I mean the thing is, you check the top minerals, you see its 1500, you say, "OK he is not in this base". Why don't you go a bit more south then? If he is not in that base, like you assumed he won't see your probe. And if he is, you just saved yourself from a terrible embarrassment..

the first game is like the episode from "when cheese fails" where the protoss cannon rushed an empty base because he thought the scv came from that spot - but the scv scouted that spot that was cannon rushed and just left into the map again when the probe saw it. and then the protoss was wondering why the terran is not responding to the rush, the probe went into the "main base", there was nothing there and left the game :D
