I love the Fish era, but I must say that, for me, H brought Marillion to an other level of emotion !!! We use to say perfection doesn't exist in this world but it is said without earing some Marillion's stuff !!! Love this band for years and years !!!

In my opinion, one of the only bands that can stand toe-to-toe with Pink Floyd, both on an emotional and musical level.

So do I. I think Marillion are more melodic than PF though.
@Yesquire03 жыл бұрын
Different emotional tone, though. PF is much darker. the emotional expression of pessimism.. This Marillion song, for example, could have been very dark, the end of a long-term relationship, albeit an end that maybe should have come sooner, but overall, the song acccepts what is now in the past, and, in the end, there is hope for a better future.

Very much, I went through a horrible divorce 30 years ago nearly now. More poor ex-wife had PTSD from a road traffic accident. As the years went by her behavior got more bizarre and erratic. Eventually she went off with some else leaving my son and I to rebuild. This song got me through. The foot note was she died a few years later of natural causes very suddenly at the age of 31. A tragic and short life. So this song brings about some dark memories but ones where I gained new strength and self reliance.

The similarities between Marillion and Pink Floyd...Fish was always singing songs about drunks. Waters about his father and the war. Rothery and Gilmour's guitar playing is sublime. But Hogarth changes all that because he has a much better voice than Gilmour and where Floyd could be pretentious, Marillion just exudes emotion without displaying arrogance and they are as comfortable playing tiny venues as they are playing to large audiences. A truly underappreciated band of incredible talent, with a gift for song writing and subject matter and the willingness to inject raw emotion into their music for nothing more than the pure enjoyment of the listener...themselves included. I once saw them at the Manchester Academy, a tiny venue, maybe 100 people crammed in a room standing right by the stage. Before the set they mingled with everyone, Rothery jested that he was in fact his twin brother, which no one believed. A humble genuinly nice bunch of guys and they played for us and enjoyed being there, like it was their pleasure that we asked them to play for us.

What a gem!! I was thrilled when I received the original recording from Amazon: then someone stole my CDs whilst my car was in for service: so, upon getting this IPad I bought the remastered recording from Apple which is a far cry from the original recording. Now I have to find a copy of the original recording…..boohoo. I have no idea how I am going to find a copy of the original recording.

Managed to get to the Christmas show in Birmingham on the 13th December - awesome. Been to see them just about every year since 1987 which probably says more about my age than anything else! Never been disappointed; had a great gig this week, been the first one since I lost my mum this summer & found it really quite an emotional one. Loved Neverland & The Invisible Man, would have appreciated more from Brave but I guess there's only so much you can squeeze into 2 hours! Enjoy
