AFR - DNA Digivolving Paildramon (Japanese Version) Figure Review

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, the Digimon reviews make a comeback!!!
Paildramon, the DNA Digivolved (or Jogress) form of ExVeemon and Stingmon, is definitely one of the most iconic Digimon from the series, Digimon Adventure 02.
Sadly, fans of the character in the US were treated with a triple changing travesty that was an original creation of Bandai of America. Unbeknown to many, fans in Japan received a Paildramon figure that could combine from separate ExVeemon and Stingmon figures.

Which was exactly what the toy was going for, and in my opinion, it pulled it off beautifully! It's not 100% perfect, but it still works out great for what they had to work with. The Japanese toys for 02 are all much better than their American counterparts, and I only wish they would not have been altered so drastically when they were imported

@Royal13Knight In terms of the US figures? That's because Bandai of America actually imported the all the Season 1 figures from Japan. They began making their own toys from the second season onwards. But if we're looking at the Japanese figures only, I can somewhat agree. However, I still think that the Japanese Season 2 and Tamers toys are pretty top notch as well.

I was thinking about the DNA Digivolving toys, and than an idea hit me, what if Bandai Japan actually made two more DNA Digivolving figures. If they did, they would be Silphymon, and Shakkoumon. The transformation gimmick for Silphymon would be Aquilamon forming into the entire body, while Gatomon forms the head, and as for Shakkoumon, it would be Angemon being the base figure with his wings combined into Shakkoumon's wings, while Ankylomon transforms into the Shakkoumon parts to put on into Angemon as armor.

i believe the creators of the toy decided to base themselves on the digivolution sequence of paildramon when they thought about how to combine borht toys. As you may see in the sequence, when both stingmon and exveemon cross together the red ring thingy, you can slightly see for a second that exveemon's body looks like it is laying on stingmon's boy(looking like when takato and guilmon bioemerge with takato being on top of guilmon during the sequence)

And(in my opinion since I watched the „“Xros Wars“ 3 seasons, terms like digiXros and calling the form Xros 2,3,4,5,7 in the original Japanese dub was a lot more enthusiastic ) technically the name “Fusion“ sucks and the dubbing into English ruins the quality especially when the V.A don’t put as much energy as the Seiyuu of Japan

@9neplacednb What? Are you serious? Aside from the arms, the ExVeemon is nearly identical to the show counterpart. Not to mention, you have to take into account the amazing transformation, which they still managed to pull off while making the figure look good in all modes. It's exceedingly impressive, especially when compared to the US Version. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, but I cannot fathom how anyone with any common sense or rational judgment can call this toy 'crap'.

Actar, this is by far one of the best reviews that I've ever seen, and featurnig one of the best Digimon figures of all time. Wonderful work, hope to see another Digimon review soon, maybe one of the Japan Digi Egg Cloths? I've obtained an Armadillomon, comprehensive of the Digmon and Submarimon Armor, and I found the toy an extraordinary representation, so i recommend it on every level ^^ Also, looking forward to find this Paildramon figure SO BADLY. ExVeemon's face appearing on Paildramon don't really count as kibble since Paildramon has blue wings there made from ExVeemon's head in the anime. They were really creative at hiding kibble on thist oy, especially with stingmon's legs as guns.

@Actar576295 They could made the Arms accurate for ExV-mon to make it's arms closer to the Anime and this would give Palidramon the blue Arms here how it'll work: 1: The small arms would be covered by these clip together stuff on the arms making it look buff though it would've made Articulation impossable 2: When Digivolving simply unclip the arm pieces on both arms they would've been on ball Joints 3: evolve it like normal then put the Arm pieces over stingmons arms clip them together.

It basic science. Armored dinosaur + robot wolf = Giant knight with a bad ass sword and a giant cannon. Dragon + Insect = Dragon with insect like armor and twin blasters. I have the American version. I always wandered why they made it a triple changer and not a combiner like the Omnimon figure. It's a DNA digivolving figure so it should be two figures that combine. And this does look MUCH better than the American version... especially that Stingmon. The American version looks like shit.
