Shout out to the Igbo people in Nigeria, where the rhythm originated from! Ibo is just the Haitian-Creole way of saying Igbo.

@@enwezormary3687 Actually, Ibo is the Haitian-Creole way of referring to the Igbo people, language and culture that was brought over to Haiti via the slave trade. Just like we use the word Kongo to mean the people and culture. I get that you have your own particulars when it comes to spelling and context. But we're talking about Haitian culture and language here. That being said, let's not get into some stupid debate over language differences.

I am an IGBO and I can relate to these beats. I feel very emotional listening to them. These are almost exactly how our war calls sound. i can't believe they were well preserved. Even their names are IGBO, only pronounced slitely differently. On behalf of my people, I wish to say, we are sorry for what "some" of our ancestors did to their brethren who were taken to Haiti during the Atlantic slave trade. Please forgive us!! We despirately need you guys back home!

Our ancestors couldn't have sold so many millions of us (in the hundreds I think I read somewhere in the distant past) even if they wanted to. It is a lie that being perpetuated to whitewash the crime of the Europeans against humanity called the African slave trade.

Great work bro. Bon travay. You should create some loops of different variation of each instrument, each parts at at least two tempo, and make them available to purchase. If You ever come to NY, I can help you with that. Ayibobo.

Hi Jeff, I have a question about the maman drum. The one you play half way into the video, I noticed the head is quite round. My only drum is a haitian maman, and the head shape is very oval and irregular, not very symmetrical. Bought it from DB in the East Bay, where I live. I'm talking about the shape of it looking down. I realize these are natural drums and never perfect -- they never look as round as a conga or even the kpanlogo drum in the video -- but I wonder, are rounder maman shapes considered to have better sound? Do drummers in Haiti prefer a more circular maman over an oval, mis-shapen one? I can't help but think that the less circular shapes aren't ideal, and I've always been a bit frustrated with mine, though I've never played another maman. Thank you.

Ibo is the Haitian way to pronounce in crerole. The rythmes is in Haiti since 1500. It has been brought to Haiti by nos ancestors Africans What ever son we play is based African Haiti is a black country. We kept the black culture inherited by our african ancestors who were slaves that is why we are so fanm good in music. Haiti is a little Africa right in the middle of the Ameriçan Continent . That means we are so so africans that we might be more african than all of your over there. CAN you BELIEVE THAT There us an history behind this that you need to learn that will help you understand why we are Africans not because we are blacks but also we never can let go the culture If some of your rythsms have been discontinued or completely lost in the Mother Land, come and look for them in Haiti. You're be surprised that it has been preserved.¹ God bless I am crazy about the World history . The best way to traveling around the world without moving and spending money's
