It's nice to have more care guide videos out there. Especially AFT Geckos because theres not a lot of care guides out there on them. While doing research on a reptile, it's nice to have a lot of variety and research opportunities. Thank you 💗

Such a lovely guide full of information, and there aren't enough fat tail guides at all! I understand the similarities to leopard geckos, but there are so many differences and its so important to know the differences so you know hownto best care for them. Recently took in my first fat tail and now im trying (and struggling) to learn everything.

A FTG wouldn’t bask in the wild. They aren’t out in the heat of the sun. Not sure why you have that. Also heat mats are absolutely fine for a gecko but you HAVE to use a thermostat or it will get too hot. They spend most of their time in the ground so they are used to ground heat. This may be why you had issues with impaction. Basking isn’t a natural activity for them.
@emritanimals11 ай бұрын
They absolutely bask in the wild. They are crepuscular so they will come out to bask during dawn and dusk. I highly suggest doing more research and looking into how harmful heat mats can be! I can provide you with sources if you would like
@soosoosooq10 ай бұрын
Yeah the sources I’ve seen all say they are nocturnal, they spend the day within termite mounds, not crepuscular

@@emritanimalsI have used heat pads for my geckos ever since I got my first one which is almost 6 years ago now and never ever had issues with them, I tried a basking light for my AFT but she never used it. And I put paper towel down before I put substrate on top so they can’t get burned, and the heat pads I think only get to 85 degrees and they have other hides to go to if need be.

@@pinkroseskzI think advice has changed over the years regarding heat mats.
