The map pool change was probably the most impactful thing that happened. Maru might have had an off day or might not be accustomed to the new maps so upsets like this aren't too surprising.

@@fst534 , he has done this in the past, choosing trash builds. His build choices really give it away. If he did his god-mode plays, he would surely destroy this group. But he clearly cannot sustain such high-level play always.. such is the reality of so many top level Terran micro players.

perhaps I do believe solar def maru was an upset i didn't see coming. i also know scarlett's strength is tvz and her weakness is pvz with a neutral in the mirror matchup. def saw her losing to solar well before the 17-1 stat was thrown out there. so sad she was one map away from advancing better luck next time. prob the only current foreigner id root for over my fellow koreans

Yep. Maru throwing some fairly inept builds out today just... confused me. I guess I can kinda understand why he did the 4 rax, considering how well he hid it, but... I really don't think it's been a particularly good build when it's been used... ever? Same with hellbat builds - I don't think I've seen a hellbat build work since 2013, but people keep doing them and it confuses me.

I feel like the stim at 29:50 is what cost Maru the game. Scarlett stalled a lot by running all of those queens away and severely reduced the value Maru got for trading away so much HP on his marines.

he was dead either way, its 2:1 lings vs marines, scarlet could have taken a little damage on the hatchery to wait for the next wave of lings and cleared the marines a little more cost effectively or if they were full, and also if he didnt stim the queens then the lings would have had more time to hatch anyway

!!!Spoilers below warning!!! I watch mostly foreign scene sc2, but today decided to watch a bit of GSL, and imho Maru seems badly out of shape, im surprised no one is saying this. I was expecing to see the fabled GSL Maru, and i definitely didnt. Yes the Creator, Scarlett and Solar played really well, specially Creator, but Maru just made so many mistakes, it was surprising at top level.

Maru has tried that stim all-in versus zerg so many times and it never works. He tried it last season in the finals against Dark. I wonder why he keeps trying it.
