Next India??!!! Can you tell me what all India has achieved in past few decades? Go check the projects that are being constructed in Abuja and Lagos. With a population of 1.4 billion people we should be having a GDP of more than 10-15 trillion USD at present. We do not have proper research and development in India, we don't have patents in high end technologies, manufacturing sector is more or less dead and the infrastructure is poor/sub-standard. Even Metropolitan Cities in India look shabby and ugly. There are not enough bridges, our infrastructure is ageing and the roads are not sufficient to handle the present traffic. On the other hand, poor fishing villages in China like Shanghai are now having GDP way more than entire state of Uttar Pradesh.
@sanchitkumar69453 жыл бұрын
Most of the Chinese Cities were inhabitated by poor fisherman in the past. If you want to see what development looks like then go check theirs. They were having a growth rate of 12-15% from 1992-2008. They have pushed a large section of their population out of poverty and are still able to maintain 7% growth in today's date. From having GDP less than India to 5-6 times at present, they have striked a great balance between research, infrastructure, manufacturing and technology.
@sanchitkumar69453 жыл бұрын
@Vasantha M You really think Nitin Gadkari is up-to-mark? There is a huge scope of improvement. If India's GDP is not strong enough to sustain big infrastructure projects then maybe NDA should try to bring back black money and reduce NPAs.

Funfact, Eko was the name of Lagos under the Benin Empire under Oba Ado, when it served as an important trading hub, and under Oba Akitoye the slave trade was attempted to be abolished, however local merchants refused it and send the King (Oba) into exile to Britain, where he convinced the British authorities to overthrow the pro-slavery monarchy under Akitoye's brother. Once the British, along supporters loyal to Akitoye overthrew his brother, and reinstalled the monarchy - they annexed Eko 10 years later into a new British colony, and the realm of the Oba went back to the Benin homelands, were to this day Edo (Benin) remains a federal state within Nigeria. The British Colony in Eko, named the city after the Portuguese who named it "Lagos" due to the many lagoons and lakes and also because another important coastal trade hub was also called "Lagos" in Portugal already. *I might travel to Nigeria (Lagos & Ife) for work reasons, once this pandemic is over ... can't wait !

Nigerians are too gregarious to be happy in a place like that. In Dubai, people rarely congregate in the new public spaces. My greatest concern with this initiative is the increased inequality that will ensue in the coming years. Inequality in standard of living is already bad in Lagos as it is when compared to other less prosperous states in Nigeria. @@JanJan-pq4im People do that not from a position of hatred but from true patriotism and ambition, would you rather have Nigeria - with all its enormous human & abundant natural resources - compared to Somalia? That would just be plain mediocrity, which in opinion is our biggest problem as a country, we are too intelligent to be where we are today. We can only move higher when we set the bar higher. The UAE & Singapore are ideal examples of what we can become because 30 years ago they were nothing but dry deserts & muddy swamps respectively, they didn't get to where they are today by mediocre thinking or blind allegiance to political parties, but by unity, ambition & innovation. Northern Nigeria can be better that the UAE, Southern Nigeria can be better than Singapore, all we have to is shove mediocrity aside!

@@emmanuelibu3620 I agree with you. I have been very critical of the state of things in Nigeria myself many times. BUT, there are people that can NEVER see anything good in anything that is happening in Nigeria. When something good happens, at least let's commend the thing, and say, yes it's good, but we need more of this, or we need the next one done better. Nothing wrong in setting the bar high....it's a good thing. But some Nigerians want Nigeria to just leap forward, and turn into a country like European and Asian countries overnight. It's not going to happen. Let's walk first, and then we can talk of running. The railway project that is under construction in Nigeria is a prime example. Here comes the Debbie-Downer Nigerians: "Terrible, outdated trains. Go to Asia, go to Europe, go to Dubai, nobody uses these types of trains any longer'.....yadi-yadi-yada! Nigeria of the 60s, 70s, 80s is not the Nigeria we have today. There have been some regressions, true, but a lot have progressed. Do you think it'll be a good idea to stock up ok that Nigerian currency? I mean, after this project is finished, you can expect people to start buying more Nigerian currency so they can invest in Nigeria which in turn raises the value of the curreny and thus, your net worth in USD

How about invest in poverty, medicine, infrastructure, military, human rights, education, sports, factories & manufacturing first. Kmt.
@sweetlemonade69253 жыл бұрын
That's what this project is all about! This city is to attract investors! Infrastructures, manufacturing, factories etc are all projects from the private sector that needs money and investors! Nigeria is already investing into medicine! It has built multiple hospitals and clinics around the country and through the WTO, Nigeria is also trying to make their own vaccines against covid for now and the future! The Nigerian government has sent security for the schools etc, new school facilities are already built in the north and newer ones are being built in the South. And guess what? They all need funding from investors too!
@sweetlemonade69253 жыл бұрын
And the city literally will have a world class hospital and schools. Isn't that not investing into medicine and education?? Did you even watch the video?

@@sweetlemonade6925 Investors?! Every politician in Nigeria is a multimillionaire or even billionaire! So why are we begging for investors when the government should invest themselves! And we already have many cities & states should be tended to instead of wasting money building new cities amongst undeveloped cities!
@sweetlemonade69253 жыл бұрын
@@generalblack5556 Dude you're overreacting. SOME politicians might be millionairs but not all. The Nigerian president is not even among the top 10 richest presidents in Africa! Like I said before, these are PRIVATE projects! Government has no say in it, which means they can't fund it! Investment is what brings a city out of poverty! If you listened to the video, you would've known that currently Lagos isn't attractive for investors around the world! So what's the most logical thing to do? Make it attractive! How? By building a place where business can thrive and where there is stability! After all the investments, you can then move on to the rest of city where the locals live! Dubai did the exact same thing! And did you forget that this project provides a lot of jobs? The government is building infrastructures in Lagos which is benefitting the local people aswell. Lagos and other parts of Nigeria are developing. Slowly, but as more investors come the developement will go faster. Development is not always in the hands of the government, the private sector plays a huge role in developement. Hence why investors are so much needed. Stop acting as if no developement is happening. In terms of developement the current government is doing a good job. But they need to focus of security and put security as their number one priority! What good is it to have a great school building but the kids are always in danger of attacks?

@@sweetlemonade6925 you’re right- the reason America is so successful is because of business friendly laws and privatization of many things. The US definitely lags behind in public transport, but think about it- almost all of the modern medical breakthroughs come from the United States, because it’s funded by private companies who seek a profit. When two companies are competing for market share, the price goes down and quality goes up. The people always win. It’s called capitalism- the only way to bring many people out of poverty.

Fascinating idea to develop Lagos. However, as indicated in the video, there will be increased inequality. What is the difference between Eko Atlantic and rich real estates in Nigeria? How many people can the new development accommodate? How much will be used for the development of the place? These are but a few questions I am thinking as I write this. Moreover, can this same investment be used to build affordable housing for the people in "Makoko" and create jobs? a big YES, YES, YES. The project is set to benefit just a few and ignore many. Just my thoughts on the project!! I love Africa!!!

I think that all the developing countries like Nigeria, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc. need strong population control laws to ensure sustained growth in the future. All these countries have amazing potential but often get bogged down due to excessive population than their lands can handle sustainably. Perhaps China's "one-child" policy could be modified to make "2-child" policy and implemented in these countries so that they are able to develop while ensuring sufficient population for future generations to propagate.

the washed out beach area east of Eko City is dealign with teh same eraosion its been dealiong with since its existance because its clear to see from teh map than even Eko didn't reclaim all the lost land it cold have from its land reclimation; it had fully restored the island it would have been pushed out another mile or more. So in the future if this is successful then the Great Wall of Ekko City should grow substantually longer. to the west because the erosion is evident far east as the map goes. The 2 biggest gripes i have with thiks new world class city that is to be the financial center of West Afrifca, if not all of Africa is; there is no rail station in this plan witch stumps me because a district this big and important should have at least 1 if not 2 rail stations??? thats the first thing i was thinking, the other was why didn't they build (automatiuc trash systems that take trash threw shoots so there are no or few dump trucks) As far as its only benefiting the rich; in the near term if a Nigerian citizen did well in school it shouldn't be to hard to gain employment in the city, though it may be difficult to get their with no rail lines or stations. And With a city that is as under developed as Lagos is, the "great wall" should be expanded east so all the old sections of the city can be torn down and built to a proper modern standards of a developed nation. if its built into the road and rail networks citizens should have no problem accessing it.
