Many players fear, freak out and simply miss balls coming at them at net.
This is a quick video outlining how to simply deal with balls coming at you and actually learning to love it.

I HATE being at the net and am a baseline singles player. I play doubles just to get court time and miss/avoid sooo many balls. This REALLY helps and will try it tomorrow. I can win so many more points if I can get to the net and volley just 25% better. Thank you.

You are not alone! If you can get 10% better that would be great! 25% is the long term goal. I suggest that you take the time, if you can, to have someone feed some slow, soft balls at you at net. There is a lot there to work on If you are a baseline I’m making a really good guess that you don’t use the correct grip for the volley. You would start there by making a small modification. The weight set on same side is critical. First will be recognition that the ball is coming your way and a good response will work best. As you know there is not much time so working on the patterning sequence is key. Let me know how you’re doing!

Wow there is a lot of good content here, particularly about the footwork. I was setting up with the racket in the right place, but with the face closed (to take a backhand at my face), but I can see from your demonstration that I'd be much better off in the correct ready position (tip towards ball) and then pushing my body into the right position to volley where my face used to be.

Yes give it a try. If you stand ready for a backhand you will be more prepared for a ball at your body but you will miss many opportunities to move and cut off a forehand volley. In the deuce court it is pretty essential to stand tip forward so you can move to right for center forehand volleys or to poach On the backhand side you can naturally get away with ( and it’s recommended)!to hold the tip off to the left. Then you can go after more balls in the middle How often do you really have to protect yourself? You shouldn’t have many balls coming at your face Often you will also just hold your ground and hit an at the body ball as a backhand. You’ll do the push away but it will be much more subtle, almost not moving left or right at all

Always had racquet the "lazy" way shown. Volleys were trash so explains why. Just shadowed the above movements and seem much better. Will implement on court. thanks
