I am an engineer who lived and worked in small scale industrial development in 6 African countries from 1969 to 1998. Unless you can get rid of the gross corruption at all levels progress will not happen. All countries have some corruption but do not "kill the goose that lays the golden egg" Example: Zambia 1970s. Trucks loaded with copper ingots were trucked to the border of now Zimbabwe and sold for cash which largely went into black fat cats pockets. When development organisations suggested Zambia would be better developing its copper goods manufacturing industry the government told the developing organisations to mind their own business! Also in Zambia during colonialism river fishing nets were limited to a mesh size of 4in square (100mm) to allow the small fish to get through and grow. By 1973 nets with mesh sizes of less than 10mm sq were in use. There was great surprise that fish stocks were falling. Much the same situation in Nigeria with its oil industry. In 1999 I moved to Cambodia and worked there for 20 years. Yes there is corruption but it is not of the kind I experienced in Africa. With all its hardships Cambodia is developing. Micro finance has been going on for 50 years. There should be more aid to small scale industrial development. But such programmes are not favored by donors who find they can gather more donations by pushing "child" related agendas. Just look how many projects/organisations have the word "child" in the title then see how many relate to technical/industrial activities.

Exactly! Build factories! Build mines! Africa is rich in minerals! Money DOES NOT HELP! 15 billion we give from the uk every year and nothing changes! Stop sending government aid for say 5 years and then look at that country and see whats happened. It was an experiment to send money in the first place so lets try a different approach. Disaster relief and charity money is different as disasters are far apart and charity money is generally tiny in comparison. Africa has oil, gas, precious metals, diamonds, precious stones, ore, huge amounts if space for fishing and farming and places for hydro electric power and uranium for nuclear reactors which would give power to people living in a home with no power no plumbing and with the money they can be given infrastructure, proper homes and all that could make it a modern country in the next 50 to 100 years

I'm in Africa,a lot of people living under one dollar per day with no employment even if you are elite one. Aids exploit African continent. Only jobs can save Africans especially online work from diaspora

Nobody’s saying you shouldn’t do that, perhaps donate to Yemen but it’s way past time for Africa to take responsibility for Africa. It’s really a shame that there are people like you who want Africa to continue to be spoon fed by wealthy countries that exploit Africa.

Many can read. But that's not the biggest problem. The sheer levels of corruption tend to strangle a lot of the effort that people are trying to make..
