When a guy gives his girlfriend his high school ring its a tremendous and huge commitment for that couple. Like pre-engagement. It's truly serious! And the girl would wear it either on her hand or on a chain around her neck to show she was "taken." Its a great song!

VERY few people know this song was recorded by a British band in London, UK. When I was a kid, I thought it was recorded by a local "Surf" band. Boy, was I wrong, it's a great song no matter where it was recorded..................

First off, Beach Baby is a magnificent forgery of the early 60's hits by the Beach Boys. Very skillfully produced and performed. But the heart of the song is about loss. The singer is recalling the greatest time of his life, and the girl who made a promise she didn't keep. Apparently, he still isn't over it. In any case, it's a great song.

Not a forgery of an individual song, it is just that they sound like the Beach Boys. A lot. I always thought this was a BB hit, until I learned it was First Class. Nontheless, one of the best one hit wonders of the magical 70s. Wondrous. I've got to go now, to Kokomo!!!

Although I do not think the Beach Boys would have employed this orchestration, horns and strings. Just my opinion. But pls note, I am a Pet Sounds fanatic!!!!!!!

@ChuckHackney Perhaps the term "homage" or "tribute" would be a better description, lol, and when I first heard it as a 10 year old I thought it was the BB too.

@tracyyork1428 Agreed. I like tribute or hommage....sounds spot on. We know that they knew they sounded like the Beach Boys, but that was, I think, in some ways, the point. They just took the great sound Brian and company created and added a bit more 70s sound to it. Maybe a bad example, but like Michael Buble is today, paying hommage to the great crooners, especially Sinatra. He even sounds like old blue eyes, sometimes, but that is the point. That was the second Tony Burrows song. We had, Gimme Dat Ding, already. 🙂 I just feel like celebrating a good singer who had hits with quite a few different studio bands. He is still out there by the way. Performing a bit. Mpwa Fay, I do not think there was a hidden meaning to Beach Baby. The words just kind of rolled of the tongue well. And, to anyone familiar with Klaatu, did you hear one part in this song and remember their song. "California Jam?" Alright, who did that first?!?!? Somebody ripped off someone!
