I"ve heard congas from Brazil and Congo but I was always most impressed by the Haitian ones in the context of Vodun. Jeff is a brilliant teacher. Thanks.

@@JeffPierreMusic Hi Jeff, Akili here.... have you done a tutorial on Petwo, Banda, or Maskawon? I really appreciate the ones I've seen. Thanks!

I do get a barravento feel from this. Barravento is a rhythm from Candomble, specifically, the Angola nation. So from that part of Africa too.

Man! you are out of this world. You make it sounds so good. I am learning following your lessons. My conga drum does not sound as nice as yours. Please advise where to buy Haitian conga drums. They have a unique sound and natural feel. I love the ruggedness of the skin. Such a work of art

I've been working on that slap with the hammer stick for years... very slow progress. I love when it's super sharp, almost like the crack of a whip or even a gunshot sound. Not easy, at least for me. Thank you for your videos.

Really nice breakdowns! I'll have to check out more of this drumming now that I know how to listen to it. And thank you for providing this information. I think Haiti gets so overlooked musically. A LOT of Caribbean countries get overlooked, but Haiti's influence on all of the others make it something of a crime that there aren't more sources of info out there. Thanks for sharing your tradition :)

This is great! So many of the conga tutorials are from the Latin Jazz perspective. I got into conga drums because I heard Micky Harts Planet Drum and was immediately drawn to the African rhythms.

Haitian and Dominican is sister cultures. It is just that Haiti is more African centered

@@JessJayEel Yes Ma'am ! This Congo riddim is also very much like "Sinte" from the Nalu people in Guinea, . . . other Kompa and Merengue stylings are are very similar to "Djole" from the Temne people in Guinea . . . I Love how the chicken, rice, and sauce is cooked so similarly, and uniquely in each region. Labodayi is also very close to Makru . . . I Love the Haitian sound and flavour ! (-;
