Dont come further south then...we are more laid back and reserved in the South island than the North...lol..But the biggest thing here in New Zealand is we dont really judge by colour...for most of us Kiwis its more about personality and compatibility than anything else...well me anyway. Just cause we dont express ourselves as much as Americans, does not mean we are not interested, we are just not overly emotional as American guys are so we wont go chasing someone hard out or tell you every 5 mins how stunning or hot or beautiful you are just so you can feel good about yourself...you should anyway.

Yes we are not the most expressive. 100% accurate. I can see how it would take getting used too. I was shocked on my first visit to America. I found people to be so over the top and sentimental. It was too much for me.. it comes across as fake and insincere (not saying it is.. just due to my culture I percieved it like that). My friend called America a nation of showmen. Rings true to me.. that's the other observation that struck me. Americans are outgoing and loud. We're reserved and laid-back.

Jacque Elias- not just Kiwis but most other people that live outside of America know how to keep their thoughts to themselves. Unlike Americans who think they have to tell everyone every little thought that enters their head. You always hear Americans before you see them.

This is cool. I don't think it's a nz thing in general to compliment people anyway so don't be so surprised on that part. It's not that they don't care to make one, it's that their focus is more towards a persons personality. There aren't any expectations about pursuing potential partners here either as far as i understand. The thing with kiwi's is that if they want to do something they will. If a guy wants to make a move he will, if a girl wants to she will. Although i suspect some girls would rather be pursued but kiwi's are too laid back to care who does it first haha. You call it non expressive, it's just the kiwi attitude actually, it's simply laid back. A little too laid back by the looks of it. I think you're pretty by the way. It's nice to see an African American woman's perspective on kiwi guys.
@thecurrentmoment6 жыл бұрын
"The thing with kiwi's is that if they want to do something they will"" Well said I think this sums up a lot of what I see with other cultures where they "expect" you to behave in a certain way, I think. Kind of like, whatever goes. Very accepting too, in general
@JacqueElias3655 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Your explanation is very helpful.
@r0xdab0x96xo4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. I think a lot of it also revolves around being able to read situations without direction. Body language, social cues, conversation topics etc. Even the way we talk you've gotta read between the lines, we love saying the least possible with the most information behind it. How someones face looks that day, how someone walks the next day. It's more just being aware of others in an analytical sense. Some of the best conversations we have never have words. It can be quite jarring and alarming, tbh I'm pretty sure over 60% of Kiwi's have social anxiety and we've managed to look convincing that we're not. I don't think we much like announcing our thoughts or intentions, but I can gaurentee they are definitely there. We're just slow, laid back go with the flow, what will be will be. We also love chitchat and being helpful, you can approach almost anyone for a favor, question or short conversation etc. Our compliments come in a obscured way just as everything else, but if you can figure out the lingo, we talk a tonne, just not in a way most would expect.
@moonknight40532 жыл бұрын
Pretty similar to hobbits in the lotr movies lol, laid back.. that’s the way to go tho. Not every kiwi is like this but it’s a good way to live
@MsDueces016 жыл бұрын
I personally prefer their laid back attitude and that’s probably why I normally date within my own, they tend to express their love through gestures, they are not very vocal when it comes to expressing their “feelings”. It makes it 10x easier if you grew up in NZ, you kind of have an understanding of how the dating world works unlike a few African American guys that I’ve met, just up front and direct about what’s up, not my cup of tea for the most part but 🤷🏽♀️
@Skybar236 жыл бұрын
kiwis in general are more reserved and laid back. Its just a national characteristic thats been shaped since the beginning and comes from aspects of the first european settlers (pioneers/farmers). If you compare them to aussies-aussies are more outspoken because their national identity is shaped by the 'larikin' personality which again comes from the first european settlers mostly from the Iirish convicts and those who rebelled against the monachy but in comparison to Americans, Aussie would be reserved. Ive experienced this living in Australia to NZ parents.Americans are very outspoken people.

About your specific type, "The must be Christian man" just bear in mind most kiwis don't have religion, so you got a smaller search group. You're right they are not most types of guys that used to much flowery words when dating, sometimes they are a bit emotionless. But I can assure you they are sweet as, with or without religion they are good people, i mean majority as there is still a bad egg same as as other countries. NZ has tall poppy syndrome so we don't really go around inflating people's egos or throw validation at people as often as Americans do. We generally try and be discrete, talking about stuff everyone can relate to etc... I'd say Kiwis are generally quite down to earth and friendly (especially the older generation) but at the same time reserved/isolated and not as social as people from larger cities (They give the impression that they're social upon first meeting but if you know them for longer and look at how many events, gatherings etc... they actually go on, it's generally a lot less than in Asia for example). Makes sense since theres a lot more land per person and u pretty much need a car to get around anywhere. I came from a very large city and it took me a long time to get used to just how isolated everyone is even in Auckland, you kinda need to get used to the quiet atmosphere here, everything is closed by 9pm, very few events etc... Definitely a place for introverts.

Uumm..hey Jacqueline thanks for this Video. Dating kiwis guys I would have to say is a 60/40 give & take. 60% of that is most male kiwi guys prefer sports then attending religion belief's. And the 40% is not sharing they emotions side of things its how we are brought up. There is a saying here in N.Z" I quote, HARDEN UP MATE. Its been branded to those of us who are born here. It will never change unless we as individual make that change now. I have been told from friends from different parts of the country, you kiwi guys are stubborn & Erogant. That's why the alblacks battle on the rugby fields shows no emotion on they performance.. Show no feelings, or emotion @ all. This includes also @ any rugby club's through out N.Z. .. Rugby is like our religion to us kiwi's. As for me & most of my friends believe in both first "GOD" then rugby 2nd.I do believe in ...our heavenly farther.But bare in mind being a kiwi we do have a "BIG HEART" under all that stubbornness. And yes we do love our religion also & our girls with different back rounds or ethnicity..buy the way love your purple top on this video & your great smile..have a blessing day.

One thing to note is not being very expressive in emotions isn't just revolved around "hardening up" and is more of a steryotype than a driving force. It's also heavily to do with the nature of our culture and country. We don't talk. We really don't actually talk much with words, we talk with our body, our soul, our mood and our hands. I mean yeah we talk like any other, but when it comes to personal drive and feelings, we don't talk unless we are asked. I've seen far more emotionally attuned men than I have women, far more emotional sooks flabbering about like hopeless fish ouy of water. It's just, we're a private country. We keep our personal woes to our most trusted friends. If we are asked, sure, but if we are not asked directly, fat chance you're going to get an honest comment out of us that isn't comedy. Pretty sure over 70% of Kiwi's suffer from social anxiety and we just manage to trick ourselves into beliving we are not. Oh and I think you misunderstand the All Blacks... their preformances are flooded with emotion, remember we speak more with our body, hands and soul. We take pride, and a lot of our emotion and passion is concreted into our pride and finess. Tears have been shed on live TV plenty of times by them, but remember, tears don't need to fall to see whats going on in their hearts. We can act stubborn and we can act hard, but it takes a keener eye to read between the lines
@migsbro6 жыл бұрын
Some good points there, some kiwi guys are a bit shy and may feel a bit intimidated by an OTT American with a big personality for sure. Females have had the equal thing going for a long time now so dating is seen a bit like that, the aggressiveness has sort of been taken out of dating. Its a bit of give and take but if you show him solid interest and he is attracted he is sure to want things to go further, once he feels comfortable more of a strong male personality will come out and shine.

I have met couples where he is a Kiwi, and she is AA. In the 19th century, many young single men emigrated from the British isles to New Zealand. They married brown Maori women because they were available, and the next of kin of eligible women did not object. Hence a great many Kiwis are mixed race. Ms Elias, I feel I must put something out there. Between 1960 and 1985, New Zealand maternity wards gradually gave up circumcising newborn boys. Today, Kiwi young men are uncut, their Dads may or may not be, and their grandads are cut. This change came about very quietly, and was never mentioned in newspapers and magazines. It was doctor led, starting in the 1950s, when New Zealand medical schools began teaching that circumcising baby boys was not a good thing to do. New Zealand has crossed a bridge that the USA cannot bring itself to cross. A lot of Kiwi men seem more interested in booze, hobbies and spectator sports. Before the 1990s, New Zealand had one of the lowest rates of college attendance in the first world. About a month ago, New Zealand had a national election. I can assure you that there are no doubts about the honesty of the reported outcomes of that election.

Is it true the New Zealand men love African American women???
@JacqueElias3655 жыл бұрын
I don't know about that as a general statement. I did date a guy briefly and his cousin, a NZ guy, was also dating an African American woman. Coincident? Yes. I don't think there are enough African Americans here for that generality to be true....My husband loves me...I know that!

You being very pretty helps you I'm sure that is international

Phoenix has a marginally smaller population than NZ, not quite a bit larger.

Brem I had looked it up previously but I guess I had wrong info. Thanks for the update.

Correction: Arizona’s population is quite a bit larger than New Zealand’s population. Sorry! Misspoke!

Jacque Williams Ha! Now that I agree with. Slightly warmer than NZ too... slightly.

Telling women how attractive they are every 5 minutes is a bad idea for a man because your putting women on a pedestal so they will realise this & start thinking they are above you..Soon they will loose interest & start looking for a better option 😉

Let's face it dating is a mess in 2022 now that masculinity is considered toxic & men have become more feminine just to fit in & be accepted by women & women have become more masculine,,& promiscuous than ever...

Jaccque, Kiwi guys are not avarage they might not be interested in you @ all. This is a Polynesian county most kiwi are into Polynesian girl,samoan,maori, Tongan or just typical kiwi girl or even chinese and Canadian girl. You can't fit your self in any of those category. Online dating it might suits you.

angie besandre u dont know wat your talking about we are a christian nation you obviously havent heard our national athem its all about god the indigenious people of nz the maori took on christianity as their beliefs not islam not hinduism not buddah or anything else other than jesus,so thats our history im a maori so believe me i know,in my family which is huge we all love christ but there are ppl obviously that dont have a religion like all places so sounds like you really dont know the true essence of nz becoz within my circle of ppl there is heaps of us that love christ so i think your time here and experiences seem to be limited.
