but somehow graph still shows with some growth numbers, where do these come from?
@FASTgraphs3 жыл бұрын
Karel Prochazka:Thanks for the question. If I understand it correctly, the N/A applies for fiscal year 2021 which ended in March. It is N/A which means not applicable because it is an actual earnings number not an estimate. The future numbers on the other hand, are based on only one analyst. Consequently, you need to consider that. Nevertheless, the growth rate comes from that one analyst’s opinion. Regards, Chuck
@karelprochazka29583 жыл бұрын
I meant forecast 3-5 TL growth tab, there is N/A for the whole period and the presented growth numbers are entirely different than in the "regular estimate" tab.

DISCA went down because some private investor leveraged 5 to 1 blew it on a margin call and Credit Suisse had to unload. I had a feeling that meteoric rise was very unusual.

Great Video, Chuck. I'm surprised you included PRU in this list. Based on your graph, it hasn't traded above the blue line (P/E of 11ish) for about 12 years. Why would you think it has the potential to ever trade at or above the orange line (P/E of 15)? I own PRU but I consider it a dividend stock with little growth potential. Thanks again.
