Especially with long distances between places, i wish my country South Africa would invest more in inter-city rail its so much safer than our bus and taxi systems. There is a planned high-speed rail from Pretoria in Gauteng to Polokwane in Limpopo starting in 2025 which is great for linking the economic hub to our poorer, more resource and tourist focussed brethen in the north east

For a decade now, both Kenya and Tanzania have been pushing to build a railway line to Kigali, and across to the DRC. So far no one has succeeded yet.
@user-xsn5ozskwgАй бұрын
@@ianhomerpura8937 A decade isn't long at all for a project of that scope to find its footing; while there are obvious stability issues with the DRC it's still worth taking proposals seriously and evaluating their merits.

As a Kenyan, I would say Tanzania is trying much harder than Kenya. Tanzania has built so much rail connecting more cities than Kenya has over a relatively shorter time. In addition to that, their trains are electrified. Meanwhile, ours are still diesel trains, which is just unfortunate to be honest. I congratulate Tanzania for how much they have done so far. As for Kenya, our government is pretty much useless at this point. We should do better

High-speed rail tunnels between Morocco and Spain make so much sense. Not just train tunnels. Road tunnels, too.
@SeverityOneАй бұрын
Considering the quite insane border fences in Melilla and Ceuta, that's unlikely to happen soon. Also, you don't really want such a long road tunnel. Just load the vehicles on a train, as happens between France and the UK.
@writtwoodson6879Ай бұрын
It is not possible to build a tunnel from Morocco to Spain within reasonable cost/benefit constraints. The English Channel is 180 meters deep. Th Strait of Gibraltar is 1,000 meters deep. That is the difference between possible and not possible.

imagining still building meter gauge in today's day and age. At 225 kph (140 mph), there could be two-night, 20-car sleeping passenger train from evening to the second morning between Egypt and South Africa, both ways, with overnight sleeping car passenger service, evening to morning, by the same train between South Sudan and Zambia, both ways, making stops at rail yards every 200 km, followed by a local passenger train making stops at sidings every 20 km. 20-car fast freight and local freight trains could run after the passenger trains at comparable speeds and transit times. National branch lines could connect along this transcontinental line. It should not, however, need to be developed nor operated by Communist China nor by any other entities from outside Africa.

Funding for Freight Railway, highway or Airport Maybe, but I don’t think China will fund for the high speed passenger railway in the future given that firstly, high speed trains are money losing stuff for donor nations and all international finance are base of profit. Secondly, the need to sell Chinese mobility solution as high speed trains are diminishing as China are making progress in plane making which they can earn more and harder to imitate for African nations.
